Pregnancy Brain/OB Office Vent!!! Update: its all good

I am soooooo frustrated (mostly at myself)!!! This is going to be complicated but Ill try to make it simple. I sold my house in Miami in the middle of May and had to move in with family in Orlando for 3 weeks while I waited to close on my new house in Maryland. I made sure my last appt at the Miami OB was a week before I moved since I knew my next appt wouldn't be for a while. I couldn't see an OB for only 1 appt in Orlando so I would have to wait until I got to Maryland. While I was in Orlando, I made an appt for a recommended OB office in Maryland but they told me the first appt they had was July 10th (6 weeks from the phone call and 8 weeks from my last appt). I explained I was pregnant with twins and wanted to get in as soon as possible since I would also have to get in with a perinatologist and I wanted to send my med records ASAP so they would have them. They told me, basically, sorry July 10th was the first opening and don't worry about med records, they can get them on my first appt.

Fast forward to today, 6 weeks after that phone call. I got a call this morning for confirmation of the appt. Suddenly, I realized it was a midwifery office calling me. Midwives won't deliver twins in Maryland (Im automatically considered high risk with multiples). So I waited 6 weeks to cancel the dang appt!!! I know it was my fault because I obviously made an appt at the wrong clinic but when I made the appt, I explained several times that I was pregnant with twins and the MA didn't say anything!

So I called the OB clinic I originally thought I was calling and explained my mistake and that it had now been 8 weeks since my last appt. She was great and luckily had a cancellation this morning so I now have an appt at 2pm. She requested that I get my medical records sent ASAP, before my appt, so the Doc would know what tests he had to order. I called my old OB in Miami and they said I had to fill out a release. Now Im super annoyed because before I moved, I knew they would need a release so I asked both them AND my perinatologist to fill out any forms and sign anything I would need to to get my med records transferred and both offices assured me there was nothing I had to sign and once I had a new OB in Maryland, they would send a request on my behalf. Now they are telling me I need to sign something!!! I hate OB offices!!!! I really wish midwife practices delivered twins because I never had any of these problems with my midwife for my first pregnancy. Now my new doc will probably order additional or repeat tests. Ugh....now Im super stressed!

Short Version: Waited 8 weeks for an appt at the wrong Docs office; mad at myself. Luckily, I got in to correct new OB office on a cancellation but now I'm stressed and running around. I need medical records I tried to prepare for and old OB is making it difficult; mad at them.

  • I worked in the medical field until February so I have a thought...it may or may not work. But anyways, if another doctors office called us requesting records we could usually fulfill the request without a signed release. But if a patient called wanting us to send records they would need to sign a release. have you asked your new OB to fax them a stat request on behalf of you?

  • I'm sorry, that sounds so stressful.  I was just going to suggest what PPs have said.  Maybe they can send it directly without a signature, or they can fax or email it to you to get a signature and you can fax/email it back.

  • I had trouble getting my records transferred between floors of the same building before. It is so frustrating. I can't imagine how it is for you since you are currwenly pregnant with twins. I get that HIPPA is important but so is providing adequate care to pregnant women.
  • Ugh! That is so annoying but I'm glad they were able to get you in today. I would ask if either office can fax or e-mail you the release form so you can fill it out and send it to them before your appt. if you make a note on the form that your appt is today they might rush the records. Good luck with your appt!
  • Thanks all! I still can't believe I did this and made an appointment at the wrong office! I finally got a hold of a nurse at the old OB and they are faxing me the release. I also explained my situation and how I needed the records ASAP and the nurse was actually nice (not usually so at this office!) and said she'd work on it. Now that I'm chill and got all my frustrations out on this board, I figure the worst case is some extra blood and a cervical swab...NBD. Now I just have to get the water turned back on in my house (a plumbers here) so I can take a shower and all will be right with the world! :)

  • FX that you get the paper work sent quickly.  And maybe since its a new ob and its been a while you will get a peek at the twins!  Update if you can on how your appointment went.

  • Ya stinks...

I'm glad you got it worked around. I think you are making a huge change and a little preggo brain is completely understandable
