  • Toyota highlander, plenty of space with 3rd row seat.
  • This is a topic I'm having trouble with right now. I have a Toyota Celica. When I bought it (used) after college, I thought this would be the one time in my life to have an impractical little 2-door sports car. I love it...except in winter when I don't feel safe in it, even though I drive maybe 15 mins at a time to or from places. Hubby has offered to swap his Subaru Impreza with me this winter, but I don't like the thought of him driving my car when he drives farther and longer to work. Not sure how much longer I can justify keeping my little car, especially after baby.  :-<

I feel the *exact* same way about my civic coupe. I bought it brand new when I was 17 (ie 13 years ago) and ive kept it even with ds and made my dh drive the crv to work cause he drives into the city every day.. I feel so much safer when he drives the safer car. Im a sahm I dont go out that much or that far. The only problem is that since im a sahm we cant really afford a different car... and with the 2nd on the way it will be impossible for me to take two kids in a civic. Meaning hubs will get it. :((

I'm encouraged to see some Honda CRV moms here!  That's one of the cars I'm considering and will test drive this weekend.  DH thinks we should get a pilot for more room = less fuss with strollers and baby bags (plus he's tall, likes head room), but I've only ever driven tiny cars and am finding the size of the pilot a bit intimidating.  I'm a small person at 5'2" and 100lbs, so I'm also worried about the car being too tall that I'd have to do too much lifting when loading my baby in.

Those of you already rolling with the CRV, can you comment on the trunk space after you put in the stroller?  Tons of room or getting tight?

Depends on what your doing.. normal drive to target the crv is no prob even with the stroller and gear. The only time we have had spacial issues is traveling. Its a little tough if you have a rear facing convertable car seat too because the passenger seat has to be pushed all the way up. But your little so it shouldn't be too big of a prob for you. Now with the 2nd on the way ill get back to you on that one

  • I ride a bike to work and my husband drives a coupe. I'm in the process of trying to convince him a 4-door enclosed something may be in our future, but it's proven to be a tough sell so far!

I'll bring it up after our first ultrasound. That's not manipulative...is it?
  • Well I HAD an Acadia...traded it in for a smaller car ... And now it'll be pretty tight with another car seat. So I'm regretting that decision!
  • I just got a dodge charger. Huge backseat and trunk. It's perfect for our little family!
  • 2014 jeep cherokee. It's my 2nd love

  • We have an equinox. We've got tons of room in the trunk and the backseat can move forward and backward with a lever which is helpful with our jogging stroller and groceries in the trunk area.

  • I drive a 2012 Ford Explorer. We got it because it's huge and we can fit baby+stroller plus H's disabled brother+wheelchair. It's been great, I'm not the best at parking it but I am working on it.
  • I have a Mazda 3.  I am a little worried about fitting the car seat, stroller, baby bag, and any other items like groceries in it.  It's 4 door but the backseat is kinda a joke.  I really want to upgrade but I get such wonderful gas mileage that I'm going to try to make it work!  Nice to hear all of these suggestions though!

I didn't read everything but I agree with this. (Not having "gear" yet) but the trunk is spacious--we fit multiple golf bags back there no problem. If we had to do a long road trip, we'd probably want a poptop or something but I think it's big enough for regular use. Definitely check it out in person, I was surprised how large it was inside, but I came from a VW Golf so...haha! It's not intimidating at all, and I think it's a great car! I think when we have more than one, the Pilot is where it's at for me. But we should be able to get years out of the CRV no problem.

  • Just weeks ago we traded in my 20 (!) year old Honda Accord for a brand new 2014 Honda Pilot. I love it and it turned out to be good timing with our BFP surprise! DH has been driving a Toyota RAV4 for about 5 years. It's an OK car, like the CRV it's hard to travel with dogs and a baby but generally fine for everyday errands. That's why I'm happy we sprung for the Pilot! :)

  • New Honda Odyssey. I had a newer Durango and with 2 rear facing the access to the 3rd row was difficult. I love how many latches for RF and Tethers for FF there are, the sliding doors, and of course trunk space. I'm still getting use to the Odyssey but so far just the ease was worth the trade.

  • 09 Ford Mustang. Not proud of it but it's a car that goes from a to b and surprisingly actually fits a car seat comfortably haha
  • Dodge Grand Caravan. We bought it after my second and plan to fill 'er up. :)
Dream car would be a Chevy Traverse.

  • Dodge Journey.

LOVE this vehicle (mid-size crossover) as it's perfect for kiddos.  Lots of little features- flip down mirror that angles to middle back seat, side doors swing open 180 making hauling car seats in/out so much easier, hidden storage, 3rd row seating, and affordable.

  • I call her Big Red or Ruby. She is my F150 pick-up truck and my first brand new vehicle I ever bought. Sometimes it is nice to have had to grow up because your toys get bigger and better. Oh, and it's kid friendly too! At least I think so. ;)

  • I drive a smart car...

Clearly I need to think on this...

I can't strap baby to the roof :-SS

Hubby has a Nissan versa... I hate that car! He bought it with no power anything... I'm not going to be balancing a baby while I crawl to the backseat to unlock :/

We are looking next month :)
  • I drive a landrover discovery. But also have a little vauxhall corsa xx

What year is yours? I drive a Mazda 3 as well, mine's a hatchback (2010). I find the backseat to be alright, but we haven't tried fitting a car seat in it yet, so my opinion might change when we do. I love how much room the hatchback gives me.

Honda crosstour. Love it and love the hatch back for ease of storing stroller, etc.
  • We got a Toyota Rav4 when Eva was 2 mnths old.  Made sure we got one with a 3rd row so that we could still have others in the car if really needed...3rd row is tight, only for a child or small adult (my mom fits, I don't).  Love it but would have a Highlander if we could have afforded it so the Rav4 was a nice concession
  • Ford flex, I love it! We have 3 dogs in addition to our future little one, it's nice to know we will all fit!

I have a Nissan Altima, we bought it a few weeks after finding out I was pregnant with DS and have had no problem with RF convertibles.
DH has an old Jeep Wrangler. It is a huge PITA to load DS in, but he is obsessed with it, so we take him out when we can.

  • I drive a GMC Terrain. This is our first baby so I have not had a car seat in it yet but my husband and his friends (all over 6ft) can feel in the back seat with plenty of leg room.
My husband drives a 4 door Silverado also a very roomy back seat, we'll even be able to put toddlers in the back seat and not have our seats kicked.
  • Nissan is the way to go!  They perform well, are an "easy" drive, are roomy, and can feel a little luxurious (especially if you opt for leather seats!). Also, when they do need a little fix they aren't super expensive to take care of.

I drive a Hyundai sante fe... The new 2014 models are Beautiful. Huge back seat and trunk, super great safety rating, and so many options available at a great price.

This ...currently have a 2010, and plan to trade in for a 2014 in November.

  • I have a Subaru Forester. We got it because the safety ratings are good and can fit a baby, dog and camping gear. I love driving it, but I do wish it was a little more powerful. It has an enormous moon roof that makes me happy. :)

DH has Dodge pickup that hit 200k miles last month. We've taken it on every road trip, including a couple cross country, and it has hauled supplies for many home improvement projects. We've had great memories in it. I'm sure I'll cry when we have to get rid of it.

  • I have a teeny tiny Hyundai accent right now but will be getting a nissan murano in the fall. I can't wait!
  • We live in a really bike-friendly city, so the big transportation purchase for us is going to be a bike trailer when the kid is old enough. However, we're also trading in our Volkswagen TDI for a Subaru Outback - need more room to go camping with the kid and the dog and all our stuff!
  • I have a Lexus ES 350, but we are planing on getting a minivan before the baby comes. I have loved it, but there is no way to fit 3 car seat. We have looked at the honda odyssey, the Toyota sienna and one other I forgot.
