Tl; Dr: Stella Marie was born via c-section at 1:03pm on Saturday, June 28th (her due date!) and weighed 7lb4oz.
Long version: Around 2pm on Friday I was concerned about decreased movement so I called my OB's office who told me to go in to L&D to get monitored. I called DH to tell him to come home from work, and we headed off to the hospital. When we got into triage at the maternity wing, they hooked me up to the monitors and checked me to see if I had dilated any more from the 2cm I had been on Monday. Lo and behold, I was between 4 & 5 cm and contracting every 5 minutes, but didn't know it. The OB advised me to walk around for an hour to see if I progressed, and so I did. After the hour I was contracting every 2-3 mins so they admitted me.
After we got into our room, my water was broken and we waited. I progressed to about 7cm and then stalled. They started a low drip of pitocin, which picked up the frequency of the contractions but not their intensity and I wasn't dilating past 7. We kept adjusting the pitocin and flipping me from left to right throughout the night, but by 10am my dilation still hadn't changed and LO's heart rate kept decelerating with every contraction so the doctor advised me to change my plans because a c-section was now the safest route for baby. Honestly hearing that was incredibly hard for me, there were a lot of tears, but it was the best choice for everyone involved so I'd do it again if I had to.
After they gave me that news, I was quickly prepped and moved into the OR. When they tested to see if the epidural was working, I felt the cold of the alcohol wipe they'd put on my belly so the anesthesiologists upped the amount in my IV. Even so, once things got moving, I felt everything. It was pretty scary and I have no idea how I didn't pass out. Poor DH felt so helpless while I was going through all that. After Stella was born and weighed, they asked DH to come behind the curtain to see her. Finally, he brought her over to me while I was getting stitched up (which I also felt most, if not all of) and we are so in love!
Ok onto the best part - pics!
