Success after IF

Juice?

S is having some pebble-y poo so I feel like she's a little constipated. She probably drinks too much milk, but that's really hard for me to measure between home and daycare. I read that giving her juice is a good option for helping. So far, I haven't given her any. It just seems too sugary and not the most healthy option. So I thought I'd come to my most trusted resources: YOU LADIES!

What should I do? Juice? What kind? Anything I should look for that it should or shouldn't have on the package? Thanks so much!

  • I generally cut juice with water for the first couple years. and I only offer it once a day at lunchtime. Maybe start with something like that and see if it helps at all?

I do lots of "p" fruits (peaches, pears, plums, prunes) first and then resort to juice of we can't get things moving. The pedi has me do juice in this order: prune, pear, apple. I always do a 1:1 ratio for juice and water, but my boys don't always like it. When they refuse juice, I'll do a pear pouch.

One of my boys has a very sensitive tummy and needs lots of fruit everyday for good diapers. I know he gets well above the recommended daily fruit allowance, but the pedi is okay with it as long as his diapers look good.

    They are 21 months.

  • Poor S! Hope her tummy troubles get better!

We don't do juice, but fruit generally helps G when she has those issues: raisins, pureed prunes,  and peaches work great!

  • Thanks ladies! I got raisins, prunes, blueberries, and pears at the grocery. This gal may fill her diaper once these kick in. ;)

    I appreciate your help!

We do juice daily. I get apple and always look for the brand with the least amount of sugar, which is a local store with their brand. I also mix it with water, usually about 3/4 water and 1/4 juice. He gets it at snack time at daycare and when he's home with me all day, I offer it in the morning and with afternoon snack.

  • K gets horribly constipated. We feed her puréed prunes regularly, but when she is having an especially rough patch we add a serving of prune juice in the afternoon. We just mix half prune juice and half water. I give her a 2-3 tsp using the medicine dropper that we use for Tylenol.

  • Blueberries are a "get em goin" favorite over here. We did start with diluted prune juice at one point because his stomach had a hard time switching to baby food and then table food. Good luck - tummy problems are no fun for anyone!

We avoid juice but like the other ladies said, fruits definitely help to get things moving.
