Have you seen the new show "Married at First Sight"? I haven't. But I read about it. Essentially, it is being called a 'social experiment'...two strangers meet for the first time at their wedding. They have a month to decide whether or not they want to stay married.

My UO: If America is cool with making marriage a social experiment but not with legalizing gay marriage, we are FUCKED. UP. Marriage isn't an experiment. And if you think that it makes more sense to allow this bullshit, I don't want to be your friend. Even at all. WHY ISN'T THIS ILLEGAL?! UGH.

Glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed with this show.  Like you I haven't seen it, but I saw the commercials and knew I couldn't watch it.  I feel sad for the people on that show that are ok with this.

My UO: If I'm pregnant in the middle of summer and the A/C at work goes down for a few hours and the room goes up 4 degrees don't you dare complain if I'm not.  I'm not talking normal complaints to get it fixed, I'm talking walking around the department like it's the Gobi desert.  It was only like 76 in here.  I get that isn't comfortable, but get a glass of cold water shut up and do your work!

The first arrest was just made under a TN law that states that "a woman may be prosecuted for assault for the illegal use of a narcotic drug while pregnant, if her child is born addicted to or harmed by the narcotic drug."

Maybe this is just a UO where I live, but I don't think incarceration is the answer here. What these women need is rehabilitation. It's completely fucked up to take illegal narcotics during pregnancy, but it's obviously a sign of major addiction, especially if it's meth. You can't just will yourself to quit a substance like that. And what is the likelihood that a pregnant woman addicted to meth has the resources available to seek treatment for herself? Additionally, I feel like this law may prevent women who need treatment from considering it for fear of arrest.

I agree incarceration is not the answer but something has to be done about this issue. My mom is a NICU nurse and the vast majority if their patients are born to mothers who are taking illegal drugs through the pregnancy. These babies are born addicted to said drugs and have to spend the first days/weeks of their lives going through withdrawal, in addition to any other mental or physical defects they have due to the drug use.

  • Please don't get me wrong, I love that I am pregnant and having a healthy baby, but sometimes the baby movements are creepy as duck to feel on the inside. I love that it means I'm growing a baby. It's just sometimes it's super duper creepy feeling.

I agree. There are times I really don't like the way it feels. And times when I'm annoyed and wish he would just settle down!

The church show is basically where the church members become matchmakers and pick the person they think is the best match. They go through different exercises and the congregation narrows it down to 2 people from which the person then gets to choose who he/ she ends up with. That is a brief overview at least.

    Again. Absolutely disagree.

I worked in a completely free rehabilitation program for women.  We even offered inpatient where you could bring your children. Mandatory rehab is not the answer.  And free services are already being provided.  But the only people who take advantage are the people who want it.  No law is going to make someone no longer an addict.  So why not at least protect the baby from the mother?

Besides, the charge is simple assault. Which is precisely what it is.
I just tried to look this up and I could really only find articles against the law and nothing that just gave facts about it. So maybe you can fill in the blanks for me, are the mothers arrest while still pregnant or after they give birth?

NAS, or neonatal abstinence syndrome, is one of the hot topics the agency I work for is focusing on right now. My first week back from maternity leave with DS I was tasked with mapping rates of babies born addicted in Florida and it brought tears to my eyes. Earlier this year they had me looking at rates in Tennessee and it's pretty bad in some areas. I surely don't know what the best solution is but it is a growing epidemic for sure and very sad.

After birth.  You can't be charged for doing drugs while pregnant unless the baby is born harmed, addicted, or dies. There has to be an actual 'problem' with the baby due to the drug use. And again, if you seek and complete treatment during pregnancy and the baby is still born with issues, you won't be charged (provided that you didn't continue using after your treatment program).

I find it really annoying when people do two things: a) have a strong, vocal political opinion (no prob there) but then don't vote and b) those who do vote only vote for a president. I feel like I need to reality check my entire FB feed with a "hey that's great you feel strongly about xyz social issue, but don't you know that's going to be state-by-state approval?...so...maybe vote in local/congressional/senatorial elections, too?"

    A-flippin-MEN!!

People have no idea just how limited the President is or the concept of federal vs state power. Vote for Pres but dont bother to learn about your Senatorial or Gubernatorial candidates? Idiots. In many ways they more directly impact your life! Ugh!
This is my husband and it makes me mad! I told him last week I needed him to meet me at the dmv so we could change where we vote since we moved. He told me he wasn't worried about bc it's not like we HAVE to vote anyway, this is what I told him. It's important to vote for the ppl you want to impact your life directly and if he still doesn't then he doesn't get the right to bitch about anything he doesn't like. He only votes for Pres, with elections coming up I'm dragging his butt to the voting booth!
  • Because I'm pregnant, people expect me to want to hold and love and talk to every child I come near, and it makes me feel weird. I don't really like other people's kids much. I love my nieces because they're older, but other people's newborns kind of freak me out. They always ask if I want to hold him/her, and I feel obligated to say yes even though I don't really want to.

Totally with you here. I've had three friends have babies since my BFP, and they keep trying to hand them over "Do you want to practice?!?!" No. No, I don't. I've not picked up a single one of them. I thought I was broken.

  • Stupid UO today but my drive to work it made me angry.  If I want to be stupid and speed in the left lane that is my choice, get out of the way.  Going 65 in a 65 mph zone in the left lane is beyond annoying.

on that same note, if I'm going 80 in a 70 on the highway, I'm not moving over because you're impatient. And tailgating me won't make me move.... I'm NOT getting stuck behind a slow ass truck in the right lane, because you want to go faster than I'm going. But I agree the speed limit belongs in the middle lane (if there is one) or right lane unless they're passing. And if I'm passing, you're going to hold your horses until I pass whoever the eff I want.

As long as you are passing the cars to your right if you are going with the flow of every other lane you don't need to be in the left lane.

I often just try to say, I don't know what is going on with the person behind me.  I have seen to many people lose it completely or I think they could be rushing to get to someone who is hurt, the left lane should be there for that.  It kills me MOST when people are just ho humming it along in the left lane and they fail to notice the cop behind them trying to get somewhere.  Be aware of your surroundings people!!!

I think everyone is different, incarceration could scare them enough to stop.  I like the thought of rehab but if they didn't stop due to pregnancy it is good chance they aren't ready to stop and rehab won't work.  One answer will not work for everyone.

  • I don't like hearing how often people have sex. It annoys me. I'm not impressed. You know how often people should have sex in a relationship? How ever often the person who wants it most does (within reason). So if you have two people with very low sex drives, as long as neither one feels unsatisfied, it doesn't matter if they do it once a month. That is fine for them. It isn't a measure of how good your relationship is if you bone every other day or once in a blue moon, as long as there is no resentment building up.
This made me feel better after reading those "We *only* have sex 2 or 3 times a week" posts. LOL. Um. My husband and I didn't even have sex that often before I was pregnant. We both have pretty low sex drives. We make it count when we do, but yeah, it's definitely not that often. We also tend to stay up so late that the minute our heads hit the pillow, we're out for the night.

to clarify, I normally just get pissed off when people tailgate me when I'm going over the speed limit and I'm clearly passing slowpokes. And since I'm in the south now.. it's normally a 2 lane highway. So no I'm not going to slow down just so someone can go 30 over when I'm already going 10-15 over. Sometime this happens when I'm on a 3 lane highway too (example: truck going under speedlimit in right lane, car still going slow passing in middle, and then me passing both of the slowpokes in the left lane) Yes I pay attention to cars around me @bethybeach, and obviously if a cop car is behind me, I move over... but no joe schmo does not deserve to try to run me off the road because I don't know what's going on with them.

I am not sure if this is in response to the Spending Time with eachother post, but if it is, I was not trying to impress anyone. I genuinely feel bad because I know my DH is feeling unsatisfied with the amount we are having sex. But I am sorry if it came off that way.

I'm in the same boat and that's why I said something. I think when people shout out a number it can feel like you don't measure up, but for all you know that's all their relationship has going for it. DH and I have low sex drives, always have, always will. So when I hear 2-3 times a week, I have to remind myself that how often we DTD is just right for us and that no one is unsatisfied and that's all that matters.

ashleyb1114 Yes, it was in response to that post, but I don't typically look at names. It just irked me, as it has in the past, so I brought it over here. No hard feelings.

This appears to be a UO among a lot of my Facebook friends - I feel overwhelmed by all of the animal oriented posts in my news feed.  Save the animals, PSAs about animal treatment or cruelty, articles about why animals are awesome.  I mean, pets are cool and all, but I feel like lately it's popular to take better care of pets than of people.  A friend was going on and on about how her daughter brought a cup of water to a dog that was obviously dehydrated on the street and suffering, and how she basically brought the dog back to life with the water.  And she had an endless stream of replies from people telling her what an angel her daughter was for doing that.  I mean that's great, and it's awesome that she helped the dog, but why are people quick to do things like that for animals but not for other people?  I'm not seeing nearly the volume of posts about child safety as I do about animal safety, or campaigns to feed the homeless, etc.

TL;DR Taking care of animals is awesome, but we should also take care of other people.
100% agree. I have a lot of family who care more about animals than people, and it drives me nuts. I love my pets, but they aren't humans.

  • My current UO, related to waiting to get my tdap- if you're in a waiting room, turn the volume down or off on your child's electronics and video games. Being considerate of others doesn't have to be hard. Just be aware of your surroundings.
People here will listen to music out loud on their cell phones in waiting rooms, grocery stores, etc.
