Trouble TTC

Switching from IUI to IVF questions

So IUI #1 and 2 were busts.

Looking at cycle 3. DH's work schedule is limiting us the next few months so we were going to cryo freeze sperm, etc. Numbers are still low, only going to have 5 mil for IUI #3 with what we have frozen at the moment.

PA that I have been seeing at the REs office pretty much rec'd we start looking at IVF due to consistently low sperm count. Everything has been less than 8 million this month and last month. IUI #1 was about 12 million.

I'm pretty much freaking out........what do I need to know? What do I do now?

Well....if you're going to look at IVF, you want to figure out if your insurance provides any coverage. If not, how much does it cost at your clinic and how you will pay for/finance it (you need to answer that for you, not literally here :) )? You would need to set up an appointment at your clinic to discuss switching and how it would work. They will give you an idea of what protocol they think you might do best on and then you will get instructions from there. They probably have a specific way they conduct all of that, so you could just call and ask how that would work for you.

It can feel very overwhelming. Just take it one step at a time. Ask questions here or over on the Infertility board along the way. I felt an incredible amount of anxiety before my IVF consult. It was unknown territory and I hate that. I googled IVF and read most of what I could get my hands on. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that though. You're gonna get the good, the bad and the ugly and, if you're like me, you're going to focus on the ugly ;). After my consult, we had a plan and I felt so much relief. Then it's just a waiting game.

    Good luck!

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

Well what would you like to know :)

We were not eligible or IUI due to my DH's MFI, so we jumped right into IVF. I think first is to look into costs and see if you want to stick to your current RE's clinic or move forward somewhere else. Check out the SART scores of different clinics in your area for success rates to see what clinic may be a good fit, and where your current clinic falls. Also, see if your insurance covers, if anything. I wouldn't necessarily a place solely on their SART scores, but it's a good place to start.

After we were done with all our testing and knew our IVF game plan, I was on BCP for a cycle, waited for AF, and then started stims which can vary depending on how well you respond. I went for monitoring on CD2, CD5, CD7 and now CD9 (tomorrow) and will probably have to go back daily for monitoring until my ER depending on how it goes tomorrow.

I would ask when the monitoring appointments are and where you can go for them and what their schedule is for the weekends when you look for clinics. Good luck!
