Moderator stuff (let's get one in place)

A while ago, we talked about nominating and voting for a moderator. I think we need to do this soon. As a mod on the Bump, I've gotten quite a few PMs and threads directed at me in the reported forums, and I've been doing some board moderating behind the scenes/under the radar for that reason. It doesn't have to be me, but if I'm going to be getting PMs etc.. and doing the moderating anyway, I'd like it to be official because it feels kind of weird right now.

SO, with that said, if you have someone you'd like to nominate to be moderator or if you'd like to volunteer to be on the list of considerations, can you post in this thread so we can do a vote and get someone's name at the top of the board? Thanks!

P.S. This will be a post n' run but I will check back in in a couple of hours to see what you all have to say. Thanks!

I need to know your platforms before I feel comfortable voting. Like if it was me, my tagline would be:

"I haven't read the TOU, but I promise to ban any white knights who say "this is a place for support.""

@LadyXaverian would be a great mod if she wants to do it, and she already knows what she's doing so I'm on that wagon too

If by chance a second mod is needed or if we really want to vote for various people, sure I'll volunteer, why not....My only pitch for myself is my home board is Parenting if that gives you any idea of my feelings towards the TOU or how people should conduct themselves on these boards (if you're familiar with the culture of that board)..... basically, we're all adults and we can curse if we want to and have fun, things don't need to be so serious... BUT I'll still adhere to the TOU to make sure certain lines aren't crossed (truly abusive behavior, trolling, etc... the usual).. No puppies 'n rainbows but no riff raff either.

I guess I really don't care. ETA: I didn't mean for this to turn into everyone show WillC love session! I just meant that if some people are "afraid of posting because of snark" I'm NOT the right person to lead our charge.

It makes sense that LadyXaverian would be it because she's already a mod.

@YaMrWhite - I've been called a bitch SEVERAL times now and people always complain about some snark me and a few others have dished out (though they don't ever mention folks by name, basically - think everyone that is "too afraid to post" because of the responses they might get).

To answer questions about things I've moderated so far, there were 2 threads that had direct profanity/name-calling that were reported. Those posters were sent PMs and reminded that it is against TOU. I got another report about a NSFW link that was posted without a warning. That person got a PM as well and a NSFW warning was added to that thread. I feel like there were a couple of others, but they are escaping me at the second.

Some boards do have 2 mods, so if we want to do a vote thread, I can suggest the top 2 vote-getters to Bump Jackie and we can go from there. Sometimes with BMBs she decides only 1 is necessary, but it never hurts to ask.

Also, I'm pretty hands off unless something is a direct TOU violation. I was mod on TTGP a few years ago, and I used to get a ton (TON!!) of PMs from people who had hurt feelings over nothing, and I never moderated or warned any of the "offending" posters. I just told the complainer that i was sorry they were not having a great experience on the boards, but unfortunately nothing they reported was a TOU violation.

Things that generally get moderated:

- Spam

- Trolling

- Posting identifying information about another poster (real first name, a personal picture of someone without their permission)

- Direct profanity, name calling

- NSFW without a warning, pornography

I do not moderate hurt feelings.

i like the idea of having more than one mod, so someone isn't swamped (especially if one is already a mod elsewhere). maybe they'll make an exception if we specifically request it? or maybe we can make @SpaceGirlSpiff a mod and have @LadyXaverian "unofficially" help her?

Sounds like a good policy to me!

If only one mod is needed, I am all for it going to @LadyXaverian since she has the experience. No worries here

Ok, I'm leaving work. When I get home I'll read back through this thread and write down names of volunteers suggestions.If it is just me and @spacegirlspiff I won't even do a poll, I'll just send the suggestion to Bump Jackie. If there are other suggestions, I'll post a clicky poll and leave it up for a day or 2.

hmm..I haven't gotten that vibe at all and I am pretty active. I think people might take others opinions to heart, everyone is allowed to share and give there two cents. I have not felt you or others have crossed a line. I am not easily stirred...so maybe that is just a personality trait.
