  • Any advice about baby acne? The ped said nothing would work, but I figured I would pose the question to my revered mommy board.

  • Lots of people have said breast milk for baby Acne.

I've heard coconut oil is awesome for diaper rash.... And open to fresh air. I don't wake baby at night unless I hear she ha a bowel movement. During te day I do it to help wake her up. My LO is a sleeper during the day.
  • Baby wearing... I have a baby K'Tan and I'm so paranoid her little legs are going to get their circulation cut off!  Any advice from fellow baby wearers?

DD's skin is really dry and peeling. Anyone else's LO's having this too?

Me! Sooooo peely all over. I've been putting aquaphor on it once a day but I assume she will just shed this layer of skin and be all good. I don't remember this happening with dd1, but I was also way sleep deprived.
  • Peely skin with my boys too. Read somewhere that it's normal.
  • ktcort13 said:

Yea paperwork I got from the hospital said it's normal and doesn't need lotion or anything because that layer of skin is meant to shed.

Good to know! For me it is her hands and feet.

  • We've got flakey peely skin here too.  And a little cradle cap.  The flakes keep falling all over his face and onto his eye lashes and I worry they are going to get in his eyes and hurt.  I asked our Pedi what to do or if there was a special lotion or if one brand was better than another and she said not to lather too much oil or lotion on him bc that could make it worse.  His natural oils are better. Also to give him bath every other day and massage the parts of his body that are the most dry to help remove the dead skin.  Also to brush his scalp with a baby brush.   But yeah, like PPs said, totes normal.

Are you putting her in a froggy position? That seems to be the most comfortable for J.

  • @skamber Thanks! I just tried to look it up to see where its sold.  Is there a baby brand that is recommeneded?  Wedela? California Baby? Or does it not matter?

  • I just gave lo gripe water for the first time bc he's had hiccups for half an hour and was struggling to fall asleep. But now he's wired like I just gave him a shot of espresso! Normal?

  • How often do you bathe baby? Less at all if you don't get out of the house?

  • @BMaidPlanner‌ I bathe him maybe twice a week, more if his neck roll funk gets too bad. He doesn't really spit up, and I wipe his face down with just water every day to take off the milk because he's a messy eater.

  • @ktcort13 I probably won't bring her until 6 weeks or more, but I work in Times Square so it's more about not wanting to take her there on the train and deal with that area when she is so young. I've invited key work friends to come here when I'm ready.

  • I just gave LO gas drops (Mylicon) and it seemed to really help, but now he's SUPER drowsy. Could this be from the drops? Unrelated?

At what age do you feel ok taking LO to your work to show off?
I'm taking LO in to my work tomorrow, just one day shy of 4 weeks.  Maybe that's too soon, but I haven't had any visitors besides our parents, and am going crazy sitting at home.  I love my coworkers too, can't wait to see them all.

How arw any stm+ moms handling grocery shopping? I had ds in the cart part and dd on the seat (I know it's advised not to but if I had her in the cart cart she took up the whole thing) and I got some NASTY looks from a lot of people. I didnt have groceries piled on him and I only grabbed like five things. I plan on wearing her when she is big enough (like next week) so this is a temp problem but I'm curious as to how y'all are handling it

I'm planning on doing the same thing but since she's a preemie she's gotta get bigger to fit in the baby carrier. But when we went last week for groceries we just got 2 shopping carts and I was waiting for someone to say something but I managed to get lucky
  • For the peeling, i have been using baby oil in circular motion on her body after a bath. This helps to moisturize it a bit and the circular motion will take some of the dry skin off. For her face, i have been using baby vasaline.

DH and i found that the baby sleeps much better if we bathe her right before bedtime but we dont know if its ok to do that everyday. My LO is 3 weeks old. We bathe her twice this week already and its only wednesday.

We were told it's fine to bathe every day, but only necessary to use soap a couple times a week. As to the dry skin they said to massage the areas in a circular motion while in the bath to help remove skin and that lotion was unnecessary until after this first layer of skin is done shedding.
FTM so just going off of ped recommendations and other moms. Hope it helps!

  • Another question... My LO screams sometimes in her sleep and cries a little... And then goes back to sleep. I dont think they dream at this stage of life right? She screamed at least 4 to 5 times just this morning.
  • My husband went with us for the Big grocery run and just carried her around the store. Otherwise I've just done the put her I. The big part with a few things around her.

My LO cries in her sleep too. She also smiles and grunts. I thought I read they do dream and are frequently in rem sleep.
  • @ktcort13‌ - we brought LO into work yesterday, he was 5 days old. We thought it was better to bring him in to work and see everyone at once then having people come by the house at all different times.

Mine does that too. Randomly will scream in her sleep, I wake up thinking she's waking up, nope, she's out cold. Random
  • @mrsdbc you had both LOs in your cart and people gave you looks?  What do people in your area typically do?  I'm planning to put LO in the carrier (I have the K'tan and a small baby) for groceries, but our stroller has a pretty large basket and I could definitely use it for a small-medium shop.  I usually see people with babies in carriers, sometimes families where mom has the cart and dad or grandma has the stroller, or with the carseat in the cart like you're describing.  People only get looks when they have a rampaging toddler.

  • Sometimes LO doesn't go to sleep.  She's not crying or fussy, just wide awake.  During the day this isn't a problem, but at night I would like her to sleep after eating (I feed her around midnight, and then again around 3:00).  I've tried changing her before and after feeding, skipping the 3:00 change, holding her until she falls asleep (I fall asleep first), putting her down right away, a paci which she disregards, and leaving the lights off.  Any tips?

  • Baby acne... What do I do?
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @Temurlang1‌ you are doing all the right things. Keep it dim and quiet in the room at night, limit stimuli, keep her warm, etc. Time will help and she continues to sort out day from night.

@SarahS11‌ there is nothing you need to do. Baby acne clears up on its own eventually.

@ktcort13‌ once the stump falls off you are good to go. Regular bath is fine. The only thing to keep an eye out for is bleeding. A little bit for a day or two is OK as long as it clears up and isn't noticeably actively bleeding. Charlie's was bleeding five days after the stump came off, not a lot but for that long, so I took him in and they ended up cauterizing it because he had a granuloma that was preventing it from healing.

For us what seems to work is turning a lamp on low while feeding and having soft low music on while feeding. I have baby lullabies on my phone that I turn on just load enough to hear. Maybe try that, both my kids preferred and still do like noise/music when going to sleep. Also agree with keeping them wrapped up nice and warm and cozy.

In regards to baby wearing, when did you all start wearing your LO? My LO is just a little above 7lbs and I tried the k'tan the other day and her head seemed a little too wobbly for me. I felt like I still had to hold her head up. Also I agree with @mrsdbc‌ when I had her in the k'tan she felt really warm.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @jacksoha‌ I used the K'tan for the first time yesterday. LO is under 7 pounds (yes, I know, but I need my hands). I used the sling to hold her head in place. It's kind of hard to explain without seeing it, but think of making the pocket longer. I have the breeze because I thought it's a good idea for a summer baby, but I did try to keep out of the sun and not leave her in it all day.

  • Question! I fed Liv around 4 something, she falls asleep and unlatches at her normal amount of time and is asleep. Second we put her down, wide awake and fussing, acting hungry again. I know this could go on all evening (happened yesterday, she wouldn't sleep until 11pm and I was at my wits end attaching her to my boobs over and over.)

So, long story short we managed to soothe her and she is asleep around 5 something.

Am I going to regret this because she will be up all night? I just couldn't be a pacifier every 20 minutes tonight.

@katekat8721 do you just kinda pat them down with it or how's it used? Sorry I'm confused lol

I bought a frog toggle a couple of years ago. They're great!!! You wet them with water (warm or cold) and it keeps the person cool until it dries. I'll buy a new one for LO. It should be fine to place on the neck to keep baby cool.

Do you offer the second boob after? My LO falls asleep on the boob but sometimes will take the second boob even though I thought he was done.

Nothing really, that is a good thought. My Pedi recommended one boob at a time feedings (so sore nipples have a chance of healing) but more nips seem to be toughening some. Thanks, maybe this will help.

No preemie experience but gas drops should all have the same active ingredient (simethicone). I bought target brand.
