Re: ***FFFC 6/20***

  • The ones I had (I assume they all are) were machine or hand-washable.
They went into a soaking bucket with detergent then got washed in the sink (obviously with the poop dropped into the toilet beforehand! There was a little scooper-thing in the box with them for that purpose and they can be used with disposable liners)

It's not ideal but it was totally possible and meant being able to wash as much as I had time for whenever I needed it instead of having to wait for a full load of laundry every time

I know it wouldn't work for everyone but its something

Just to add to the cloth diapering talk. You can buy flour sack towels at Walmart or places for super freaking cheap to use as cloth diapers and a few covers. Saw it on my Cloth Diaper group.

Disposable diapering problem solved, if it's too expensive.

Goodness. I was buying diapers, not booze and drugs. You do what you have to.
Honestly, this just makes me sad. :(  I've read stories where people will scrape off poop and re-use diapers just because they can't afford them - or forgo food so they can buy them. Whenever there's good deals going on at Target or wherever I try to pick up an extra pack to donate to social services because I know it's usually harder to get assistance for diapers than food.
Yes, I agree that is sad. I am in no way putting down someone who legitimately needs help with diapers; but there is one thing I would like to point out about this particular situation. I said it before and I will say it again: WIC is a supplemental program. It is not meant to be fully supportive. In other words, you don't get enough formula to fully feed your baby each month. If she were truly in as bad of a situation as she says she was, then she would have needed that formula just as bad as she needed the diapers. So why commit WIC fraud when you can get diapers elsewhere and you need the liquid/powder gold just as much? I know it's not as easy to get diaper assistance, but why return the formula if you truly need it? I can find much better deals on diapers (via sales and coupons) than I can on formula. You don't get extra to have enough to return! Not to mention, every can of formula returned is wasted because it can't be resold. There are much better ways that this could have been handled had the story been 100% legitimate. I think she was so caught up in trying to make Hoshi look bad that she exaggerated her own circumstances in attempt to make Hoshi look worse. That's why I don't believe it and I am calling her out on committing WIC fraud. WIC regulations are the same for every state. The amounts are all the same, but the brands, etc may vary from state to state. So I know that what I got for my formula-fed son is the same amount that she got. While in theory her "trading formula for diapers" doesn't sound all that bad, her story has holes in it. From the outside looking in, I honestly wouldn't think it was that big of a deal either to trade formula for diapers. I would probably feel bad for her, just like you stated. Like she said, she was doing what was necessary to provide for her baby. But if you truly understand how WIC works, you know that something's not adding up with her story.
I just saw this now. I was breastfeeding, but signed up for the formula plan because I didn't know how long I'd be able to do it. I started having supply issues at 2 weeks pp, but was able to increase it over time and breastfed until 6 months. At that time, I moved back with my mom and got a job, and was able to leave government assistance completely.

I started my job in November of 2011, and bought cloth diapers (WITH FLOUR SACK TOWEL INSERTS!!!!) the following month. I totally got the idea from a cloth diapering forum as well. I sold all my cloth stuff when DD turned 2, but we're cloth diapering with this baby too.

Thank you!  I am feeling crazy. Cramps, BH, etc. but totally unsure about whether anything is really happening, and feeling like I should know because I've done this before.

I don't know a single lullaby. Does my college fight song count b/c that's probably the only song that I know all the words to.

I sang the intro song from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air to my nephew, he could not have been more enamored ;)

With my first the only thing that would come to me was the Oscar Meyer Weiner song:) You do what you can:)
