Has anyone popped their hip/lower back while lifting?

I went to pck up DS2 last night and had a pop sound n my hip followed by a lot of pan. I cannot bend over or sit. I have never had back pan like this and not sure wha to do. I could hardly sleep. I'm going to call my OB, but has anyone experienced this ? dS2 is about 25 lbs and I probably was not lifting correctly. How long does this typically last? Anything that can help with relief? I cannot be off my feet with two toddlers. Yikes!

  • Ouch!  I hear ya on the hip pain.  It sounds like you either popped your hip out a little or you pulled a muscle (not a professional, but have had hip pain before).  I'm not sure what your ob would be able to do other than tell you what pain meds you can take and what positions might alleviate pain.  Do you have a chiropractor?  I would be getting into see one asap.  I go every time I have an ob appointment, just to keep things under control.  Feel better!!!

  • I would highly recommend going to an Orthopedic or Sports Doctor to check out the hip. Since you heard a popping sound you will want to make sure you didn't tear the labrum (cartilage) in your hip. If you have clicking or locking in you hip, that's definitely a red flag. As a runner I have unfortunately dealt with my share of hip injuries especially bad strains and a possible labrum tear. They tend to be slow to heal because of lack of blood flow to that area. PT can help a lot if the pain does not go away, but I would definitely get it looked at. Good luck.
