I have been on the waiting list for a morning spot since February. I was #12 on the list and just got the call this morning that we got it! This will make our days much simpler come fall!!

I got the letter that DD got an am spot! Back in February, each elementary school gas a different day to call the school district. You leave a message with your name, the child's name and your number. Then they call you back yo set up a registration appt, where you bring all the paperwork.

They keep track of the time each call comes in, and the earliest calls get their am/pm preference. On our call in day, there was a huge snowstorm and the phones were messed up. A lot of people couldn't get through. I finally did get through, after a friend had texted me that she did. They ended up moving it to the next day, but if you had gotten through the original day you didn't have to call again. Such a weird system!

I was really mad at myself bc I was undecided about sending him to k this year and that's why I missed out originally. I'm so glad he got in though! Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed that he'll get the teacher I prefer! :-)

Yes, it is such a weird system! Last year we weren't sure if we were sending DS to public or private k so we registered him for both. I didn't know that was how it went, so I was in no rush to make the call. Luckily we decided private k was better for him, so it didn't matter, but he would have been am

I just wish we had full day k so it didn't matter. Gould luck with the teacher assignment! I heard that my DD got a great teacher, I hope it is true (a friend of mine knows someone in the district and supposedly my DD is in her DS' class)

I am still hoping that DD gets a morning slot for preschool this Fall. I was really late at registering her and the school was extremely accommodating, especially on such short notice so I will happily take what I get, but I am still silently hoping. : )

I've actually only met one person who actually would prefer afternoon class. For us it would just be a big change because we always have such busy mornings then our afternoons are really low key while dd naps. It wouldn't be a big deal if he went in the afternoon but I think it'll be an easier transition for him this way.

I'm impressed your school even accepts requests! When my oldest was starting half day K we were notified in late August whether it was am or pm. Working parents therefore had two weeks notice to make arrangements for before/after care! It was such a clusterfuck.

And I haaated pm K. Nothing was open early enough to go there, eat lunch and be ready for school starting at 12 (except the playground, which we did a lot, but no museums or anything) so we couldn't spend that extra time doing something exciting to supplement learning (an excuse I often see for 1/2 day K) and by the time she got done with school and homework it was time to start cooking dinner. So basically our entire day was shot for 3 hours of school.

I'm actually really happy that DD2 got an afternoon 4K spot. We can't do anything in the afternoon anyway bc DD1 gets off the bus at 3:40. Now they'll both get off the bus together, and we can still do morning activities at the Y. We'll probably do swimming lessons one day and maybe a sports or dance class another.
