S/O typed address labels instead of handwritten?

I think we are pretty much in agreement that having guests address their own thank you envelopes is tacky. There seem to be a few areas of the country that it is acceptable, but for the most part, considered tacky.

What about typing address labels instead hand writting the address on the thank you note envelope?

Is this ok, or still tacky?

  • I don't think this matters at all.

  • It's NMS but I wouldn't be put off if I got one with a printed label.

  • I see nothing wrong with labels. However, I used to do collections and we used pre printed labels, so I personally, could never use them on something as personal as a thank you card. For Christmas Cards, I print the addresses directly on the envelope.

  • I, personally, love the use of labels.  They're much neater to read.  If you "dress them up" a little bit, it's always nicer.

I have already printed labels for our baby announcements - I made them in purple, and added a baby rattle icon to each of them to make them even more fun!

For Christmas, I also use labels.  Why not?  I hand-write inside them every year, anyway!

    This.

  • Labels are fine!
  • I see nothing wrong with it. We have received a couple of wedding invitations this summer on which the addresses were labels and not handwritten. At first I thought that it was a little bit impersonal, but I know people are busy these days (one couple went from planning their wedding a year away to to planning it for 48 days away due to family illnesses!) and at least they looked neat and clean, which I think is way better than messy and unveven handwriting.

    Go for it!

  • I think they're better--they  look neater & all lined up. Lots of times when writing on an envelope, it can come out slanted or not in the center. I plan to do labels.

  • Could be total bonk, but I believe typed addresses (either printed on labels or directly onto the envelopes) are less likely to have processing errors in the mail as all addresses are scanned by computers.

I always print directly onto the envelopes. I did it for my wedding invites and thank yous. But then again, I hate my handwriting/printing.

  • For me, it dictates the type of event.  For example, if I get a wedding invite and the address is written I get the sense that it will be a more formal wedding.  Same thing for showers.  If I recieved something that had a lable, no matter how nice it was, I would think that it would be more of a casual gathering.

  • tacky is too strong of a word, I'd say. but I do think lots of people notice.  typed address labels scream business and I think the added touch of handwriting makes invitations and thank you notes (Christmas cards, etc) that much nicer.

  • Who cares? Not me. Just hand write the TY note is all I ask for.

(this is coming from the woman who has gotten typed generic TY notes for showers and weddings with written fill-in-the-blank gift I got them).

I agree...And while I personally prefer to hand write it, I certainly don't think less at those that don't.

  • I don't think it matters.  I use lables for big mailings (invites, thank yous, and holiday cards) but I always use a fancy/fun font to dress them up.  I think as long as the thank you note is handwritten it doesn't matter how the address is on the envelope.
