Friday June 13th, the service dog puppy and I took off, as usual, for some ob appointments. The day started with a growth scan at 9, followed by an ob appt at 9:45 and an NST at 10:15. We had plans to stop at the fabric store on the way home to pick up the rest of the supplies I needed for the sheets and changing pad cover I was making.
U/S tech was new to me. (My other growth scans have been done by one person). She spent a lot of time looking at our SUA. Like a lot. Enough that I was a bit uneasy. So, she tells me that the radiologist reviews all u/s before letting us go and I should wait in the waiting room (red flag #2. So not a normal occurrence). She offered me a bathroom stop on our way out and I said I would wait because I was on my way to the ob and would need a sample there. She was visibly relieved (dang red flags!). After the rad looked at my u/s, she came out to send me to the ob "now."
So we get over there and my nurse tells me that it's been a crazy day (full moon!) and that my ob was on the phone with radiology and would be in in a second.
She comes in and, the minute she sits down and says "well..." I burst into tears. Like the ugly tears, knowing something was wrong.
Turns out growth had dropped from the 12th percentile to the 3rd. She said this indicated that the placenta was breaking down and I needed to get the baby delivered.
So they sent me (and the dog) to L&D to be admitted. My biggest fear of getting stuck there with the dog was there. But, since I had eaten breakfast, they got my admit and labs started then let me go home to pack. Good thing too - my husband was panic packing. It was quite hilarious. Like 10 grocery bags of random crap was packed by the time I got home.
We got back for my 4 pm c-section, but due to the full moon, L&D had gone crazy - there were two laboring moms when I left and 10 when I returned 2 hours later. Others kept getting to the pushing point, so we kept being put on hold.
Finally, at about 8:30 we went in to the or. It took a while to get to her, as I had 3 large fibroids on my cervix that had to be removed so they could get to her. Hannah Grace was born at 9:03 pm, 4 pounds 13 ounces and 17.5 inches long.
We got to go home the following Monday, but ended up back in the er on Tuesday due to a uterine infection and an ileus in my bowel (ie they didn't wake up from surgery). So, we are still admitted on her 1 week birthday.
We are still on the postpartum ward, which means DH and Hannah have been allowed to stay with me full time, to continue bonding and feeding. I am able to pump for her, but due to tubes everywhere, actual breast feeding hasn't worked.
Hoping that my bowels wake up soon so we can get out of here. I'm off antibiotics from the infection and now it's just a waiting game to get released again. Hannah is doing amazing and is just perfect, although teeny tiny!
