Soccer - WWYD?

I have been playing on an indoor soccer team for a few months. It is a lot of fun and a really great workout. Our session is up in a few weeks and we're getting ready to sign up (and pay) for the next one. Obviously DH and I are TTC right now, and I'm debating whether I should play this next session.

There's certainly a chance that I could get my BFP this cycle. If so, at the end of this session I would be right around 13 weeks. I'm pretty active and plan to stay active throughout my pregnancy, but can't decide if soccer is a pregnancy safe sport. If you were in my position, would you play this next session? (FWIW - I would not play past my first trimester, I don't think, once I start getting a decent bump sticking out it seems much less safe in my mind.)

Also, I have an email out to my doc about it, just asking here to see what others might do. And I need to sign up and pay if I'm going to do it before I'll be able to test this cycle, so I unfortunately can't just wait and see.

Re: Soccer - WWYD?

  • Depends on how bad you'll feel if you lose out on the $$$.  I wouldn't be that concerned about playing, more just the idea that you might have bad m/s or fatigue and not WANT to play.  But, you could very possibly have a couple months to go w/ ttc... so if you wouldn't be sad about losing the $$$ i'd do it, but otherwise I'd pass.

  • How competitive is it?

I played pick-up soccer each week till about 36 weeks pg.  Granted, I was slow as heck and took lots of water breaks, but it was ok because it was just for fun.

Unless your doctor vetoes, and as long as you listen to your body, I'd go for it.
