Toddler Bedtime

DD is almost 19 months. She wakes up around 6:30/7, naps at DC from 1 to 3, and has been going to bed for months at 8pm (Bath at 7:30, etc). Lately, has been SCREAMING when she goes in the crib.  Sometimes I stay and rub her back, but even that doesn't always work, and WTH, do I want to get into that routine?!! I can't tell if she needs to go to bed later or is pulling one on me...what time do your toddlers go to bed?

Our son has continually pushed his bedtime back. It was 8 for a long time. Now, if he naps (which he only does at daycare and, even there, not consistently), he might lay in bed awake until 10. We've pushed him back again to getting in bed around 830-845, but he rarely falls asleep then. He'll be three in 2 months.

Ok, you're all relieving me. Isn't it amazing how AWAKE they seem when they're exhausted?!!!

ETA: Hi @Chickie79...I still have not bought bras yet (We had joked long ago about how I've been saying I need to!!!! Ridic!)
  • I think at that age we started bedtime as early as 7, in bed around 7:30.  When we hit the 2yr sleep regression phase we tried pushing it back to in bed by 8:30 but that only helped briefly.  At 3 he is in bed around 8 (sometimes he will play/talk for close to an hour but at least he is in bed).

    2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
    TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
    Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • DD & DS go to bed at 8, they're 5 and almost 4....mama needs some down time too. Don't give up! I'd wind it back a bit too, but it's just a phase, stay strong.

My almost three year old goes to bed at 7-7:15. She also hasn't napped at daycare for almost a year. But she goes through these phases where she fights the routine, and we just stay consistent. It usually passes in a couple of weeks.

  • Do you think blackout curtains would help? We recently had some serious bedtime struggles until I realized it looked like it was noon in their room at bedtime and at five in the morning these days.

  • All of my kids are in bed by 8ish, except on weekends.  The LOs are usually asleep by 8:30, although DS has been testing that lately.  DD1 has the option to stay up & read or listen to her IPOD, as long as she is in bed & doesn't cause any issues in the mornings getting up.  This is a "most days" ideal situation.

    LOL @ a 5:30-6 bedtime

  • I'm so jealous of you people with early bedtime kids. His new 8:45 bullshit is really cramping our style.

I'm not sure why a 5:30 bedtime is amusing, but ok.
Would just never work for my family.  I am lol'ing at the thought of my kids faces if I told them to get in bed by 5:30-6.  We rarely ever even have our feet in the door & dinner rolling by then.  Kudos to you tho if it works for your house!
  • I've been looking at cute pottery barn blackout curtains for a while...I should DEF do that.
  • @piffle42 I've had to sleep train like three times since she's been born!!!! At six months, then a year, and another time a few months ago.  Ay yay yay!

@scoutnumbers05 already have two blackout panels from PBK in my cart...gotta double check measurements when I get home.  Their rods etc are a complete ripoff so will get those elsewhere.
  • @piffle42 Oh yes, she has a Lambie.  We have three because if one got lost...all HELL would break loose!!!!!! I had to sleep train at 6 mos because she would literally wake up every time I put her down...then I said I'm DONE. Now I kinda miss rocking her to sleep in my arms.
  • I absolutely loved our 530/6 PM bedtime. Reese just started to push it to 7/730
