T21 test

Hey all, I'm here and there between all boards but not always active (14 month old LO) My question is this - what are your thoughts on T21 test? I was 35 days after delivering in 2013 and here we are due in February 2015 -21 months apart :) We did screenings last time but are now offered this one because I'm AMA. thanks!

Which test is it? The "NT scan" or is it the bloodwork?

I personally prefer the "bloodwork" tests like Harmony, Panorama, etc as they are more accurate than the NT scan

I guess I should clarify as i realize I didn't say it right.

NT scan is an ultrasound + bloodwork+ age= Risk Factor

Harmony is straight up blood from you to test for free cell DNA from the baby and gives you 99 percent accuracy of whether the baby HAS or does NOT have many different genetic disorders.

It is more expensive, but more accurate. It also tests for more things

If given a choice, I'd always opt for THAT test as the NT scan will just give you a RATIO but really says nothing about whether the baby will directly have the disorder or not.

    For example,

I was told i had a 1:45 risk fo Down Syndrome based on NT scan, which is pretty scary statistics, owever, Panorama basically told me 99 percent chance that baby had less than 1 in 10,000 chance if that makes sense

Hi @Harleykins! SO good to see you over here!

    I'm due January 21, 2015 :)

I am doing both the NT scan and the Panorama test. I had the bloodwork taken for both on Thursday. I will have the ultrasound part of the NT scan done on July 10th.

I am doing both because the Panorama tests for chromosomal abnormalities. The NT scan can give you "odds" for downs but it also looks at how the baby is developing, organ growth, etc. through the in-depth ultrasound.

For me, both tests were important. I'm planning to do all the non-invasive tests offered to me. Hoping I won't need an amnio or CVS.

Best of luck in whatever you decide!

BFP: 5/10/14 after 14 cycles of trying!
    EDD: 1/21/15
    5/12 1st beta: 28
    5/14 2nd beta: 87.5
5/23: 3rd beta: 4000.6 + saw gestational sac and yolk sac
5/30: 4th beta: 17,852 + saw fetal pole and heard heartbeat! 127 BPM!

T21 gave me peace of mind when everything returned negative. Doc also suggested a NT ultrasound to check neck measurements and they were fine. Good luck! BabyFruit Ticker

This was me exactly. I had the NT and Harmony draw on the same day. Our grnetic counsellor said I could forgo the sequential screen bloodwork if I dis Harmony because Harmony was more accurate. But NT was still worth it bc it looked for other things besides DS and the like.

Oh and as for this, I was super excited until MH said he didn't want to know until the anatomy scan (which will be this coming Wednesday) so I had to tell them not to tell us when they called with results. It's been killing me for the past 8 or so weeks!!

Is anyone else excited about the early gender reveal of it all? Yes, I am super excited to find out the sex so early! A nice bonus to being over 35:) The nurse who did the blood work said my results might be in on Tuesday and to call to check. Trying to not get my hopes up but it's hard!

I found out the sex early (blood-draw at 10 weeks, results about 10 days later) - I was excited to know early, but there was something about being told over the phone that was very anti-climactic for me.  My reaction was "Oh - another boy - thanks." Mostly I was just relieved everything was negative but on one hand I do wish we waited until the AS.

I don't know if it's because it was our first, but with DS there was so much excitement on our way to and from the AS and something about seeing it on ultrasound and finding out.  That said, I was deep down inside hoping for a girl (don't get me wrong, so happy to be having a healthy little boy and a brother for my son), and I had the "girl feeling" - was more thinking of girls names, nursery, buying girls things that I do think my mind would have headed in that direction much longer and I would have been disappointed at the AS, and then I would have probably felt major guilt for feeling disappointed.  Knowing early I was sort of like "cool, another little boy - hand-me-downs!  Time to get to work on his room." It was fun to tell DS he was getting a little brother and hear him refer to my tummy as "little brother" early on.
