successfully BFing in a carrier or sling?

Apologies if this was already discussed (probably on the page just one older than where I ran out of patience with scrolling through) but ... have any of you been able to BF your new LO in a carrier or sling yet and if so which kind? Especially if you have a smallish baby (my DD is 6.5 weeks but still just over 8 lbs - though holds her head up very well) . I don't think she is going to start spending less time eating any time soon and I need to get off my butt way more ASAP!!

  • Following. I fail at slings in general, but I would LOVE to be able to use one for feeding.

  • I did it once. It's tricky.

I went into the bathroom (glamorous) and fiddled around with lowering the straps (ergo) then shimming my hand in to hold it there for him to feed.

I have been unsuccessful after that. DS was 6 weeks and can hold.up.his head decently.
  • I have the K'tan and I have been able to "Ninja Nurse" (as MH says) in public really easily. She loves it! Slides right over to a boob and even burps right in it! So happy with that thing...

  • I also nurse my dd in my boba 3G. I whip it out, hook her on. And hold my boob to make sure she isn't smashed into my boob. This is baby #2 for me in the boba though and it took me at least 6montns to figure out ow to do this last time! Keep practicing, you'll get it!

@LeeLee86‌ that sounds promising - thank you! I have a ktan but am still getting used to it - mostly to getting her into it more easily. Tends to twist up. Do you feed LO on the side of the inner loop or outer loop? Then I'll have to figure out how to get her low enough (my boobs are low to begin with and even more so now ... sadly!). Also can you walk/move around while LO nurses? Im OK with NIP most places (had boot camp for that in the form of a plane trip/family memorial service 2 weeks ago) but want to be able to move around more at home instead of just sitting to nurse all the time. Or at least sit and do something with both hands!

    Love "ninja nurse"!

Thank you! Boba is now on the list for "better carrier" candidates! (The ones we have now are not feeling like they'll be OK when she is much heavier!)

  • I've heard lots of success with this on some of the baby wearing groups I'm on on Facebook. Most Tula carriers. I breastfed my son in my Moby wrap (doing it now actually lol) but only when I'm home. I haven't braved it in public!

  • I've done it, but it's still a little tricky & not so discrete. I have to lower him way down & use my hand to help him latch. I BF my older daughter a ton in the Ergo, and it gets much easier & more discrete when they have better head control & can latch on their own easier.
  • Are there YouTube videos on this? Just throwing that out there. I have no idea...

  • @libbylu7‌ Yes, there are lots of videos! Also check for videos on your carriers manufacterer's website. Helped me a lot, but it's still tricky-- I need more practice. With my boba 4g the sleeping hood makes it pretty discrete.

  • I've heard a ring sling works the best for this but can't say from experience.
