Re: Monday Check-In

  • I am doing great! I have one more day of holiday before going back to work, thank goodness! I am hoping to get some organizing and decluttering done.

Our AC went our earlier this year, which was annoying and hot!

  • I feel remarkably good this morning (knocking on wood). Plan is to have a productive afternoon after work!

We lived with an old (once moldy) fridge for two+ years after moving because we could not afford a new one. It got a serious cleaning of course but stains still made me shudder... A lot. Ehhh

  • I'm good. It's really too early to tell how I am because it's 6:30 in the morning. I am tired even though I took a 2 hour nap yesterday. I trained myself to sleep on my side early on, but man my ribs just ache so much.

I actually put dish soap in the dishwasher once. A little goes a long way, let me tell you. I thought I could put just a little in and it would be OK. It wasn't. I had a kitchen full of suds. Called my mom and she told me to run it with vinegar. She got a good laugh out of it anyway and I got some really clean floors.

  • I'm doing fine today. I had a relaxing weekend so I feel well rested and ready to take on the week.

Our A/C last July. July in Texas is ridiculous, by the way. Our unit was still under the service warranty from buying our home and the company the warranty company used was new and worthless. They were going to take 10 days to replace the fan motor. After a few days of frustration and taking time off of work to meet the guy, I voided our warranty and paid someone $300 to get it fixed in an hour. Ugh, I was so angry.

  • I'm stressed today about my busy schedule, but physically feeling good.

My dishwasher caught on fire once. Thank God we were home to put the circuit breaker or the house would have burned down. DO NOT leave your dishwasher running when you aren't home!!! It was the control panel that short circuited.

I'm okay today. Was feeling really off yesterday - crampy and achy and full of acid, and didn't sleep so well last night - so am tired, but at least the acid and achiness has gone down. I'm having trouble investing myself in work today, but I always find Monday mornings tough.

My raves are passing my 1 hour glucose test with flying colors. Just very glad to not have that stress on my shoulders any longer.

What has been the worst major appliance mishap you've had to endure? This one is a long story, so apologies for the length and feel free not to read if you don't have time or feel like it, etc..... When we moved into our new home, my folks gifted us a new fridge. It was a very nice Whirlpool stainless steel, freezer on the bottom fridge and I had high hopes. The 1st one showed up for delivery with a huge dent (the delivery guys insisted it was just the tape - but when the plastic tape/wrap was taken off the dent was there) across both doors (and since it was in the one with the electronics panel, the whole fridge needed to be replaced). A week later the new fridge comes and all seems good until we try the water - there was something wrong with the water line right from the getgo and it was producing cloudy, not very good tasting water - and it wasn't our water line as water worked fine on old fridge - they replaced the filter three times and figured out it had to be something internally and well - yupp, had to order a new fridge. At this point I should maybe have asked for a different model or something but since the 1st fridge worked fine, just had that huge dent, I didin't think we were dealing with a lemon. Third time is the charm they usually say and for at least 10 months that seemed to be the case after they delivered the 3rd fridge - then right before the holidays this past December, the fridge stopped producing ice and then the freezer started to defrost. We had an extended warranty, and the first repairman said it was our compressor and we had to wait a week plus for that part to be ordered. That meant while we had guests over the holidays we to use the old fridge in our garage. Fun, fun.... When the part came the repairman came back (but it was a different one from same company). This guy did a much more thorough check and he said it was not the compressor at all but that we had zero coolant - so it seemed to be a leak. So now, he had to put in a dye into the fridge to determine if the leak was in a place where he could fix or somewhere in a place where he couldn't and we had to wait another week for the dye to work its way through the fridge. When he came back it appeared the leak was in a part that he couldn't get to, so we thought - ugghh, well here we go on a new fridge - but no, the repair place said they had to change another part to put the dye pack in and that it was likely that had been the faulty part (mind you this was not mentioned when he was there to put the dye pack in and of course they'd gotten rid of the old part he'd replaced, so it couldn't be checked, etc...). Net-net - we were told the fridge was now probably fixed and all was well. (Of course we were like, huh - and what do we do if in a week or a month or four months all the coolant (it comes out like a gas) is gone again...etc...as base don what we were told the fridge still had a leak). After a prolonged and very exhausting and stressful fight with Lowe's service and Lowe's corporate and finally bringing in our local store (who was actually great btw) we got them to agree to buy us out for the fridge and let us go into the store and buy a new one. We now own a very nice GE fridge that works better than our Whirlpool one ever did and all I can say is - I will never buy Whirlpool again. It really was a nightmare and raised my stress levels early in this pregnancy (as this fight went from December through late February) beyond where they should have been. Net-net: Lowe's is a good store, but Lowe's warranty service folks - are awful. (BTW: I read a lot of reviews on that fridge while this was going on - as when we bought it was so new there weren't a lot of reviews - and apparently it truly was a dudd, as many of the complaints sounded eerily like ours).

  • How are you doing today? What do you have to rant or rave about? Feeling pretty good. Waiting to get my head looked at AGAIN!
later on is my 24 week check up. :) today is my 2 year anniversary :)
What has been the worst major appliance mishap you've had to endure? 2 years ago in July right before our wedding, our AC died. That was rough.

  • How are you doing today? What do you have to rant or rave about? I'm doing pretty good today so far. The long weekend helped, and looking at the sunshine while sitting in the A/C is nice. I have to rave about my parents. My DH and I got in a car accident about 2 weeks ago, totaling our car (we and the babies are all safe). We were planning on going with just one car until after the babies are born and then seeing where we were financially, but my parents basically gave us their car, for $100/month when we feel that we can afford it, until we reach $2,000 or the car dies (it's a 2002 with 120,000 miles.) I feel so blessed to have two working cars again!

What has been the worst major appliance mishap you've had to endure? Right now it's that the A/C doesn't work, and the cost to fix it is not worth putting into a unit that is already 15 years old. Or last year when our A/C (the same one) stopped working, and we ended up with a working A/C, but a brand new furnace and water heater.

    @supersuz Happy anniversary!

I'm feeling pretty good today, in spite of waking up at 3:30. I've been waking up earlier and earlier every day for the past five days. I might as well stop going to bed at this point.

We had a fridge compressor that shorted out, arced, and caught the fridge on fire. Thankfully we had been out but got home just as the fire started and no major damage was done. We even still have that fridge in our garage.

  • @supersuz - Happy Anniversary!

How are you doing today? What do you have to rant or rave about? Of I am kinda tired of the randoms on our board lately.  It makes my head hurt why people ask the internet random questions about baby names.

What has been the worst major appliance mishap you've had to endure? Well, before I met DH I owned my own townhouse (it was so cute) and may have not had any clue about being a homeowner in respect to actual appliances and stuff.

One day my washing machine stop working mid cycle and my friend Travis helped my rig it up so that it would work.  One problem, it involved water and electricity and I often shocked myself.  I know this makes me sound dumb but I am not I swear!

DH (then BF) was able to fix the damn thing for $30 and still makes fun of me (who knew things like that could be fixed so cheap?)
