How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?
Do your food preferences change much with the seasons? Do you get a yen for produce that's in season? Or do you stick to your comfort staples year-round?
I didn't have to get up early this morning, so of course I was wide awake at 4:45! But at least my fasting blood sugar was good. I have a checkup at the OB at 10:00, so I may get in a trip to the gym for some strength training and a nice walk with the dog before that.
I do get excited about seasonal foods, but I suspect that has more to do with advertising (eg, pumpkin spice everything in the fall!) than with any actual change in the weather. Although, there are some things I don't like to eat out of season at all. My husband has been pushing for us to have chili lately, but I keep avoiding it by telling him that the beans are bad for my blood sugar. Truthfully, I just don't want to eat hot beans when it's 90 degrees out at 8:00 pm!
@MrsL2B whoa look at you up early and off to the gym! Impressed
I tend to be a staples girl but I grill all summer and none in the winter. I also have no interest in heavy foods in the summer... Ice cream I can eat year round
Today is a lovely day! It's day TWO of waking up to baby kicks. I'm 25w1d & have an anterior placenta so I just finally started feeling kicks! Wahoooo :-) it's just an amazing feeling that puts me over the moon!
My food preferences change a ton with season... Summer time all I want is garden veggies & grilled food, but come fall & winter I loooove the 'comfort food' casseroles & such.
Doing ok today. Looking forward to the start of a 4 day weekend tomorrow!
I tend to eat relatively in-season as far as produce etc goes but that's mostly because a lot of the out of season selection doesn't taste very good. Love summer for that reason! Everything else is pretty much the same though.
I am good. I woke up a half hour before my alarm with a full bladder, but I needed to get up anyway to pack an extra bag with yoga stuff as I start prenatal yoga stuff today, which I am super excited about. My calves have been cramping pretty bad for a few weeks now, so I am hoping that this will help. Also, my feet finally started to swell. I actually think it's heat related, but not sure. I keep thinking I did something wrong for this to happen, but it's probably related to the cramping. Need to just let that go I guess. No more heels for me now
My food choices change with the season, but I also do cook the same staple comfort food dinners. I am good at cooking with what we have. We tend to buy seasonal fruits and veggies and that shapes my meals. DH got some pork chops, which we don't usually go for with our protein. I made an apple, white peach, triple sec reduction with basil mashed potatoes and a side of peas to go with the chops which I just baked with a taragon sage herb rub. Considering that I have had zero interest in cooking lately, that is pretty good and it only took me 15-20 minutes to whip up. BOOM
@TheOtherJacobsons You are welcome in my kitchen any time! We're having pork chops tonight too...uh, grilled. With some BBQ sauce. And maybe asparagus... If I get fancy.

How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about? Day one of my 4 day weekend. I have been fighting with horrible foot cramps since about 6 this morning. Other than that all is good.
Do your food preferences change much with the seasons? Do you get a yen for produce that's in season? Or do you stick to your comfort staples year-round? I typically only eat salads in the summer. And in tge fall and winter I cant live without crockpot meals.
@TheOtherJacobsons my feet started to swell as of yesterday. Definitely gonna be rocking flippy floppies a lot more now.
Went to get a pedi and even my flip flops don't fit I am hoping that it comes and goes, but I don't know how this works.
I read about your foot cramps. I sm wondering if this is all related to circulation. I get wicked restless legs too. DH started rubbing my feet, which helps a lot with that and I get a foot rub out of it. Score!
Feeling awesome today! Actually not feeling 100%, but today is v-day! So I don't really care how I'm feeling. My baby girl has made it this far and I'm grateful. Also, my hubby is coming home in 10 days from Ireland. We've been apart for 12 weeks, he hasn't seen my bump yet. So exciting!
I eat a ton of produce, and refuse to pay a ridiculous amount for it. So if it's out of season, and therefore super expensive, I don't eat that food too often. Right now is all about the nectarines, peaches, plums, and pluots. A month ago was all about the berries.

I've had such a busy few weeks at work that I'm sitting at my desk playing around on the internet and giving zero fucks. I have a filing due today and it's sitting, ready and signed, in front of me. I'll handle it after lunch. Which reminds me that I left my lunch on the counter at home. Aw, shucks... guess I'll have to treat myself to a restaurant!
My cajun loyalist friends clutch their pearls when I say it, but I can eat gumbo in the summer. Sometimes I just want a good gumbo! But like most PPs, I buy produce in season because that's what's out in the stores.

I am getting off at 3 today from work! woohoo! This week has been great b/c the co worker that I can't stand has been out of the office all week. I am feeling awesome these days besides the occasional minor backache.
S/N: I am a worried tho b/c I got my one hour glucose test results back and did not pass. =( I have to go in for the 3 hour test now...grr...hoping I pass that one!
How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?
Doing pretty well. Had my 26 week appointment today and DH was able to come with me. He amused the OB by being able to ask one of his favorite quotes from an old MTV show (anyone remember that MTV did a True Life show about teen pregnancy about 10 years ago?). After explaining the story to her, he proceeded to ask "How can I keep her from being repregnanted again?". The OB found that pretty funny,- especially since we were discussing post pregnancy birth control options.
Do your food preferences change much with the seasons? Do you get a yen for produce that's in season? Or do you stick to your comfort staples year-round? I tend to eat in season as it tastes better (and can get farm fresh produce for most of the year).

LONG POST: I have really missed you ladies! Waiting to board a plane home after a great weeklong babymoon in the Bay Area. Had terrible cell service where we were staying (only con and not a biggie). I can only imagine what ridiculousness I've missed!
Baby girl has been moving so much on the trip. DH has gotten to feel a lot of movement. We have settled on Anabelle or Annabelle for the first name and are favoring either Rory or Cate for the middle name. Backup name is Ezra Jane. Thoughts?
Rave: Vanilla Cinnamon Cashew Milk and all of the fresh, local foods we found in Marin County and wine country Rant: not getting to glug gallons of California wine. @TheOtherJacobsons I am with you on the calves thing. Almost nightly for me.
GTKY: yes, I yen for seasonal foods but it was cold and foggy one day this week and I really wanted pumpkin spice latte. So predictable, I know. Probably the marketing like @MrsL2B said.
@Saragoeswest I like both Rory and Cate, so I am no help.
Sorry about the calves thing. It pretty much sucks. Glad you had a nice vacation. I always wish that you NorCal travelling bumpies could hang out with me when you visit my hood, but it's not like you're coming to visit me!
@TheOtherJacobsons my feet started to swell as of yesterday. Definitely gonna be rocking flippy floppies a lot more now.
Definitely going to have to rock the flats now. I was disappointed to put my heels away but I didn't want to look like Kim Kardashian with my feet exploding out of my shoes!

I'm feeling pretty good today. This week has kicked my ass, I'm glad it's over. Car wouldn't start Monday, this morning my alarm didn't go off. I'm glad it's "Friday"!
Do your food preferences change much with the seasons? Do you get a yen for produce that's in season? Or do you stick to your comfort staples year-round?
I actually do not crave ice cream at all in the winter. Then like PP said, when it's cooler out I start craving comfort food like soups and chicken & rice. In the summer I want more grilled food and cold salads.
How are you doing today? Do you have anything to rant or rave about?
Not feeling "amazing" but certainly better than I have been feeling the past couple of days. The heat and humidity was certainly in full effect here in Maine the past couple of days, and sleeping has been tough. Not to mention that I've been having trouble getting comfortable in the first place... but I finally decided to sleep in the guest bedroom last night (on a very firm IKEA mattress -- ours in our master bedroom is on the older side and quite deformed from the two of us sleeping in our spots) and had a bit of a better night of sleep. On top of that, however, the Charley Horse calf cramp that I got, oh, four days ago in my right calf is STILL resulting in a sore calf muscle. It hurts SO much to walk!!! I feel like my calf split in half! And my varicose veins (I've had them most of my adult life -- thanks, mom!) seem to be getting worse (they are in the same leg as my calf cramp). I have one support stocking on today and am hoping that it helps!

My food preferences DEFINITELY change throughout the seasons. As some PPs mentioned, I gravitate towards heavier meals in the colder months and lighter, cooling foods in the warmer months. I also take advantage of as much in-season foods as I can. There are so many local farms by us that it almost takes more effort to NOT favor in-season!
@TheOtherJacobsons I was definitely thinking about you! I should have messaged you. We stayed in Mill Valley and took day trips up the coast and into wine country. I thought we'd go into SF more but we really only hung out there the first day.
