Do you take your LOs to see fireworks for the 4th?

So, I would really like to take DS1 to see the fireworks for the 4th this year (he is 3 and has never seen "real" fireworks). I don't mind leaving the twins at home (they are in bed at 7:00 and get EXTREMELY cranky if they are kept up late, they're also only 1). We live a few blocks away from the lakefront where our community sets off the fireworks for the holiday. Unfortunately, they don't start until 9:30. DS1 is usually in bed by 8:00. I am debating letting his stay up late and having DH take him over to see the fireworks. What do you do for the 4th if your LOs have early bedtimes?

Well we had Canada Day on Tuesday and we let Hannah stay up to watch fireworks, they started at 10. She LOVED them, she didn't sleep super great that night and was a little cranky the next day. But I totally thought it was worth it. She was completely mesmerized and kept saying "ooooooooo" when pretty ones went off. She is 1.5 years old. I figure the once a year to watch fireworks I'm willing to put up with a cranky kid the next day. Just prepare to take it easy the next day.

No fireworks happening for us. There are none close to us unless we drive into DC which is half hour away and with DS going to bed at 7:30 it will be too late. I think fireworks start at 9. Maybe next year when he is a little older

H slept through them last year but he was only 4 months. We are taking him this year and if he falls asleep no big deal. His bed time varies between 7 and 8 and there have been times he's stayed up much later due to circumstances so I know he'll be fine either way.

mc0202 Hey! Good idea!! I forgot your close by! I love the fireworks they do the weekend before in Brambelton, Ashburn. They are cool we went two years ago. But he was so tiny then it didn't matter.Now with two I would rather put the 2 yr old down and sit outside so we will be missing them this year. Definitely try to see them next year. Wish they started at 8 and not 9.

We are going to stay home this year and take him when is almost 3. He is still not a fan of loud noises yet.

We decided to skip them. He is just so cranky if he goes to bed late that I realized it'd probably be more for us than him.

Thanks for all of the responses, ladies. I think either DH or I will take DS1 over to see the fireworks tomorrow night, and the other will stay home while the twins sleep. I think he will really enjoy them, and he can always sleep late on Saturday, or take a longer nap if he is tired. I hope everyone has a good holiday if you celebrate, regardless of your plans :-)

We are going to skip it this year. J is 18m and between bedtime and the loud noises, I'm not sure it would fly. I say go for it!!

Ds loves fireworks. We go to disneyland every couple of months so ds has been exposed to them a lot.

I am really excited to let him do the sparklers this year. In fact I do need to go buy some fireworks today.

Nah. You can see the Boston fireworks from our neighborhood, but right now it just isn't worth it for us - even for DS who is three and a half. He is usually in bed by 7:45. We'll definitely take them to watch the show in a few years.
