  • My kid's name is Jordan.  ::shrug::

  • It depends on the name. One of my guilty pleasure girl names is Carson.
  • I don't mind some- Jordan, Taylor, etc. Jameson? Atticus? No.

  • Sort of in the same area, dead president names annoy me. (Madison, carter, Jackson, Taylor, Harrison, Kennedy etc)

And there are people in my family with these names. I love them just the same lol

Yeah it was pretty general... I meant like straight up boy names not the unisex names.
Very masculine names on girls annoy me

No one in their right mind would name their kid Hercules lol

  • Yeah that would  really bug me too
  • Names are a very personal choice and everybody has different opinions.  My opinion has actually changed over the last few years; some names that I used to love sound too boring now, and I'm digging some names that I didn't like before.  So, for me at least, I try to avoid blanket statements because I'll probably eat my words at some point!

My cousin's little girl is named Blake and I wouldn't have thought I'd like it, but now I think it's a beautiful name for a beautiful little girl.

  • My son's name is Everett and I was recently lurking on Instagram #babyeverett to see other babies with his name and I saw girls. Never thought my sons name would work on a girl but I guess so. We also have a friend who named their daughter Frankie and now that she's 3 it totally suits her personality.

  • I am not personally a fan.  I agree it is sad that once a great boys name goes "girl" it can't go back.  I don't mind masculine names as nicknames though as in Josephine nn Jo, Charlotte nn Charlie.

I'm a big fan of androgynous names. We seriously considered Quinn or Avery for DD1. I also really love Ryan, Jordan, Carson for girls.

IMO they're better than some of the You-Neek crap that is out there.

  • I agree with the above post! I have a friend who named her son Blue and another friend who named her daughter Strawberry?? At least give them a name they won't have to change later in life to get a good job!
  • I love boy names on girls. With this little one if it's a girl, she will be either Hunter Nicole or Hunter Elizabeth. I think if the middle name is very feminine then the boy name is adorable.

Please don't do this. This is awful.

Lol oh goodness, you have changed my mind random Internet stranger! I'm sure people could have said the same of your children's names.

  • I like boy names for girls not sure about girl names for boys...

I also love to hear people's opinions on baby names, whether they are based on family, traditions, culture, or just yoo-neeq and yolo ideas :)

All I will say is when it comes to names (well... And a lot of things) we are VERY traditional. Hebrew/biblical names and sex appropriate.

    Me too.

Also I love this George carlin skit :

  • I have a "boy name" and have spent my life having people point it out to me, as if it isn't obvious. It's actually a unisex name and I'm far from the only female with this name.

That being said, we are very traditional with our name choices. What other people do is their choice. The only names that I silently judge are the unique ones.

Aren't you cute. You can name your kid what you want but you're doing your potential daughter a disservice with this name. Then again, at least it is spelled right. Go ask the BNB what they think of Hunter for a girl and see what reactions you get. People here will tell you to your face what everyone else will think behind your back. I really do suggest you share your name with the BNB so you can see that I am not the only one who thinks this.
  • I like hunter for a girl, but I am weird and proud of it.

Also, only a fucking asshole would say something about the name of a child already born, so no, no one would say that about my kid's name. Also, they would have fucking horrible taste if they thought E's name is "awful". My whole list for this LO is filled with slightly uncommon, but good, old, names with a lot of history. And they are properly spelled and for the appropriate sex.

I know a guy named Meredith. He was assigned to the girl's dorm in college.

Well, Meredith is traditionally a boy's name. Along with, for example, Ashley, Leslie, Kelly, Lindsey, Cary, Quinn, Avery, Aubrey...I can go on.
  • I also have a somewhat neutral name and one summer at sailing camp they assigned me to the boys dorm. I stayed one night until they fixed the mistake and I acted like it was awesome so people would think I was cool but mostly it was just fart filled. (Boys are gross)

    The counselors didn't notice? ...
  • I like more traditional, gender-specific names. Also not a huge fan of all the unique or trendy names. While I love the name Abigail, I would tend to avoid it simply because it is so popular. Ultimately, it is up to personal preference and culture tends to change things very quickly.
  • Welp. This is interesting. Didn't know names had such an impact like this. Good thing I've been choosing both strong male and female names.

  • @FrecklesInside‌ They did, but we got in late and they just had me stay that night. My yacht club instructor was in with us so it was NBD.

  • I have two legal names (bet you didn't know that was possible) and one is rather masculine.   I've never been mistaken for a boy, though.  I work for a summer camp and every week I go through the list and have to see if anyone was miss-assigned.  Unless it's their first year I pretty much know all the kids and can tell when ones been put in the wrong place.  What's really fun is when we get kids the same week with the same name and one is a boy, one is a girl and I have to remember which is which.  We had two "Soren"s last week and two "Keagan"s.  In both cases one was a girl and one was a boy.  And in both cases the name fit all four kids just fine.

We have two girls who are "Hunter" that come to the camp.  It's becoming a pretty poplar girls name.

This reminds me of the movie Eurotrip and "Mieke."  Anyone?  Anyone?

  • I think boy names for girls can be kind of cute. However, I don't love creatively spelled names. As a teacher, I see a lot of names and its really hard for me to see so many strange spellings. I think the most depressing name I've seen was "Misery", really!
