Yeah its different in the NW for sure. I remember those "No Minors" signs everywhere in Portland, and lounge areas, and whatnot. There is none of that in Colorado. Alcohol and children very much co-exist!

I think we need a better definition of "bar".

for us, bar is anywhere where there is hard liquor, behind a "bar top". if you want minors in the area, there needs to be a physical separation... like... a half-wall or something works..or even some rails. it just needs to be separated, and minors can not go to the bar top. if there are booths/tables nearby, still no minors, until there is some form of separation.

at least i think. i just made that up.

edit: i think beer counts, too. not just hard liquor.

IMO a "bar" is defined as: a place where one consumes alcohol. No foods are served, ever. It's dark, dank, no windows, and children are deft not supposed to be in there, ever.

then there are no bars at all in WA. we have this weird law that if you serve alcohol, you must serve food "from the kitchen". (ie more than just peanuts).
