Re: S/O Wedding (From UO)

  • Oh, ok.  I was picturing some sort of line dance or choreographed number.  Sounds fun!
  • Loading the player...
  • Oh, and we all walked down the aisle to "Concerning Hobbits."

In fact, all the music was from our favorite fantasy movies and TV shows, another thing we share.

  • I had the flu.  And a fever.  So, that was pretty special.  Our romantic wedding night involved me in every pair of clothing we had, shivering under 4 hotel comforters.  It certainly was magical.

  • Oliver was almost two when we married. I had a special dance with me and him. Also no bouquet or garter toss.

Our wedding had about 60 guests. Out of those 55 were DRUNK and dancing our asses off. Our DJ was all, "that was the easiest time I ever had to get people dancing." LOL

  • I loved our wedding. There was nothing traditional about it. I didn't even wear a dress. We threw a party in a place that we loved with people that we loved. Our ceramony took about two minutes. We were both tipsy. DH's vows were " I just fucking love you. I'll try not to be an asshole."
Best vows ever.  My Grandmother in law would have DIED.
  • I'm new to this board, but reading this thread has brought back lots of memories of our wedding that I would like to share.

DH is a huge Beatles fan, and I like them too (who doesn't). So all of our ceremony music was Beatles. I walked down the aisle to Something. We wrote our own vows. The priest who married us was the same one that had baptized me as a baby. (That was just a weird coincidence.) DH said he (the officiant) sang along to all the Beatles songs as the bridal party came down the aisle.

At the reception we had a projector with a slide show of pictures of us through the years tucked away in a corner. (We have been together since high school and were together 7 years before we got married.)

My mom and I made the favors ourselves. Homemade chocolates (milk, dark, and white) in the shapes of wedding things like wedding bells and hearts. We also designed and assembled the gift boxes for the favors ourselves.

We also had a cappuccino station at the reception, which really only was there because the reception hall had screwed up their quote for our wedding so they threw it in for free. But people said they loved it.

The last song played was Closing Time by Semisonic. You know that one hit wonder from the 90s. Yeah, I'm cheesy. :)

Oh, and of course we second lined because we're from Nola too!

  • Thanks for indulging me.  I don't think about my wedding very often, but it is fun now and again to talk about it and remember it.

One last funny thing that happened: my flower girl took her job very seriously.  She threw hunks of her flower "ball" thing directly at people.  We gave her a ball on a string because she was so little, but she ripped it apart before she got very far. She was barely 2 and we knew it would be a crazy walk down the aisle (if she even made it down the aisle!) and it paid off in great pictures.
  • We had a picture of the wedding party at the ceremony printed on the cake at the reception. It was awesome.

  • We had a super small wedding and got married in the park we went to on our first date which was also where we had our first kiss.

So funny bit about the park, we went out 2 days before to make sure nothing needed to be cleaned up or anything and all was good. Then the day of the ceremony (as I'm walking up the 'aisle' I see a freshly spray painted giant blue penis right where we are supposed to say our vows. Hilarious!

Our Dd1 was 1 when we got married and ran out onto the dance floor during our first dance so all 3 of us danced together. It remains the only time DH and I have ever slow danced.

  • We didn't have a wedding. We paid for our license and paid the minister. The minister married us in his living room, we were both wearing jeans  had no guests. We also didn't tell DHs family we were married for almost a year.
  • We had a Marine wedding with the swords.

I made people demonstrate how they wanted us to kiss instead of the banging on table crap.

We walked down as husband and wife to some popular hiphop song. I can't remember which one.

The alcohol was free, up to $1,000, but not soft drinks. We wanted to get our money's worth ;)

  • At our reception we had a table with wedding pics from all of our family members. They were all in frames that matched the style or time period of the wedding. DH and I still have all of them.

  • One unique thing that happened at my wedding (NOT happy about it) but my siblings in laws put up a stink that their kids needed to be at the wedding and reception because it would be so much fun... I wanted no kids there... And because of the 7 kids no one else danced. The parents let their kids go wild :( still bitter about letting them strong arm me into letting them bring their kids.
  • We took wedding party photos in a neighborhood park. They look pretty awesome with us all lined up on this colorful play structure. We also have some on swings and slides.

  • I love this thread! We had a lot of funny moments. We had an old family friend who was a local mayor marry us. My mom walked down the aisle with her bf and someone yelled out "I didn't know this was a double wedding." Our recession song was I want to break free by queen. Everyone thought it was hilarious. My mil had out cake toppers made in Ireland. The groom was wearing the jersey of his epl team and the bride was wearing a mets jersey. It was awesome. I still have them in my freezer.
  • We got married at the Summer Camp where we had met seven years earlier. My husbands mother was our minister. It was very small 15 people.

At our reception we had gelato instead of cake. (We were going with the camp theme. Everyday at the camp they have ice cream time).
  • I don't post often but loved my wedding.

We had a destination wedding and were lucky enough to have nearly 40 people join us. My DHs best friend from college came from Trinidad which was very special because we hadn't seen him since we graduated.

The day before my wedding my sister in law gave me a charm that had been my husbands mothers. Both his parents had passed away and this was something special my sister in law did at each of her siblings wedding (DH is one of five). I attached the charm to my bouquet.

Since we were getting married out of country neither my grandma or DHs grandparents could join us. We decided to legally married at home at the courthouse and have our grandparents be the only ones there and be our witnesses. Even though we were in a judges chambers, they loved it and felt very honored to sign our marriage certificate.

  • I have a huge family with lots of kids. We wanted to include everyone and hey what kid doesn't love to dance at a party. We didn't however want to pay what it costs per plate for kids who don't usually eat much so we had a pizza party for the kids. Our venue had an area over looking the reception/eating area so we arranged for 2 friends of my sisters to supervise while the kids ate pizza and chips, watched a movie and even had their own cake while the adults enjoyed a nice meal without kids. After the dinner the kids came down to the party and danced their little butts off.
