June 2014 Moms

Birth story - Hannah Mae

Finally have a chance to get back on with you ladies! Sorry I've been MIA! I hope every one & their LO's are great! My sweet little lady Hannah Mae made her debut on Tuesday June 24, 2014! She was born at 9:12 pm 8lbs 2oz 20.5 inches after an unmedicated 7 hour labour and she is absolutely perfect! Tuesday was a normal day, MIL was coming over for lunch, so I went out to get some fresh stuff and decided to grab some caster oil, thinking why not, nothing else has worked! When I got home around 11, I took it with some OJ and baking soda and then made lunch. At about 2 pm just as we were done eating, I had some cramping and back pain and it began! By 2:30 the contractions were 10 mins apart, by 3 they were 6 mins apart (I called DH), 3:30 they were 4 mins apart. We arrived at the hospital at 4 and they were 2 mins apart (I guess caster oil does actually work). I was checked and was 4 cms!! Dr advised I would deliver the following day. They checked me at 6:30 and I was 6-7 cms with contractions every 1.5 mins. Around 7:30 I was bouncing on the ball when my water broke, the nurse checked me and I was 8 cms!! I then went into the shower to labour as the contractions were right on top of each other and brutal!the shower was amazing, I was so relaxed for about 10 mins when I had an unbelievable urge to push. DH called the nurse in to tell her but her initial response was that she didn't believe me and did some breathing with me to relax, told me his was transition was the worst part but that I could do it. As she was talking me through it she realized I wasn't being dramatic and had me get on the bed for another check and found that I was 10cms and ready to go! Plus she had finally flipped from sunny side up...just in the nick of time. After about 45 mins of pushing, resulting in 2nd degree tares from her shoulders getting stuck, my little lady entered the world! Everything has been wonderful since we've been home! Nursing is going well with the assistance of a nipple shield (the person who invented them she be given a gold medal & and a large raise). She is a sleeper and I have to wake her up for everything, I'm enjoying that now cause I know it will change soon! Thank you ladies for being there during my pregnancy, without you I would have been more of a worry wart than I was!! I'm looking forward to going through this adventure with all of you! And now what you actually clicked on her birth story for...
