Re: Newbie with outside babies questions thread!

  • @CJnKR2014 benadryl isn't allowed when breastfeeding? I hadn't heard that. I wonder why?

  • @shellbell813‌ i was told by my LC in the hospital that benadryl will dry up your milk supply if you are taking it regularly, not just a one-time dose (which i had to for my puppps.) I personally wouldn't take any chances with it.

@BMaidPlanner‌ I didn't get stretchmarks until 36 weeks but then I got them pretty bad on the under belly. Mine itch SO BAD - like I want to rip my skin off. My dr said it's the skin coming back together and there's no "magic bullet". Cortisone cream helps for about 30 seconds

My friend had the same problem and she uses extra virgin olive oil on her tummy and she said it works wonders.
  • @lola4411‌ did it work in time for pics? We also had to massage LOs tear duct.

  • Any extremely large busted ladies out there use a hands free pumping bra? Which one would you suggest? I always have trouble with sizes and now realize how hard it is to pump since I have to use both hands.

I'm going to try cutting some holes into a sports bra and see how that works
That's my plan also. Though idk if I fall in the "extremely large" category - I'm 38D now but still have an inside baby so my milk hasn't come in at all yet.

  • @BMaidPlanner‌ I've been extremely itchy ever since my stay at the hospital. I'm 3 wks pp. I can't seem to get relief and wherever I scratch I get these awful bumps. I had asked the nurse when I noticed it on my back and she said it was just because I've been in bed the whole time and sweating because I was on magnesium... But I am now doubting it was because of that if I'm still itching like crazy (EVERYWHERE!)

I have similar bumps on my back. My PP nurses said it was from the adhesive used during my epidural. Most band-aids and tapes don't bother me, but I am allergic to steri strips. In an effort to avoid benadryl, I was given hydrocortisone cream. It's been working.

  • Anyone else's LO have white residue on their tongue? I don't think it's thrush bc it's only on her tongue and doesn't seem to bother her much. Just don't remember DD1 having it
  • @Mia081081‌ charlie has the white residue. It's worst after he nurses and better right before a nurse so I assume it's milk. I've had thrush, Google what the white spots look like because they are very different.

My Charlie has it too. I thought it was thrush as well. I called the doc and I'm waiting for the nurse to call me back.

  • Thanks @Lilygrace48‌ and @jshrop‌

Let us know what you're doctor says!
  • @Mia081081‌ @Lilygrace48‌ @jshrop my LO had that going on for a while too. I was worried about thrush but it was just milk residue because new babies don't really make saliva. We wiped it off a few times, but have found that it she sucks on a pacifier after eating, it disappears. In my research, if you are able to wipe it off fairly easily, it's no big deal.

When does the 3 week growth spurt start? Is it during the 3rd week or after
  • Anyone else ebf been told they have to give their lo vitamin d drops? I hate giving them to her and would rather just get her in the sun a little. None of my other ebf family members did this or were told to. Just wondering what others have been told.

Yeah, we were told to start at one month
  • @MrsRahl- Yes, my pediatrician told me to use Vitamin D drops. She said she recommends them for all breastfed babies because breastmilk doesn't give them an adequate amount of it. Here's information on the CDC that backs it up.
  • @MrsRahl‌ yep. My ped wants us to do the drops. I also hate giving them and find it extra weird since we live in Miami. I ended up giving them occasionally or putting them in her bottle once we started that at 3-4 weeks. (DD1)

We haven't started with DD2 yet but probably will within the next week
  • We're doing the drops too. I usually pump a bottle so DH can do one of the nighttime and he just puts the drops in there.
  • jshropjshrop member
@Mia081081‌ they said if you can scrape it off it's milk, if not it's thrush. I could scrape hers.

They also said if I'm concerned that I have thrush to cut all sugar from my diet for a while to see if the situation improves. They can also prescribe Diflucan for the yeast. I made an appointment to meet with the LC to recheck our latch and see what she thinks.

  • Any tricks to get lo to take the drops without gagging or choking? I've tried doing little bits in the corner of her mouth but she just doesn't get it. We haven't started pumping (told not to until 4 weeks) so I can't mix it. We also were told to start immediately.

Also, there are days like today when lo cries all day when she's not sleeping. She's changed, fed, and will calm when I give her a pacifier but it takes a while to get her to take one and then she spits it out after 5 minutes or so and starts crying and we start the whole thing over again. Holding her, gas drops, mamaroo, walking around with her, nothing seems to soothe her but the soothie binkie she keeps a losing. I wish there existed a safe binkie you could strap to their face! Lol anyone else have any tips or dealing with this too?

  • I put the dropper in the corner of her mouth while she's breastfeeding and squeeze tiny bits in while she drinks.

My Pedi also gave us Vitamin D supplement drops and said to give LO one ml every day for the first year. I seriously keep forgetting to give it to him and have maybe given it half a dozen times.  I am exclusively breast-feeding with the occasional 1-2oz formula if we are having a rough day pumping or eating.  Anyone else told to do this for a year? Good idea on putting it in a bottle, thx :)

Our ped said they weren't necessary if I continue taking prenatal vitamins.
  • I can scrape it off but not too easily. Then again she doesn't like it when I try. She's eating a lot today but is pretty fussy when she's off the boob. Much more so than usual but it could just be one of those days.

    Mad LO pic.
  • @Mia081081‌ my understanding is that thrush will make the whole mouth white not just the tongue. Also if you scrape off the white it would be red or bleed. But can't hurt to call your pedi.

My ped told me to give the vitamin D drops for as long as you EBF, because formula contains vitamins they need.  I was also told to start immediately, and have given them since day 5... unless I forget ugh.  I give LO the d-vi-sol drop with no problem, sounds like I'm lucky he doesn't gag over it!

@MrsRahl‌ are you using d-vi-sol or whatever that's stuff is called. I had that initially for DD and it just made her vomit immediately. I switched to the d drops. It's vitamin d in no coconut oil carrier and it's only one drop per day. I would just put it on my nipple and DD never even noticed. I feel so much better about giving that to my baby than that other artificially flavored crap.

This. The one we got on Amazon is Carlson Super Daily D, one drop is so much easier than 1 mil.

No one has ever mentioned vitamin d supplementing to me at any appointment, do you think the prenatal vitamin info is pretty standard?

  • So glad I haven't gotten around to getting the di vi sol! Thanks for the D Drops recommendation! With DD1 we did di vi sol and she choked so bad one time that she almost turned blue. Scared the bejeesus out of us. That's why I always gave it in a bottle. D Drops sound way better!
  • Our pedi recommended the Carlson D drop starting at one month.
  • @CAMag‌ @StrawberryDreams219‌ yes its the di-vi-sol. That's what the pharmacy gave us. What are d drops and where do I get them?

  • Anyone here dealing with diaper rash already? It's minor but I'm not sure what to do other than to change even more frequently and I really lather her with a&d for a wetness barrier. She bas little red bumps on her thigh and bum cheek on one side. Problem is she sleeps so much during the day and I don't want to wake her so she'll be in a diaper for 4 hours at times. But when she's sleeping through the night eventually doesn't everyone just let their child sleep and not wake to change and it's much longer than that? I don't want to wake her jusy to change her if she'll finally sleep..
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • @MrsRahl‌ we've got the same over here. A little redness right on the bum and some red Spots on his thighs. I assume it's Parr heat rash and part the damp from when he sleeps long periods. I'm going to try some naked time over the next few days and see if it gets better.
