I found this on Baby Center- eggplant parmesan

But I'm not sure how crazy it is. Probably not much since there's zero replies to it.

Eggplant Parmesan for inducing labor. The restaurant website has over 300 people who say it worked. Has anyone heard of this??

I have about 3 weeks to go before saying "what the hell" and giving it a shot. I found it interesting though for anyone close or over 40 weeks or who are trying to not be induced!

  • I made it 2 nights ago...still pregnant. I read it may have more to do with basil and oregano in the sauce than the eggplant

  • It was mentioned in my Expecting 411 book as an option to try :)

  • No, it wasn't Scalinis recipe. That can't be the only one claimed to work, can it?

  • A bunch of people on DD's BMB said it worked. Of all the ways to get things going this is the ONLY one that sounds worth a shot (not because it works, but it would be enjoyable/tasty)!

  • So, my OB said "any day now" even though I am only 37 weeks. I happened to go to our local Italian restaurant and ordered the eggplant parmesan because I order that a lot when eat Italian. The waitress was like, "OK, so call us if you go into labor!" And I was like...WTF. I guess their recipe is known for inducing labor as well.

    That was Monday night.

  • I love eggplant parm and actually had it tonight for dinner. No signs of labor coming anytime soon. The only thing I had was that feeling like you just stuffed your face with a big italian meal. I have also been eating it like every week for the last 4-5 weeks just because I love it so much!!

Now, with that said, DH and I went to Olive Garden after my 40 week appt with DS1. It was my due date and nothing was happening. Had the eggplant for lunch and that night around 8pm contractions started and he was born 2 days later (worst labor ever).

But yeah, I read too that it's more the spices vs the actual eggplant that get things moving. Good luck if you try it...if all else fails, at least you are getting an awesome meal :-)

  • I used mini eggplant I'd grown in my garden and followed this recipe before my son was born, I went in to labor a few days later. I was full term, had my membranes stripped and was trying a bunch of other stuff to go natural before my scheduled induction. Regardless if it worked, the recipe is very tasty.
  • I've heard of this. Made my sister try it when she was overdue. She eventually had the baby. Lol.

  • If you're full term, technically you're rolling the dice with any meal being your last meal.

So true. We went to my favorite dinky bar last night for wing night. I told DH I hoped the wings and garlic bread would do it but it just gave me heartburn.

  • I love eggplant parm so I'll totally give it a whirl! Buuut not for at least a week and a half. I like this thing inside.

  • I ate eggplant parm last Tuesday for dinner, and was at the hospital in labor by midnight on Wednesday. Of course, I think it's more of a big coincidence, but it's still a funny story to share!
  • I love eggplant parm and ordered some a few weeks ago when DH and I went out for our anniversary... and I'm
    obviously still pregnant.
  • In this heat, eggplant parm is about the last thing I want to eat.  Pineapple on the other hand . . .

  • I just ordered eggplant parm. Mostly it just sounded good tonight. I figure, eh, worth a try. Better than castor oil.

While I'm not quite at 48 hours, nothing is happening. Take that back, I had some contractions today, but they stopped. I think that had more to do with the weather being so nice that I took DD1 to the park, we chased and played ball with our dog, we had a family bocce game, I laughed my ass off at her and hubby having a cartwheel contest, and I had diarrhea from the dinner from hell. So, I'm inclined to say all of that was the more likely cause. :) Clock is still ticking. 48 hours is tomorrow at 2:30. I swear, at the RCS on Monday, this kid is going to be so pissed because she's so cozy in there.
