Re: FFFC

  • Another FFFC: I was 28 before I saw 'The Goonies.'  My DH thinks this is appalling.  In my defense, I always thought it was going to be scary so I never wanted to see it because I'm scared of scary movies.

I think it's weird when people my age haven't seen "classic" movies like 'Princess Bride', 'Labyrinth' 'A Christmas Story' and 'The Neverending Story.'  Those were all huuuuuuuge in the 80s/90s so I can never figure out between the movie theater, and the million times they're on TV how someone wouldn't have seen them at least once.

We went to the movies a couple times a month as a family when I was growing up, mostly during the winter and it was awesome.  It's one of the biggest things I miss about my Dad.

You're not a bad mom for not feeding fruit snacks (obviously) and I think you know that. When people say things like that though, it seems as though they think a parent who does gives those things is a "bad parent". Or it could make them feel that way. We all have levels of what we think is acceptable whether it be food, tv, toy guns, etc.

oh no. That wasn't my intent, sorry! I don't think people that give fruit snacks are bad parents! I definitely judged this mom for giving her kid so many, and for them being a core part of her "picky" kids Iunch. But fruit snacks in general? Not a bad parent.

  • Another FFFC. This came from finishing the UO from yesterday. I bought DS water guns. The thought of it being a "gun" never crossed my mind. They looked fun for the backyard and I figured why not. We don't own a gun nor will we ever but in our neck of the woods guns are a way of life. Hunting is by far the biggest sport. When he gets old enough to understand we'll teach him what and what not to do around them.

FFFC: I really want to spend $34 on this.

Is that stupid?  I think it would be adorable for NB pics since DH wears a baseball hat all the time.  I like this way more than the crocheted ones.

  • I tried to post this yesterday in UO, but I don't think it worked so I am going to post it here since it better fits FFFC anyways. DH remembered my bday by the end of the day, so he stopped on hiw way home and bought me a pair of Costa sunglasses. I love him to death, but the dude is a horrible gift giver. He bought me a $250 Pandora watch for Christmas and I know for a fact he has never seen me wear a watch. I guess I am just a cheap ass and it's hard for me to stomach spending so much money on these kinds of things. Anyways, here are the sunglasses. They are so NMS, but I do appreciate his effort.

But. When DH was out of work he started doing breakfast with the kids while I made beds, picked out clothes and showered. He introduced apple jacks, captain crunch and cookie crisp to them and now they won't eat anything else. It makes me so mad.

Hannah had crunch berries this morning. She only eats maybe a handful (her hand) and then has real breakfast at daycare. I'm not worried.
My kids have Apple Jacks mixed with Cheerios every morning for snack before going to school for breakfast.

that's me too--I think so many of them are cheesy, not to mention they don't "fit" with us, you know?  I don't want to dress him up in a bowtie or a tie, I hate those Dr. Suess like hats and don't want to turn him into a crocheted nightmare.  I just think this is so cute!

How many do you think will feel bad for you?" DH: "Fine" What a butthead.

    STUCK in a weird quote
I guilted DH into skipping sex last night and this morning. I am just not feeling it. This is pretty much a first for us. I am mostly just mad that he gets to go drink and eat good food with his buddies at the beach for the next four days while I take our kid, new dog and MS self 2.5 hours to his mom's family reunion. Oh, and by the way, he will be 30 minutes from my family whom I get to see 3-5 times per year. Gr. To compensate for my limited fun this weekend, I am taking CJ for hibachi tonight with a friend.

    My confessions:

I stayed up way too late last night catching up on Big Brother when I should have been catching up on sleep.

Even though I still have a decent amount of stuff I need to look at today, I'm not motivated to do any of it.  Work has been a little de-motivating lately and for the first time in my 8 year career, I've actually found myself disliking what I'm doing.  I need a break.

And that is why I'm blowing up the FFFC feed this morning instead of what I should be doing.
Ha! I LOVE Big Brother. I mentioned here once that my big crush (like for real for real) was Drew, the winner from an much earlier season. Now I'm in love with Caleb from this season. I might have to consider re-naming my body pillow from Drew to Caleb. Every night, "good night honey (DH), good night Caleb (to my body pillow)."

  • I don't really love the baby's name, but I agreed to it because DH loved it and I know I can use it as leverage for a third in the future. He also told me I can get a new iPad (DD put a crack in mine).

Plus the kid cried every time we called her Maggie in the first 24hours. She did not cry when called Violet so that made it easier.

quote hell randomly cracked me up.
@hmp1 in-laws know because MIL asked me flat out last visit because of a random conversation she started about double strollers 3 weeks ago. Because it's DH's family, I haven't shared with his brother, SIL, and the extended family. I feel like that's DH's place to do. What's tough is that I was going to just make it a day trip for convenience. Now SIL and MIL have decided that we should all take out my BIL for a nice dinner to celebrate his birthday after the picnic. So, CJ will ride 2 hours out, be at the picnic 11-4, another hour in the car to ILs, drop off dogs, 30-45 minutes in the car to dinner around 6/7, dinner out, and then to ILs to stay over. FIL asked DH if I would be okay but MIL is putting pressure for us to be there and would not understand if I skipped it. My greatest concern is CJ and potential meltdown at supper :/ Any veteran momma tips?
I don't have any tips because this could really go either way. Fingers crossed for really good. My gut says you'll be fine because after that long picnic and being outside hopefully CJ will sleep in the car for the drive to your IL's, stay sleeping for the dog drop off and keep sleeping for the drive to dinner. That could be perfect.

I always rinse. It's better than fishing food out of the bottom of your dishwasher. Gross.
I always completely clean my dishes with a dish sponge before putting in the dishwasher.

Is he a car sleeper? I would feel comfortable that my kids would take an early nap on the 2 hour drive out there and then would fall asleep again after the picnic either driving to the grandparents or to the restaurant. My kids also do well with lots of people to entertain them so they would be good at a large family dinner like that.

I'm sending Anthony to grandma's today to get some sleep. I know it's not confession worthy, but the amount of guilt I'm feeling is. This 2 kid thing is really hard. I always feel like I'm picking one over the other.
It's hard.  I think it's okay to feel a little guilty - it goes to show how much you love DS1.  It will get better:)

I've been feeling really sad that I haven't done bedtime with DS1 since DS2 came.  Even if I try, he only wants dad now:/
Don't feel guilty ladies.  It all evens out over time.  I spent a lot more time with DS2 and DH did toddler duty a ton.  The way I looked at it was that DS1 got me to himself when he was a newborn, so I didn't feel bad about giving that same attention to DS2.

Two kids are an adjustment - just try not to feel guilty about it. :)

  • I half ass rinse my dishes...i don't scrub them, but i make sure all the food is off of them.  It drives DH nuts that I don't "wash" the dishes to put them in the dishwasher.

There's a lot of things I do in regard to the dishwasher that drive him nuts...I don't load the dishwasher the right way, I don't put the forks pointy side down (99% of the time IM THE ONE UNLOADING IT!) I wedge my big cutting board in there....meh, whatever. It all fits when I do it.  It doesn' t need to be a game of Tetris!

@cheenomae thanks, lady. I need to keep it positive...stay positive. :)
With DD I was a wreck thinking about doing things like this. I seriously missed out on so much fun because of fear of a meltdown or not wanting to miss her nap. With DS I let go a little (ha ha, that's really funny, huh?), and I've enjoyed things a bit more because I've learned for the most part things never go as badly as I fear they were going to! Stay positive! :)

@Mroxy0628 - I also don't find Caleb attractive.  And unfortunately I read something online about some derogatory comments he made on social media before he came on the show, so I am not as big of a fan of him as I thought he would be.

Devin is BSC.  I can't wait until they get rid of him.  If he makes it too far into the season, I may stop watching (but not really).

My grandpa's memorial service is tomorrow, 2 hours away, at 2pm. He died in February, and my dad's whole family doesn't get along. My mom said I don't have to go, but I'm going so I can see my cousins, but also because I know this will be the equivalent of an IRL Real World/Big Brother day.
    shit's gonna go down!!

    THT long version:

My dad is an ex-pothead turned super conservative baptist. My uncle is a strict superintendent who still believes in spanking students (though he doesn't, obviously, because illegal). My one aunt is a Mormon whose ass rises and sets the sun in everyone else's eyes (except the other siblings) and my other aunt is a divorcee turned athiest lesbian with 5 grown barefoot, hippie-dippie kids.
This sounds incredible.  If you had more free time, you could totally write a series pilot based on these characters.

Yeah I wouldn't judge any of those things as a snack or a side to a lunch.  But as a meal, I'd judge too.
  • Is it a jerk move for me to not ask the 11 other people in my hallway if they want something when I order Jimmy John's?

I never have cash, so I'm always paying with my debit card.  It never fails that I order and someone sees me eating and says "you should have told me, I would have ordered with you!" and I feel like a jerk.  My old office was in a hallway with only 1 person who worked PT.  It was great.  Now I'm in the student services hub area and can't get away with anything without a running commentary.
