I gained 24-26lbs (can't remember exactly) and lost all of it within 3wks of giving birth. That's not typical though. I had GD so in 3rd Tri I gained barely 2lbs...baby was growing, but I was losing weight. I still looked pregnant after the weight loss and was eating like crazy due to DD being EBF. It was all redistributed. As far as toning/firming up, I was still working on that when I got pregnant again.

  • I didn't step on a scale until my 6 week pp appointment, so I have no idea and you don't have a SS option.  I do know it took right at a year to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, though (gained maybe 35 lbs).  I EBF for that year, but was not one of those women that it helped take the weight off for.
  • I gained 70 pounds with my first and at 2 weeks out had lost 36.

  • I don't remember exact dates, but I gained 30 with my first, lost it all and an additional 20 by the time I went back to work at 4 months PP.  No dieting, just breastfeeding. ;-)

  • I gained 23 lbs and it was all gone by about a week pp.

  • I gained 24 lbs with DS and it was all gone in the first month. I still wasn't back to normal though. I had a lot of toning to do. I actually lost another 10lbs (which I couldn't afford to lose) the next couple of months and that took away most of my muscle tone I had left. After working out again I was back to my normal self within 6-7 months post delivery.
  • I gained 36 lbs during pregnancy and ended up losing close to 20 by 3 weeks (although only 7 at the hospital and baby weighed 8 lbs!). By the 6 week mark I'd lost all but 9 lbs and by 6 months pp I was at -10 from pre pregnancy. I think BF'ing did the trick for me.

  • I have no idea, my weight was really the last thing I was thinking about while trying to adjust to life with a newborn. I gained 25 lbs total and I know I had lost it all by 9 months PP.

  • I gained 18 pounds total with DS, was at my pre-pregnancy weight in less than a month.

Breastfeeding really took pounds off for me, too much in fact, at one point I was down to 103 pounds (I'm 5'8). DS was chubby and happy though!

I should add that I had about 50 lbs to lose when I got pregnant, and I gained those 20 lbs back when I stopped BFing.   Weight has always been a struggle for me.

#1 I gained 50 and lost 30 by 3 week, the rest was slow but I didn't care. 6-9 months

#2 I gained 27 lost 7 when returned home and then another 10 by week 3, it was all off by 12 weeks.
  • I gained 45 lost 20 the first week.
  • The day before I was induced I was up 12 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm pretty sure by 3 weeks postpartum I was down about 20 pounds. At my 6 week checkup I'd lost 36 pounds, so dipped 24 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. I was able to maintain this weight loss until my period returned at 6 mos postpartum, after which all of my previous struggles with weight came roaring back. But those 6 mos. were awesome.

I had GD so my results are probably not the norm. I gained about 20 lbs total with DS1. I was ten pounds lighter than PRE pregnancy weight at my 6 day post partum visit. Lost about 10 more after that and once my cycle started again, and I returned to my normal eating, I gained it all back! When I got pregnant with the LO, I was at same pre preg weight as I was with ds1.

  • *lurking* but I feel it's good to offer different perspectives on this

I gained 50lbs with DD, lost 20 of it at birth and the other 30 took a year to drop and it didn't start to come off until AFTER I stopped breastfeeding - but don't let that scare anyone. Around pp month 8 I went to Weight Watchers, got 20lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight, and have maintained (she's now almost 4)

  • I lost weight steafdily after my delivery. In the first 2 months I lost it rapidly like 15 -20 lbs. Right now I'm in the 3rd month and I've stopped losing weight. I've started eating more because I feel I'll be deteriorating my health. I breast feed and I feel really dizzy after that so I go and eat immediately. I don't know if it's healthy or not. I'm very conscious about this since I don't want to look over weight nor do I wish to compromise on my health. can anyone tell the ideal weight for a 3 month old baby'smother?? I'm kind of confused about it.
  • You want us to tell you your ideal weight?!?! You see that's impossible, right?

IME, most women are not back to their pre-preg bodies yet, regardless of their weight.

And on BFing, IME you need a lot of extra calories/hydration for it. More so than pregnancy. I'd ask about nutrition on the BF board to get a feel for it from them.

  • I was the exact same weight 3 days after delivery. .. They had to pump me full of fluids because the babies heart rate kept dropping. She is 1wk and 2 days and im down about 12-13 now.
  • I have read some books and they say it takes an average of 9 months for you to lose the weight you gained during pregnancy. My Little One isn't due until September but I plan to give myself some slack after the birth. After all you just gave birth to a baby. Give yourself some slack.... stressing about losing the weight ironically won't do any good.
  • I gained 60 and lost about 30 of it from delivery.  I lost about 25 after I weaned from BF a year later.  My body hung on to every pound while I bf.

  • I gained 30lbs with DS. By my 3 week appt to check my c/s incision I was down all 30lbs. By the time I went in for my 6 week checkup, I was down another 10lbs.
I'm 2 weeks away from having DD and I've gained 25lbs. I am hoping that it falls off just like it did with DS and then some.

  • I estimated because I didn't actually weigh myself until my six-week check-up. I gained about 20 pounds during pregnancy, and I am fairly confident I was below pre-pregnancy weight when I checked out of the hospital. I was overweight pre-pregnancy, had a pretty bad infection immediately after baby was born and also developed PPA that led to being too sick to eat many days in the first few months. I was down 50 pounds total (-30 from pre-pregnancy) at my six-week check-up.

I wouldn't consider that a typical postpartum weight loss.
