Swelling Feet Anyone?

I an 15 weeks -almost 16 -and have been experiencing swelling in my feet and hands. I already cannot wear my wedding ring :( . My feet tend to swell after any significant period of time standing or walking. I'm a teacher so luckily I am able to rest a bit this summer, but sheesh! Isn't it too early for this? :-/ I plan to discuss this with my doctor at my appointment on Thursday, but are any of you experiencing this?

Re: Swelling Feet Anyone?

  • My fingers swell a bit more easily now but that's about it. I'm glad you're discussing it with your doctor because it can be a sign of gestational diabetes. Just be sure to drunk lots of water and monitor your sodium intake.

  • Unfortunately, my feet started swelling when I hit 10 weeks! I'm now almost 15 weeks and it's occurs daily. Define talk to your doc about it. They checked me for high blood pressure, diabetes...both of which came back negative. They aren't sure why I started swelling so soon. I now have to wear compression stockings; even through this lovely heat wave, but it works really well. Good luck to you.
  • Mine aren't really swelling, but I'll tell ya, my ankles tend to hurt after a day on my feet. This happens mostly when I'm wearing flat sandals without much support. After I threw my sister's bridal shower and was running around all day, I needed ice packs on my ankles and serious elevation.

Medically speaking, whenever you have a chance, elevate your feet. Keel them higher than your knees and your knees higher than your hips... Trying to reverse gravity. 20 mins like that can do wonders.

  • It probably has a lot to do with the weather. Is it really hot where you are? I haven't started swelling much yet but sometimes my fingers swell when I'm outside.
