should I be concerned?????

I am still having some back pain, mostly when I stand up.  It takes several minutes for me to be able to straighten all the way up.  Not nearly as bad as it was on Tuesday and Wednesday, but still there.  In addition, yesterday was 22 weeks for me.  I have yet to really really definitely feel Nemo moving...  I feel what I think is her, but nothing obvious.  Should her movements be obvious at this point?

I called and left a message for my ob to call me back but just wanted to see what you ladies think about it while I'm waiting.  I have no reason to think there is anything wrong per se.  I mean I have had no bleeding.  My appetite is still pretty strong and all the things I'm used to.  I just don't know why she won't kick or something.  I don't want this back pain to be anything more than ligaments or something like that but I have learned my lesson about just assuming everything is normal...

Does just your back hurt or are you also having contractions or pain from within your vagina?

ETA: Also, do you have an anterior placenta?  That could have something to do with why you're not feeling much movement.

  • Don't have much advice as a first timer just wanted to say I hope everything's ok. I've read that FTM may not feel much until as late as 24-25 weeks so I'd try not to worry (easier said than done). I know my LO has really active moments and then some days he's straight chillin. On his chill days I sometimes freak out but I'm reminding myself daily that it'll be a while before movements become strong and consistent.

  • I'll be honest, I wasn't sure I was feeling kicks until just after 22 weeks. By 23 I was feeling them daily and strong. I think it's a little early to worry about that part.

  • no contractions, and no real pain within my vagina.   I am just concerned because I'm a ftm and have no idea what's "normal".  when I was having really bad headaches, I assumed that was normal because migraines seemed to be common among a lot of people in our group, and I ended up having a serious problem and having brain surgery.  So even though I have learned not to compare myself with others, I feel like some of you have much more experience with pregnancy than I.  I value everyone's opinion.  :)

  • I have a fair amount of back pain, and standing is sometimes difficult/painful for me. I'm pretty certain it's just growing pains from my body stretching and such. Hopefully, that's all it is for you, too.

I feel like the skin around my bump hurts like heck in the morning when I first start moving around.  Does that sound bizarre?

  • I was at the doctor on Wednesday and told her that I was having alot of pressure down there and she said that is just normal ligament pain.  She also said that alot of women have alot of pain or pressure around their tailbone at this time, which has kicked in for me today and she said that was normal too.  By the sounds of that, I would think that back pain is just normal.

As far as the movement goes, I started feeling the baby around 20 weeks.  Very light, almost gas pains.  I didn't know it was the baby but as they got stronger I knew that those were the movements I was waiting for.  At one point they stopped begin so frequent and I went to the doctor cause I was agraid and they had a hard time finding the heartbeat and said that the baby's positioning was just tucked away which is why I wasn't feeling it.  I would say that is what is going on with you.  The baby is just in a position that you can't feel it like she is kicking towards your back.  The doctor said that once you feel movement, as long as you feel it once a day no need to panic.  Two days after I was at the doctor the baby much have moved becuase I was feeling it again.

I too am a FTM so I know its hard not to worry.  I have to talk myself off the limb probably once a day and if I didn't do that I would be at the doctors office everyday which would be rediculous.

  • My back pain has kicked in 10 fold this week. I actually had some cramping with it and what not but after I went home and laid down it got better with some tylenol. It helps to wear a belly band every day, at least for me. I know what you mean that being a FTM you have no clue what is supposed to be normal because some of the normal things sound like the things that aren't normal! My brain is constantly going, talking myself down from a full on freak out. I hope you start feeling better!

@stvetter as I was reading your post and as I am typing this, she is doing tiny little kicks.  :)

Great.....now don't freak out if you don't feel anything tomorrow :)
  • Do you sleep with an extra pillow between your legs or wedged under your tummy? With my first, I had really bad back pain because the weight of my baby bump was pulling the muscles forward when I slept. My doctor suggested a body pillow and to put it between my legs and under my tummy. It made a world of difference.

  • I do sleep with a body pillow. Well I go to sleep with it. I wake up on my back every single time. Grrr. Doc said use heating pad and take Tylenol. I use the heating pad before I go to sleep but I dont take tylenol because it ddoesn't work. Thanks everyone for all of the advice :) and nemo girl is butterfly kicking up a storm right now :)

  • My baby has been kicking non stop for weeks and then suddenly stopped on Monday. At the same time, I was hit with excruciating back cramps. I was terrified something was wrong. I went in today for my 3rd anatomy scan (I have a stubborn baby) and the doc assured me everything is fine. It turns out baby has moved and snuggled him/herself up against a nerve which is causing the back cramps amd pain. Because of the position, I may not feel baby moving as much. Hopefully it's the same case for you or this at least eases your mind a bit. Call the doctor and try to relax... I'm sure everything is fine.
  • @cozybluebear‌ I'm so happy that your baby is doing good!

  • Have you gone for a prenatal massage? Or do you see an osteopath? I have found both helpful throughout pregnancy. I always have back pain, though it hasn't been much worse during pregnancy- it's my hips that are bugging me at night, and my first prenatal massage REALLY helped. Going for my second tomorrow!
