Pregnant after 35

Study suggests women who are able to conceive children later may live longer

Some nice hump-day study news for some of us - LOL. I saw this on the Today Show and looked it up.  Women who conceive later in life (33 and later) naturally (no IVF, IUI, meds  etc) seem to have greater longevity.  It doesn't mean by having kids later you increase your lifespan, just that being able to conceive later is possibly a marker for genetic longevity and aging slower.  Women who have children naturally around 40 and later are 4 times more likely to live to 100.   Maybe I'll see some grandkids after all?!!!!

  • We have pretty amazing longevity on both sides of my family (all my grandparents lived to 86+, and my one grandma is still with us at 98 and living in her own home), but this is nice to hear.

Actually, three of my grandparents were born to women who were 45, so maybe there's something to it. :)

My mom had me at 30 and my sister at 34.  DH's mom had his brother at 41.  Both of our Mom's are in their late 60's and doing great.  So I guess there may be something to that.

  • Oh good. This will help me when I have to my next appt at MFM and they put 'elderly mother' on my checkout paper again... I'm 36 as of 1 day ago. Got preg on first try with both kids. Hopefully that means I will live to be 100 and still fabulous at that age.
