Baby Names

When in doubt -- imagine the name on a resume!

I had a bit of a "light bulb" moment the other day when I was looking at some resumes for my company. When you're having a difficult time deciding is a name is a "guilty pleasure" or you can actually, honestly picture your child with that name just remember that they need to carry it around with them their entire life. Point in case -- their name on a resume or college application, or ANY application for that matter. There are unfortunate cirrcumstances in which we are judged solely by what we "look" like on paper. I know I would think twice if a resume landed on my desk for "Moon Unit." Just a thought!

Yep.  DH and I did this when trying to narrow down our name choices.  I printed off fake resumes out and spread them out on our dining room table.  We eliminated a name because we didn't think that it looked that great on resume.

But I agree you should consider all facets of a name's use.

  • I think this would apply more for the GP or kr8tv names more than 'childish' names. I've heard many people won't call people for interviews if they can't figure out pronunciation.

I was super surprised when I met an adult Braiden the other day. Every other Braiden/Brayden/Braden I know is a little kid!

Eventually, though they'll be all grown up and the name will be an adult's name, not a kid's name. It's a disorienting phenomenon sometimes.
