I will admit I lazily pick up what I can but don't go out of my way. My FI worked in restaurants and so he always leaves a large tip and organizes the tables. You are not required to clean up after yourself as a diner, and your child is also a diner. If it was a crazy mess I would deft help out but just a few puffs here and there, no.
So we went to Ruby Tursday for dinner tonight with the babies. They make big messes now and I had just been reading this thread. The waitress was going gaga over the twins, who were really putting on a show tonight clapping and giving raspberries and big smiles. But they were dropping crumbs all over the place and I apologized to her at one point and she was all "don't worry about it, that's why we have brooms!" Then later Haley got hold of an entire roll and threw it into the aisle. I did try to pick that up because I didn't want people to walk on it. The waitress saw me and was like "what are you doing down there, honey? didn't I tell you not to worry about that?" So, I didn't worry about it after that.

To say "it's their job," reminds me of when I worked in retail. People would throw rugs on the floor, take their shoes off (!), walk all over them, take the folded rug off the shelf and walk away. Mind you, 90% of the time, they leave multiple rugs behind on the floor. THAT, was absolutely NOT my job.
Same goes for women's fitting rooms. Fucking slobs.
Sweet jesus, this! I worked at Kohls, and most women would leave 10+ shirts, pants, dresses, etc, in a heap on the floor. Hang your crap back up and put it on the go-back rack. How hard is it??? Also, I had someone SHIT in the fitting room at the Kohl's I worked at. People are disgusting.
As for cleaning up my table, I do my best at getting it cleaned up all the way. But I'm not getting on my hands and knees to get under the table. I wipe down the highchair, scoop big chunks off the floor, etc.

Dude. I worked at Kohl's, too. Three different stores. We had people puke in the fitting rooms, leave dirty diapers under clothes racks, stick used maxi pads to the wall, and to top it all off -- shit in the bathroom, and smear it all over the walls. That happened at least monthly. People also returned used, cum-stained dresses, dirty bras and underwear.
That said, the men's fitting room was never messy. Ever.
I will never work in retail again. People are assholes. Dirty, disgusting assholes.
I put SS b/c I haven't really dealt with this much yet, but I would pick up any dropped items, big pieces of food and leave a nice tip.
This.
We've only been out to eat once where this has even come up. I clean up after my kid unless its the vacuumable stuff. And I also leave a decent tip for a) putting up with a baby, and b) dealing with any mess left behind.

putting up with a baby!? what does this even mean! I am not going to pay extra because i have a baby to "deal with" wtffffffffffffff
CV, I meant that it is an entire person that will be taking up space and more than likely adding to the noise level. One of the last times I took A to a restaurant she started teething in the middle of the meal. It got loud.
Probably not the best verbiage, but having a baby in a party is not always a joyful experience. I try to let servers and whatnot know that I appreciate their accommodation by tipping nicely.
Usually I miss a few but I try to pick them up in a napkin or wipe. Yes it's someone's job to clean but I also feel like it's my responsibility to control the mess if I can.
