Hives and itching

For the past three nights I have broken out in hives on my thighs and arms. They itch so bad. I wake up in the morning and they are gone, just to come back again after work. Is anyone else having or had the same problem? Any solutions?

Re: Hives and itching

  • Benadryl and maybe a call into you doctor. Since they are gone on the morning I would suggest taking a couple of pictures to show.

  • I had something similar on my legs and ended up talking to both my dermatologist and OB about it. My derm was able to prescribe me a stronger hydrocortisone-type cream (sorry, not sure of the exact name!) and it went away quickly. Be sure to mention it to your dr if it comes back. My OB didn't seem too concerned unless it was on my hands or feet. Not sure why??

On the hands or feet can be an indicator of cholestasis and something you should alert your OB to right away.

  • Second Benadryl. Talk to your DR though. It would be helpful that they at least know it is going on. Hives are miserable, Im sorry.
  • Since having my daughter I have had random bouts of hives. I take a Claritin every 3 days or so to keep from getting them. So far nobody has been able to explain what is going on. After this baby is born I will go in for allergy testing.

  • I have chronic hives that started after my son was born. I take a daily Zyrtec and Benadryl when needed. Mine are not from an allergic reaction. All kinds of things can cause them including a change in hormones. After having them all over for months and not being able to take the strong meds bc I was bfing I started getting monthly injections of Xolair and it has helped a ton. It's not a first step or something you jump to quickly bc it's very expensive medicine.

  • Ahh hate to tell you but this sounds like PUPPS and it sucks!!
  • I take a zyrtek a day to keep the hives away. Allergies I didn't know I had popped up with my first pregnancy . Stress makes it waaaay worse too.

  • Maybe heat rash?
