Re: ~Gestational Diabetes Check In-6/24~
How far along are you? 26 Weeks, 5 days
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Seeing a dietician/nurse today-I am assuming diet first. Exercise isn't an option as any walking gives me contractions....
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? I have an appointment this afternoon to learn all about GD. I have SO many questions to ask.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? Still just trying to figure everything out. I will have to see what they recommend today and go from there. It feels like a huge learning curve!
I'm on NPH at night and humalog with breakfast and lunch, as well as watching carbs.
I have the first OB appt on Friday since being diagnosed with GDM and I will learn about what further testing I will need. I meet with the dietician Thursday. I fax my numbers weekly to the DM nurse who calls me with suggestions or insulin changes.
I'm struggling with what to eat in between meals and snacks if I get hungry. I have been doing nuts or cheese but they are so high in fat that I am nervous about being unhealthy.
How far along are you? 30 weeks today!
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): diet for now
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? 30 week appt Friday
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? My only issue is my morning numbers. I can't get those down for anything! I can get them "lower" but they are still too high. My other numbers throughout the day are awesome and right on target! Just my fasting is a smidge high and no matter what I eat for breakfast it always seems to be about 40-50 higher than my AM fasting #.
How far along are you? Im 26.5 weeks. I was diagnoised at 14 weeks so Ive been dealing with this for a bit!
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Right now its diet as well as 2.5 of Glyburide before dinner. My after lunch numbers have been high so Im going to start trying to do a 10/15 min walk after lunch to see if that helps. If not, MFM is giving me a week or 2 to make sure Im not having numbers over 125 otherwise they want me to start taking meds with lunch as well.
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? I have my 28 week (though Ill be 29 weeks) appointment with my OB on the 10th. Then on the 11th we have a fetal echocardiogram as well as a growth U/S. We go once a month for growth u/s and starting at 30 weeks a believe, Ill have to go to MFM to also have them monitor the baby for growth and breathing etc once or twice a week.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share?
For those moms who are having a hard time with morning fasting numbers...what Ive found that works for me is to have an evening snack about an hour before bed that is not only high in protein but also has some carbs in it (say less than 24g) Honestly what has worked best for me surprisingly....a half cup of ice cream! My fasting numbers are very rarely over 100. What else has been good snack wise is a slice of toast with peanut butter and a half glass of milk. Or a cheese stick and handful of grapes.

How far along are you? 29 weeks (30 tomorrow)
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): right now just diet, but we will see what the DM says tomorrow.
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Tomorrow I meet with my ob and I also meet with the dietitian. I am definitely interested in seeing my ob, since this will be the first time since the diagnosis so I am curious how the rest of my pregnancy will play out. The dietitian will also determine if diet is ok, or if I need to go on meds or meet with a mfm.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I am struggling with my morning fasting numbers, they want them to be below 90 and I am regularly in the 90s. I have found a half a cup of cottage cheese and some fruit before bedtime helps my numbers in the morning.
I hit 26w yesterday.
Right now I am diet controlled but have been having a harder time with my fasting numbers. This is my second time with gd and far more difficult to manage.
I don't have any scheduled appointments until 7/7 for my 28 week OB but I'm going to call and have my nutritionist look at my levels so I may be in sooner. I also had a growth scan last week because this little guy is measuring in the 14-24 percentile and that will continue every month until he's here.
I'm struggling with having to continue all of this testing and monitoring! I was diagnosed early due to history and it just gets annoying at times. Things are changing and it's hard to figure out what works for me all over again. Oh well only 12-14 weeks left.
How far along are you? I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): Diet/exercise right now
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Have a Childbirth class tonight and Thursday night, and my weekly visit with my OB tomorrow.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? My after dinner numbers were reading kind of high the last couple of weeks, but this weekend, all of my numbers were on target. The only difference was that I was on a day schedule instead of my normal night schedule. So what I think might be throwing my #s off is night shift. I switch back in a couple of weeks, so hopefully that will level things out. Or it could completely throw things off, I don't know. I'll have to wait and see.

@mrsH1112 - to answer both of your comments/questions....
My fasting should be under 95 - which it's only been once since I started this last week. I'm supposed to take mine 1 hour after meals and should be at or below 130. My dinners are usually around 130-140, with the occasional 120 something. My lunches are always between 100-130. My breakfast reading is almost ALWAYS over 150, even though everything I'm eating is "what I should be eating." I tried the ice cream last night and it worked a little, but not enough, so I'm thinking I might put some hot fudge on it tonight, lol. j/k (well..maybe...)
I agree that 120 is really low. According to most information given to my Dad's family (all diabetic, except me and 1 cousin) anything under 180 isn't even considered "diabetic" but pre-diabetic and anything under 140 is fine.
I have only been under 100 fasting a couple of times and those are the times where I ate a popsicle right before i went to bed. Otherwise, it would climb daily, 102 - 104 - 106.
The rest of my meals seem pretty fine regardless, although my lunch today was a little disturbing. I had a 1 hour # of 90. That can't be right, can it? I had a mixed bean salad with avocado, red leaf lettuc and cilantro, lime juice and vinegar. Sugar free jello cup for dessert. I just thought it was ridiculously low (although my lunchtime ones always seem to be low (i.e. 90-120) no matter what.)

How far along are you? 30 weeks
Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): As of right now, just diet and exercise (which my feet are so swollen and I'm having a hard time with)
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? I see my dietitian again next Tuesday to go over my numbers from the first week and a half.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I'm struggling with my fasting number. It is almost always over 100. Doc told me to eat between 30-45 grams of carbs for breakfast, the other day I only had 7, and I was still over. Also, are you guys testing an hour after you start eating , or finish eating?
Glucose into the bloodstream if not enough carbs are eaten, so be careful if you limit carbs. You should be eating what the MD or dietician sets out for you.

Management Method (diet/exercise or insulin/other medication): diet/exercise
Any upcoming appointments/tests (growth u/s, NST, etc) in the next week? Meeting with my dietician this friday.
Anything you are struggling with or need help with? I struggle with my fasting and breakfast numbers. I eat at about 10:30 and test at about 6:15ish. I have tried eating 1 piece of whole wheat toast with pb, and 2 pieces of toast. I tried ice cream-1/2 cup and 1 cup (I am allergic to milk though and this made me sick after the third night) and an apple with pb. My numbers have been between 95 and 105 (my doc wants them under 90). I really am out of ideas to try. I can handle some milk/cheese but not always and of course when that makes me sick my numbers get even more out of whack.
Any questions? Anything working well you'd like to share? I always walk for 10 to 15 minutes after meals. This has really helped my lunch and dinner numbers (my breakfast numbers I am still trying to figure out what I can and can not eat).
I test 1 hour after I start a meal. Also I was really against meds but after having tried so many things for some of my numbers I am beginning to realize that meds may be the only way to control my numbers and keep lo healthy.
The most upsetting thing today was finding out that I will for sure be induced at 39 weeks due to GD. I really want a med free birth and I know an induction makes that pretty hard!
I will have to read all of this in the morning when I have had some sleep
You might want to show some research that induction early doesn't have any better outcomes. GD moms are actually at risk for having underdeveloped lungs in their babies so the longer they are in the better. If you can control your numbers I would definitely discuss this with your dr.
Last night I had 6 oz. of prune juice (yum right lol?) and a few crackers-I am aiming for 2 carb servings for my evening snack. I had that at 9 pm and then tested sugar levels at 8 AM this morning. My reading was 77.
Either that or next time Im walking for a half hour after eating it.

The Healthy Choice option is at least an option, or just make my own, or just skip it till I have the baby :-( haha.
I have to track my numbers and send them to Maternal Fetal Medicine everyweek. I almost thought about lying about the number so they didnt get on me and try and push me to start taking more meds
