How much stress is too much?

We all know stress isn't good for our baby but has anyone else been ridiculously emotional and your brain can't register to separate the two anymore? Pregnancy is still under wraps and my boyfriend moved an hour and a half away for work so it's easy for me to feel alone and emotional at the moment. Work is ok, not worried about anything going on there. Many mixed emotions and wondering if anyone else feels this way. Also, what are some tactics you may use to calm yourselves down in an emotional freak out?

Re: How much stress is too much?

  • Normal stress like you described is fine. I've read that the concern with stress is more about the severe kind associated with a death in the family, losing your job or home, or a car accident. Something well out if the norm and intensely stressful.

Still, that's not saying that if you suffer a blow like one of these that it'll harm your child in any way. We might be losing my husband's grandfather here soon...his health been going downhill. You've just got to work on stress management and not let it get out if control.

I have had panic attacks before, and one technique I recently found to deal was to look around you and name five things you can see. Next name four things you can touch. Next name three things you can hear. Next name two things you can smell. Now name one thing you can taste. This should take your attention away from the symptoms of the attack and trigger and ground you.

For stress less than panic attacks, close your eyes and breath very deeply and slowly in and out. Maybe a five count in and five count out. Just focus on your breathing and counting. You should feel a bit of a reset after a few cycles if this. You can also try yoga. I used to do yoga in college and looooved the feeling I had after the cool down and tea. Or at least where I did yoga had this. It was amazing.
