Hi. can my DH join yr country boy party? I blurred out the deer face for all the sensitive people.

My DH should join the country boy/hunter club too!

  • Just by cutting out or blurring the head of dead animals doesn't make those of us who think it's disgusting feel any better. Just sayin.

Fair enough to not want to see the animal (I should know that, took me a bit to get used to the hunting when I met DH). So instead here's a pic in which no animals were involved.

  • Those of you who take issue with the hunting pics, do you eat meat?

    I was wondering this myself.

I'm not a hunter, and DH is not a hunter, but my dad was and his whole side of the family is, so I grew up around it. And I think it's tough to say they don't do it for sport (it's not like they would starve if they didn't hunt) but they absolutely eat all of the meat.

I do have a problem with going to Africa and killing lions just for the fun of it, since usually those people aren't then consuming the lion.  I don't know, maybe that makes me a hypocrite?

Anyway, all the above being said, I couldn't do it, but it doesn't bother me that others do.

  • I didn't grow up around anyone who hunted so it was a whole new world for me when I met DH. He'd love it if I were to start hunting I just don't think I have it in me to do it.
All the meat is eaten and I know we've saved a lot of money by doing so. And as an interesting addition, not only as mentioned by @cdhaslag‌ can meat be donated, but here in NC turkey feathers can be donated to Native American tribes for ceremonial use which I think is pretty cool.

  • @vvg28‌ I completely agree. Thank you so much for that. @awwwpuddin‌ said it right..... We love you!
  • I do not know a single person that takes JOY in killing an animal. DH feels bad about it every time he takes a life. It's not something a person takes lightly.
And I have never had a shitty piece of "trophy venison" but I've never had baby deer, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing.

Uh... Did I say a baby deer?

Is it not common sense that the older a buck, the larger the antlers? We eat primarily does.

No you didn't, but just so you know, rack size can depend a lot on the bloodline, not age. DH gets 2 buck tags, and unlimited doe tags. He fills his buck tags and stops bc we don't need that much meat.
I guess it depends on how many points you want. Older the deer, higher the points.

ETA: I looked back at the photo you posted. That buck is at least 4 years old. Maybe you just haven't had good meat if he doesn't hunt does so you don't realize how gamey old meat is in comparison.
