First Tri - what can you eat?

My morning sickness isn't bad, but my food aversions are crazy. At the beginning of my first pregnancy all I could eat was cheese, yogurt and fruit. This time cheese sounds good but nauseates me, yogurt only rarely sounds ok and fruit is still good. I just can't come up with anything to eat. Pasta, my usual comfort food, tastes awful. Even a peanut butter sandwich gave me heartburn. So, I need some ideas! What can you/could you eat when nothing else would go down?

Re: First Tri - what can you eat?

  • Hey @CaraH.  No experience to share yet, but I'm sure I'll be looking at this very thread in a couple of weeks.  Have you tried plain rice? or rice cakes?  How about a baked sweet potato?

  • Ok maybe not good but had severe nausea and vomiting and for protein it was chicken mc nuggets ...have no idea why they worked. I have very low Bp,so have to eat protein...which sounded awful...lol oh and bagel with cream cheese...lost 5 lbs but baby grew:)

In my first tri I could eat cheese, eggs, peanut butter, dried fruit, oranges, ice cream, roasted veggies, meat, fries, lumpy oatmeal, bagels, breads, chocolate, & fried chicken. I was also fine with seafood that's not overcooked. My m/s wasn't too bad either as long as I avoided mushy foods that gave me bad nausea (yogurt, bananas, non-crispy veggies, stews, etc.).
  • Eggs were my go-to protein. It was the one thing that tasted good consistently.

It also helped me to eat a few carbs first, then protein.

  • Dry cheerios, crackers, French fries, watermelon, baked potato and bread. Real healthy!! I miss my morning oatmeal. Forget pasta.

I love chicken but its not sitting to well with me. I should try boiled eggs. Hopefully my m/s goes away soon and I can eat normal! Good luck :)

Hmm... these things make me feel better: hard boiled eggs (no soft/runny yolks), apples, bananas (sometimes I put a little peanut butter on), chicken soup or broth w/ or w/o crackers and organic corn tortilla chips.

  • Cereal. Although I don't really think I have morning sickness I have had some issues with stomach pain and inability to eat. I'm eating a lot of cereal!

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm working my way through the list. I've also realized I can eat things at lunch that won't stay down for dinner. (Week 7 has taken me from just food aversions/nausea to all out sickness.) So, I'm branching out a little mid-day, when I can find the energy, and eating buttered toast and a peach with mint tea for every dinner. Peaches taste so good right now. I just told my husband this kid might be half peach!
