Trouble TTC

Newbie

Hi ya'll!

My apologies for not posting this before I've made other posts/asked questions. I am newish to the board but have been lurking for quite some time now. I love how positive everyone is and how everyone supports one another here!

My DH and I have been trying for about 1.5yrs and my infertility journey started this year. We moved and I started working night shift (I'm an ICU, RN). All was fine and well for about 2 months after I started the new job. Then 5 months went by without AF. Went to my OB and got the typical blood workup and went to see a RE. Everything came back negative. The RE started me on Metformin 1,000mg twice daily. She also thought everything could be due to the change in my circadian rhythm Meanwhile, I was started on a round of P4 to induce AF. That was 2 months ago.

Shortly after that I switched back to days and I still have not had a visit from AF 62 days later. I started round 2 of P4. My OB has given me Femara to start this cycle. I checked with the RE and she is ok with it.  So I guess it's now a waiting game for AF and to see how my body reacts to the Femara.

Anyone have similar issues with working night shift?

Me: 31, PCOS

2nd round of P4 to induce AF. Metformin 2,000mg daily x2months - no change.

Medicated cycle #1 Femara 2.5mg x 5 days + Novarel = BFN.

Benched to redo labs, trying new meds. Starting Clomid next cycle.

Some people just need a high-five...in the face...with a chair.

Re: Newbie

  • Don't have any advice, but welcome

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

  • Welcome! Hope AF comes soon so you can try Femara.

No good ideas about night shift...but, if you're looking for a silver lining, no need to temp on a medicated cycle! :)

  • I too am and ICU RN but I work 2 days, 2 nights then 4 off, but it hasn't interfered with my cycles at all, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a hard time regulating cycles. We're you regular before you went to nights? It might just be as stress thing (from all the change, not necisarily the night shifts).

  • Catlover- not yet but ten DH is going soon and I'm not sure about the HSG yet. Aeml- I guess it could be but I was very stressed out on nights from feeling like *you know what*. Before I went to nights my cycles were 30-45 days but I was O'ing. Now nothing. Has anyone had better luck with the Fermara vs. Clomid? Are the mood swings as bad?

  • Welcome and good luck! I don't have much else to add because I don't work night shift and I've never taken Femera. :-)

  • Welcome! I work night shifts too and it's starting to wear on me after over 10 years.  I am convinced that the stress my body is under is delaying ovulation.

I did femara this cycle.  I experienced no side effects from it.  I had a follow up u/s today and another tomorrow and will probably trigger tomorrow night.  I opted for medicated and monitored IUI.  I don't want to waste time with TI if my insurance will cover something with better outcomes.

  • Welcome to the board!

I spent three weeks in Europe last year and my normal, regular 28 day cycles went totally haywire for a few months afterward.
