  • @babylimas‌ I hate electronic toys. They just annoy me as a person, not as a parent. I hate the sounds and the tinny music and the lights and the plastic. Uuuuuuugggghhhh. Fingernails on a chalkboard. We don't have any. I quietly exchange or donate any we get as gifts.

  • I am a huge Kate Gosselin fan! Yes, she is a control freak, yes she can be a bi**h, but she is a great mom! I think with 8 kids you have to be controlling and hard core!! When it comes down to it though, she loves her kids, and at the end of the day that is all that matters! I'm currently watching the TLC special Kate Plus 8: Sextuplets turn 10! I have followed this family from the very beginning, and I can't believe how big these kids are now!

I want to be friends with her, and hang out with her kids!

I also watch all the trash reality TV! The Bachelorette, All The Housewives, Millionaire Matchmaker, True Tori...the list goes on!

ETA: My MIL and I were talking about kids/babies and being over stimulated. She was telling me about some a lady she knew that had to foster her niece because the mom sat the kid in front of the tv so much watching Teletubbies that the kid developed a French accent; they weren't French! Obviously this is an EXTREME case, but the mom eventually had the kid removed by CPS.
I really think there is a healthy balance when it comes to things that stimulate a baby.
@mfarmer0811‌ I'm with you, girl! Not with Kate, but I have no problem with her. God bless her if she can manage all those kids by herself-that's no joke! I love reality tv so much, too! This was my FFFC a couple months ago, about the Kardashians...I love Real Housewives but only of NJ (where I live)! I also loved True Tori, although I cried every episode. I love Millionaire Matchmaker, all things bachelor/bachelorette/ can you believe there is going to be another bachelor pad this summer??? Sooooo excited for that! I'm sure there are other shows I've missed, but this is plenty. ;)

  • LO sleeps on his stomach ... there, my big, bad secret is out!

He got to where he will only sleep 30 minutes (MAX) while on his back, but sleeps 2 and 1/2 hours if on his stomach. Poor baby was miserable for weeks because he wasn't getting enough sleep and we had to make a change. I've done the research and heard all the arguments about sleeping positions. I know what the doctor's say. I also know that my child screamed for weeks on end because he was so tired.

  • I don't think my confession is flame-worthy, not on this board anyways, but who knows?  It's my confession that I'm making more or less for myself but putting it out there as a means to acknowledge my decision.

I'm going to start cutting down on pumping, with the result of probably being done with breast milk by the end of July, when LO is 4 months old.  I have been unable to provide bm exclusively anyways and we had to give formula almost right from the start, but with extreme efforts I have managed to produce about 10 -12 ounces a day for her; roughly 50% of what she has been eating.

I feel *bad* because the reasons for slowing down/quitting are all my own personal needs - need to resume medication that I don't want LO getting, an injured nipple that won't heal (from my first DD), extra exhaustion from MOTN pumping and frustration at feeling like I am missing out on a lot of time and other things to do with both girls because I am chained to the pump for 15-20 minutes, 6 -7 times a day.  I also find that I am somewhat resentful of the pump, because it reminds me that my sweet baby gave up on nursing and refused my boobs in preference for a bottle pretty early, because output was so slow and minimal.

So that is my confession, again perhaps more for my own benefit, and may or may not be flamable...
  • @Torilea Pun intended ;)

  • Judge me all you want. I'm obviously going to have screen addicted, mushy brained children who contribute nothing to society.

That's what twins are for. ;) it's okay if you screw one up...you've got another.

I have a chocolate addiction. I eat some every day. If I don't, I think about it a lot. That's just not as much fun as eating it.

Some people have sex...you have chocolate.

@mfarmer0811‌ no, but my friend (who is as obsessed as I am) called me last Saturday am to say she was at a red light and up pulled Kathy and Rich Wakile in their silver porshe!!! $-)

my fffc? I love the shows on discovery health and tlc about obesity. and all the food they show the people eating looks sooo good and makes me hungry. so then I end up watching while eating tater tots and cookies. and somehow, it's so strangely satisfying.

  • @ShellsBells1980‌ I personally see nothing wrong with letting kids watch a small amount of children's programming. My concern is all of the commercials he will be bombarded with if he watches anything but Netflix or PBS. I don't like the idea of manipulating kids into thinking they need a certain toy or breakfast cereal.

That's fair enough , I totally get that, every channel here has adverts aimed at kids so they pester their parents for....whatever they think they want/need. Our children's channel however doesn't really have them, so it doesn't concern me too much right now. I just think in general the TV shows themselves should be checked out before letting kids see them, the wrong ones can have damaging effects, but it's ultimately upto the parent to keep them from certain things. My cousin let her 5 yr old son play assassins creed on the Xbox, needless to day, he picked up some pretty disturbing ideas of what is acceptable a in real life :-/
    Hell no to the bolded.
It has a mature rating for a reason. If i ever have a son me and my husband will have to have a talk on appropriate age to introduce video games. I know its going to happen, but why can't a five yo play mickey mouse video games or even mario.

Assassins creed is way to violent. COD:BO is too violent.

  • LOVE the Today show in the morning! I always joke that baby girl is watching her boyfriend Matt Lauer in the morning but I MUST switch the channel for Kathie Lee and Hoda...they drive me batty!
  • Along the same lines as violent video games ( kind of but not really) I refuse to let my kids play with toy guns. Nor will I probably ever let them play with toy guns. Seeing my 5yo nephew running around "shooting" people and going "bam bam! I killed you!" really rubs me the wrong way

I guess my FFFC is that DH will most likely teach our kids to shoot real guns once they're old enough. He learned young and has way more respect for gun safety than anyone I know. Here in Texas we are arming teachers to defend students instead of taking away guns. Stricter gun laws aren't going to take guns out of the hands of criminals.

I don't disagree with you though! Part of teaching gun safety will be to teach kids that guns aren't toys. If our child ever pointed a fake gun at someone to 'bam bam kill them' they would be in a lot of trouble. We probably won't allow toy guns for that reason.
So this. Gun safety is no joke.

I don't have kids in school but my cousin's kids attend a school where this is true. Union Grove ISD. I'll go find a link to the article. I thought it was BS when I read it, but I asked her and she said it was real.

I hadn't heard of that one! And being a CHL carrying (former) teacher, I would carry on campus! Some ask, " you would shoot a student?" My response? I would shoot to stop one student from potentially killing multiple students!

Wouldn't tranquilliser guns be better though? That way you bring down the shooter but (hopefully) nobody dies. We heard about this on the UK news, my first thought was what if a student got hold of a teachers gun? It's just an extra way to get hold of them surely?
I don't know much about tranquilizer guns, but if they are like tazers, you only have one shot. And if I was to carry, I would carry on my person. It's not like teachers are leaving guns in their desk drawers.

  • I don't agree with teachers being expected to carry but @ShellsBells1980‌ I don't think the concern is a hand assault to steal someone else's weapon. It's more to have a means to stop a shooter from afar. The shooters in schools are coming in armed so their intent is most likely not to engage another person in a physical fight...it's just to start shooting. I'm not a psychopath so I can't really speak to their thought process but i would think if you wanted to shoot up a school you'd bring the means necessary to do so...not add in a physical confrontation that could derail your intended action.

I didn't think they would, but if someone wanted your gun bad enough they could assault you and steal it. Maybe I just don't get the whole gun thing because it's not as heard of in the UK, it just raises more questions of concern for the teachers that carry.

  • I am never going to believe that more guns is the answer to gun violence.
I don't think any number of children's lives are worth having gun rights. Same day as sandy hook in an Asian country a man walked into a school and started attacking people. Sandy hook: 26 Asian country attack: 0 Not. Worth. It. (And yes- I'm gun trained)

My roommate CC but he isn't allowed to upstairs or load in house unlesss necessary because of LO. If for some reason there was an accidental discharge and I were to lose LO....I can't even think about it

This was my argument as well. Or every teacher has that one student that just irks their nerves. Whats to stop the teacher from just taking care of the problem...
