What to expect at the first ob appt.

I graduated from my RE today and I am really going to miss my weekly U/S's. I am assuming I will not get one right away with the OB.

What can I expect? My appt is Tuesday. Should I bring up a MFM or is this something the OB usually brings up? I am 35 and pregnant with twins. Thanks!

Seems like the u/s frequency varies from doctor to doctor. I did get one at my first OB visit (10 weeks) - but she only does them at 10w, 22w, 34w I believe. I don't have an MFM so don't know anything about it, but if you're thinking you're high-risk, you may as well bring it up if your doctor doesn't. Nothing to lose by asking the question! With my OB, had US at 10.5 weeks, NT scan at 12 weeks, and another US at 13 weeks....so pretty much weekly. We found an OB that understands anxiety with IF and is willing to do US every 2 weeks starting out. I told her I am ready for regular OB schedule but said I can call anytime and make extra appointments if I need to. She made us comfortable getting through this first trimester.

My first appt was with nurse, gave me a pregnancy book, helpful paperwork with tips/list of safe meds etc, information about screening tests.

Second appt (with OB), she wanted to do pap, exam, US, and bunch of stuff. Told her RE did most of that stuff, so we did an US and discussed infertility and expectations.

Love my OB, she gets it!

I went to OB/GYN at about 10 weeks or so, and I got an U/S right away. I got another one for the NT Scan at 12 weeks. I am currently 19 weeks and haven't had one since then, though i am due for one next week for the Anatomy Scan.

I would ask for MFM. Advocate for yourself and insist if you feel you are high risk.

It's a tough transition, be ready to be "normal" ie there are millions of pregnancies and unless something is wrong with you, you're not going to get special treatment. You're going from one of 10% of people that experience a problem to one of 97% of women who deliver healthy babies if that makes sense.

If you are worried, talk to your doctor. Mine was happy to see me more frequently in the beginning but somehow I made it 4 weeks without a visit, and it gradually became more normal. You'll be fine!! Just keep telling yourself that if your doctor isn't worried, you shouldn't worry.

Our dr office always does u/s with twins each appointment.

First appointment was pretty quick, do's and do not's of pregnancy. General advice that if your on the bump message boards (and especially if you are PAIF, you already know). It's an opportunity for you to ask questions, though.

I would ask about policies on vaginal birth/c-section with twins. You can ask about an MFM. I didn't because my OB sees a lot of high risk patients and I'm absolutely lowest risk for a twin pregnancy (di/di, 29 years old, no medical problems or previous losses) so I feel comfortable with his care unless something changes.

Just wanted to update you guys! My first OB appt was yesterday at 9 weeks 1 day. My OB was nice enough to give me a quick peek of the babies and everything looked good. ( I was really spoiled with my weekly detailed U/S's with the RE). I am considered high risk due to my age (35) and being pregnant with twins, so I will also see a MFM. (My OB brought up the MFM before me!) I go to the MFM for my next U/S (NT Scan) at 12 weeks . I go back to my OB Aug 5th. It is going to be weird not going to the Dr so frequently.

Thanks for this thread. I graduated from my RE a couple weeks ago, and then met with the nurse-midwife. I have my first actual OB appointment today and have been wondering what she will do. Already know her as she is my gyn - but DH is coming so he can meet her too.
