Steroid injection

I'm 24 weeks and 4 days. I had a test done to detect the protein in my cervix which came back positive which means that I will go into labour very soon or soon more than likely this month. I had my first steroid injection yesterday morning and then today I had my second lot of steroid injection. I haven't really been told much about the injection. Anyone else had to have steroid injections at 24 weeks?? Really need someone to talk to x

I'm sorry you're going through this. The steroid injections are to help the baby's lung development. Have you talked to your doctor about specific questions? The high risk board might give you some more insight as well. Good luck and I hope your little one stays put.

I know it's a scary time but definitely don't be afraid to ask questions. Ask multiple times if you still don't understand. I know sometimes it's hard to think things through when you are given scary news. My sister had steroid injections when she went into preterm labor and it was to help the development of the baby's lungs. I hope your baby stays put for awhile longer. Hang in there.

Thank you all for your lovely words. The doctors are all very busy and try to rush you and don't give you time to think of questions to ask but it's okay because I'm having someone from the neonatal team come to see me soon hopefully so they will be able tell me a lot more information because they specialise more and I assume are more understanding and I'm sure they will give me time to ask questions xxx

Good luck! Definitely get answers to your questions, even if you have to be a little pushy. You have the right to know what's going on and what to expect. I hope the neonatal team can address all your concerns. I hope you get some good news!

I had them, 2 weeks ago at 24w 3d. If your are to deliver the steroids just help the baby's lungs produce surfactant quicker so they can breathe in the the outside world. Just follow Dr's orders. I've been on bedrest the last 2 weeks and baby is staying put.

I have a friend who had her FFN test come back positive and she did not deliver for like 8 more weeks.

I received the first steroid shot at 24w 1d with my son. He ended up being born at 28w (never had a FFN but other complications) and came out screaming! I believe 100% that they do help if you do end up having a preemie.
