Lets talk Braxton hicks

How often are you having Braxton hicks? I had quite a lot yesterday and a good amount so far today too. Some painful, some not so much. I definitely didn't get them this often and this strong with my first.

Re: Lets talk Braxton hicks

  • I get them every day on and off. Sometimes 10-20 mins apart and sometimes hours. It's mostly just annoying!

  • They seem worse this time around.  The only time they hurt was when I had a stomach bug and got dehydrated.  Once I was able to hold down water again, the pain went away and it was just uncomfortable.

  • I apparently don't know what they feel like. I don't think I ever had them with DD, if I did...I didn't know that's what they were. And this time, I have my aches and pains but nothing that I would chalk up to BH contractions.

And that could be, but for me, they are tightening my belly, cramping, and sometimes they wrap all the way around my back. Must of the time I have to stop whatever it was I was doing because they just get too painful to continue.

  • I think I noticed 2 in my whole first pregnancy. A few sessions of them in my second. This time I get multiple long sessions of them everyday. I get them anytime of the day or night, but am guaranteed a session in the mid afternoon that is strong enough to have me breathing through them. They are more painful than labor was with my first. (I had a very painless labor with my first.) This little girl takes great exception to the contractions and starfishes out every time...so that makes it much worse. My previous babies never fought the contractions...so maybe that's why I notice them this time. Though my midwife says it's very common to have a lot more and a lot more painful ones with additional pregnancies.

I was just thinking I wish I had a deep tub at the house. I'd buy a waterproof cover for my tablet and work from the bath tub in the afternoons. A nice deep bath was soo wonderful this weekend when I stayed at a hotel. Maybe I'll look into a kiddie pool.

My belly always tightens when it happens. But yesterday I experienced some wicked back pain with it for the first time. I feel dumb because I don't know what it is I am feeling.

I've been getting them every day for awhile but they don't last very long. Mostly in the evenings or at night.

  • I never had any with DD.

This pregnancy I started getting them around 29 weeks, and went to L & D at 31 weeks because I had a bunch of them 5 min. apart for over an hour. Luckily they have calmed down since then, but I still have times where I get them 10 min. apart for a while. They happen randomly throughout the day, and increase if I am on my feet too much. I also get one almost every time I go from laying down to sitting, when I first get up in the morning, etc.

  • I remember having them with both of my previous pregnancies, but they weren't painful - just uncomfortable.

A few weeks ago I started getting pretty painful BH about 10-15 minutes apart in the evening, that are gone by morning. My OB said they're normal and not to worry unless they're getting closer to 5 minutes and more intense, like labor, so I've been trying to just chill with a water bottle in the evenings.

I've been getting some pretty wicked back pain with them too.
  • I'm pretty sure I have zero idea what a Braxton-Hicks feels like. Like, I know it's supposed to be a tightening or cramping feeling but I haven't really gotten anything like that.

Prob because I'm a FTM and am like "whut is a baby lol guys"

Maybe they'll be more noticeable in the coming few weeks.

  • I get them whenever I walk/move too fast. And nowadays, "too fast" is my normal, pre-pregnancy pace so I get them pretty much anytime I'm up and about. They're not painful though, unless LO starts to get pissed and starfish all around in there while I'm having them.
    This for me too.

  • I really don't know. It feels really tight sometimes, but it will feel that way for a half hour. It doesn't come and go in waves??
  • None yet, which kinda makes me nervous, though I know it's also normal

  • I got BH all the time with DD, but have only barely had any this time around. I've actually been wondering if I should be concerned about that, just because I've heard they're usually worse with subsequent pregnancies.

  • I get them all day every day too. Cramps are more rare, though. My OB said that the cramps are likely more so stretching, RLP. She said as long as the cramps aren't lasting more than a day, I'm fine.

  • If I have not drank enough water or eaten enough food, or if I overdo it and don't take little breaks, I get more of them per day. If I do the above, I get 2-3/day.

That's how I felt last time, constantly like "wait, is that a contraction? Is THAT a contraction?" But now that I am getting them, at least in my experience, you will KNOW when/if you do. It's one of those things.

This. Completely. The starfishing is quite interesting these days now.
  • I still don't know what they feel like so I don't know if I've had them. Everyone mentions tightening/hardening of the belly but my belly always feels rock hard to me I really have no idea

  • I've had a few that were pretty painful, but they're mostly annoying. I get them when I'm moving around doing pretty much anything and it makes it difficult to take a full deep breath. My back is in a constant state of pain these days though. I wish I could get that to go away.

Have you tried sleeping sitting up with a bunch of pillows stacked behind you? It hasn't taken all the back and hip pain away from me but it's definitely ALOT worse if I lay down at all.
  • I think I may have had a few a while back when I got dehydrated, but haven't really had any since.

  • I get them mostly at work as I'm on my feet most of the day: standing, crouching, bending, twisting, kneeling, etc. At home if I've been sitting/laying down for a while I'll get them when I stand up

  • I get them all the time. A couple at a time several times a day. I did with DD too. I just pee, drink more water and try to put my feet up.

  • I don't think I have had any. I have lots of aches and pains, but nothing that feels like what I think a contraction would. Or maybe I'm just oblivious.

I get them off and on during the day. If I walk too fast, or sometimes when I stand up. I had them at the very end with DS and I didn't realize they were just BH. For me, my belly just gets really tight and all the sudden I have a hard time taking a really deep breath. If I just relax and breath the best I can, my muscles relax.

  • Yup, I get them all the time too, even with minimal activity.  I spend all day sitting down at my desk and then getting up a few minutes later, and every time I stand up, I get a BH.  And every time I get a BH, I feel like I have to pee right away.  SO annoying.

I had to stop running a couple of months ago because I would get a constant BH that wouldn't stop until I stopped running.

@lappyfoinker You're having BH, right?  Not for-real contractions???  Hope your ute has settled down!!!
