Baby names

Hi ladies, I was just curious to see what baby names you all have in mind for your little bun in the oven? I am still having trouble deciding on a girl and boy name. My husband likes Grace for a girl and I like Sophie or Rachel. For a boy, we are thinking Micah for now.

Re: Baby names

  • Tayden Laurel for a girl and Brayden Nathaniel for a boy I like the names to rhyme
  • Loading the player...
  • We always said our first son will be named after FIL. Middle name TBD. For a girl, we haven't discussed. I really love the name Kenna though - and she could be named after FIL then too (his name is Ken).

    BFP #2 (6.27.14) ~ EDD 3.7.15

  • We've discussed it, but not to any extent. Just in passing. I think it will be a long time before we narrow down names.

  • We're still trying to come up with a belly/ in utero nickname! He likes Bean; I'm undecided. We've had a couple of pre-pregnancy conversations about real names, but nothing is decided.
  • We have our boy name pretty much set in stone... and a few girl's names being tossed around- DH just suggest Finley the other night.
My two year old's name is Harper; so we need something that flows well with that.

  • We had a boy and a girl name picked before we even got married in 2011. Briana Elise was used for our DD, and Gabriel Joseph was our boy name, (Joseph is DH's MN), but I'm not sure that I love the name anymore. So I am thinking about more boy names (DH and I both- and seemingly everyone else- think this baby is a boy), but if it does happen to be a girl I like Natalie Grace. But since DH doesn't really like Natalie, my next suggestion was Olivia Grace.

    This.
  • Haven't even started talking about names yet. We will start narrowing down when we get into 2nd tri

  • I've always liked the name Ryan for a boy and maybe Jordan for a girl.

But I'm not there yet with the baby names. I probably won't get serious about choosing a name

until I find out the sex of the baby.

  • Signe May (like Sydney but with a g) is for a girl. It's my husbands great grandmas name. She was from Sweden. May is my middle name and I'm the 9th generation with it.

As for boy name we aren't for sure. He wants Tycen Rhen and call him Tyce for short. Rhen is his brother that passed away very young. But we are still way too early to be fully thinking about the names. Only 5 weeks so my mind could change any time.
  • With our first we went through lists and lists of names. We love the name for our daughter but weren't stoked about any of the boy names we had. I guess we'll be starting from scratch, but I won't be thinking seriously about any names until we know the sex.

  • DD's name is Claire Elise.

we're pretty much 99% set on these names:
    Trevor Vincent/Emily Renee

I really like Trevor, but I don't know if I'm "in love" with it. I've been searching high and low for another name, and I can't find one that comes close to it. We have a thing with France/French names, but we can't agree on another name.

Yup. I lurk the bnb but that's because I love names in general and hate silly names like OP selections.

Edit: quote box fail. Damn mobile.

  • We haven't really started thinking about names yet. Though last time we were in the OR still discussing names after DS was born. We had my Dr., the nurse and the tech going over our short list and giving opinions. He was named about 2 mins before rolling out the door back to my room.

  • I always have a list tucked away in the back of my mind, but I would like to see the baby before officially naming him/her.  The problem is my husband. He's a lover of Roman history and always has a few gems that he throws at me.. "Hey, what about Germanicus...". Sure, babe. I'll think about it.

DD is named after my Great Grandma, so we'll probably continue the family thing.  A boy will for sure have the middle name James after my FIL. I'm throwing around Annalise for a girl since it combines the names of my other GGs (Anna, Nell and Louisa).

@janda426 Evelyn is one of my favorite names but I'm thinking Eva has surpassed it on my list.

@Beary+Ghastly & @antsangel1118 My name is Elise and you both spelled it the most awesome way too  ;;)  I've met a lot of people named Elise (including one guy) but they all usually spell it differently. I even had a roommate in college named Elyse...she was known on campus as the Evil Elyse, haha. And Gabriel is one my sister's all time favorite names for a boy.

@ambethsco One of my friend's DH was ALL about naming their son Oden or something old and mythical. They wound up naming him Tristan which is super cute.

DH and I had a very brief talk about names maybe six months or so ago while we were stuck parked on the interstate. We have many life discussions in the car. Of course I have a list of names that I really like but he wasn't really ready at the time to make any decisions. One of our friends just named their daughter Zoe and I'm so sad because it was my top name for a girl that I knew DH would go along with. I like a lot of old fashion names and we have a lot of naming traditions in my family. I also LOVE unisex names like Jordan, Quinn, Taylor, Kasey, etc.

I'm still unsure as to whether or not I want to find out if we're having a boy or a girl but my top girl names are Eva Theodora (my grandfather's name was Ted) and  Zara Maria. And my top boy name is Logan with a few variations on a middle name.

It'll be quite a while until we actually sit down, discuss, and decide...

  • @katydid2014 I love Z names in general but I'm also worried DH won't go for it. Darn his friends for naming their daughter Zoe! DH totally would have gone with Zoe because he loves Firefly so much. There's a chance I might get him to warm up to Zara because my great grandmother's name was Sarah Z. and she was the rock of my dad's family....but I have a feeling he'll think it's too far out there.

  • Lol @pennypretty I'm not a big fan of Elise with a "y". I wasn't sure of Gabriel recently, but after looking over the BNB and saying it over and over in my head, I think it is growing on me again. But thankfully we have a little time to see if I stay liking if or if I find a name I like better!

If this one is another boy we are going to have such a hard time finding a name. Both of my sons didn't have names until after they were born because my husband and I have VERY different taste in names. If this one is a girl we like Milena Grace (Mila for short) or Elena and Ellie for short. But there are a lot more names on my girl list so those could change.

Leo Andres or Leo Thomas for a boy. Lisette for a girl. Middle name to be determined. And of course they're subject to change.

Leo is my top boy name. I may or may not have already referred to my uterus as Leo a couple of time. :)
  • I'm baby name crazy, but DH and I have such different tastes, we haven't really discussed anything seriously.

  • We've had our girl name picked out since before we were married, but boys names are just too hard. We casually throw some around when we go on our evening walks, but I doubt we'll get serious about picking one until much later.

DH keeps telling my stomach that it just needs to be a girl so that we won't have to worry about boys names.

  • I'm kind of suddenly anxious about this. (Ridiculous, I know...) We have a gut feeling that this one is a boy, and while originally our boy name was Gabriel Joseph, I have been falling in love with the name Samuel. Especially today I have been thinking about Samuel Joseph a lot. Then all of a sudden I remembered my best friend has had that name picked out for years. She is not married and has no kids yet, but I know she has that name (well, Samuel) picked out as well as a few other names for her future children. Now I want to ask her what she would think if we used it, but at the same time, I feel like she would be upset by it even if she said otherwise. She was married in the past, and has fertility issues, so I am just really worried that she will be super upset if I "steal" her name. I know we have plenty of time to decide, and I may fall out of love with it, or that it may not even be a boy, but today I absolutely love the name and feel sad about not being able to use it.

I love this. DS was going to be Caroline Elise, H picked it out. I'm not 100% on Caroline anymore but Elise is nice. I'm going to push hard for Claire, I think it's so classic and pretty.

Not sure on boys. I want to use Samuel for the meaning (in the Bible his mother was devout and trusting, and prayed for him for years), but unfortunately our dog is Sammy. Lol. It may still make the middle name spot.

  • DH and I actually sat down yesterday and started talking about names, with this being number four we have used up a lot of our names from our list. But after talking and joking around, we actually picked our perfect girls name almost simultaneously. We also have two top contenders for boy names too.

No such thing as dibs! If you are pregnant and have a boy first, use the name you love. She might not have kids or might not have a boy or might not get pg for years and then she can use it if she wants. I wouldn't base a name for my child based on what someone else wants to use. I get that you want to be a good friend, but I personally think it is silly to not use a name you love because of a friend's hypothetical future son.

Definitely no such thing as dibs.  I loved the name Amelia and then my college roommate called to tell me she was using that.  I truly did not care and then it blew up and is everywhere so I would never even use it now.

  • @FrecklesInside, @copperrose, and @jessuhmarie, looking at your responses and reading my post again, I do see how silly it sounds. I think it is just that we have an odd relationship sometimes, and she already struggles with comparing our lives and that I have the things that she's always wanted, like kids and a family, which I know sounds ridiculous, but for a little there, I just felt like she would feel like it was another thing that I had that she didn't. I don't know. lol But I did mention it to her and I was surprised by her response, which was that she would be honored if I used it. She would love it if someday she can have her Samuel as well! Now I just hope DH likes the name. lol

Boys: Jaxon Forrest, Connor James, Bennett Cody
Girls: Eden Eloise, Vienna Diane, Julianne Sommers
All of the middle names are family names. We are going with the plan to have all three names ready and waiting and when the babe makes his/her appearance to decide the name after spending some time the the baby.

@honkytonk_kid, we really fell in love with the name Claire even before we were pregnant. Our daughter is named after our Paris honeymoon, where we stayed on Rue Cler (masculine form of Claire). Plus, I really love what it stands for- clear, bright and famous. She's the "light" in our lives. Her middle name is Elise because DH and MIL would play piano together, and they would play Fur Elise to each other. I never 2nd guessed our name. It's beautiful, simple, and classic. Every time someone hears her name their always like "oh, a classic name! So refreshing. I love Claire!". Of course I'm biased, but I say go for it!
