Ma'kai was due 6/11/14 but decided he was ready to come out 5/22/14. 3 weeks early! The day before I had passed my mucus plug but had read that labor might not start for weeks and that it was normal. The next morning at 5am I woke to a gush. I couldn't tell and tried to see in the dark. Once I was convinced my water broke I woke my hubby who replied "are you serious? there is only a few drops on the sheet!" Well that's because I was using his pj pants to catch the rest lol. FYI I decided against the pillow case because I didn't want to stain them lol. I took a shower to clean up and fully wake up while my husband did the same plus panic and run around getting all the things I had nagged him about done. I knew we had an hour drive to the hospital. I had "planned" on staying at his parents house starting the following week to avoid this very scenario. Well thankfully the contractions were delayed. I made sure we stopped at Burger King so my husband could eat something. A side story: we hadn't been in that area since we met and the lady recognized him immediately. It was hilarious seeing her reaction to the fact that I was in the drive through in labor! The contractions were getting pretty good but I still hate some French fries on the way

after I checked in it was pretty smooth sailing. I was in and out of the shower, walked around the room, I even tried the birthing ball and chair in the shower. I was loving the water but not the ball or chair. The tub would've been perfect. I did my meditation and breathing following my birth plan until about 2 pm… I was stuck at 4cm dial action for hours and the midwife couldn't figure out why. My contractions were piling on each other. A nurse actually asked me " do you realize your last contraction lasted 10 min long?!" -_- really? Smfh. I wanted to stick it out but the baby's hr was dropping mid contraction and I was mentally and physically beat w/o progress in dilation. I gave in and had the epidural. Baby still didn't come until 5:27. Turns out he had the cord around the neck and velamentous cord (which apparently is a poorly connected cord and placenta. Normally a cesarian would be done to prevent labor)which could have killed him at any point in the pregnancy. It wasn't discovered until after he was born. When the nurse was trying to deliver the placenta the cord just snapped off. I watch her digging trough the placenta in a metal bowl and even call another nurse over. I was getting worried then they explained. The nurses all called him a miracle baby. We had both come through a lot even gestational diabetes. He was 6 lbs 11 oz 21" long at 3 weeks early and has been breaking records ever since
