This unsettling incident happened on Monday, but I'll bitch about it on WTF Wednesday!
My 5 year old daughter and I were grocery shopping on Monday morning. She was sitting up front in the grocery cart, and we were in the check out line. When we got in line, there wasn't anyone behind us. A minute or so into unloading my groceries onto the conveyer belt, I glance back and realize there is a couple in their mid-late 60s behind us. A minute later I hear the man asking my daughter what her name is. Now, I thought this was odd because of the authoritative tone he was using, the invasion of her personal space, the fact that he hadn't spoken one word to me yet! My daughter looked a little uncomfortable, but quietly told him her name. At this point, I thought the interaction was over. So, I went back to unloading my groceries (making a mental note to discuss the situation and stranger danger when we get in the car).
A few minutes later, I glance back and before I even know what's happening, the woman has pulled out her smart phone and is snapping a picture of my daughter. My mouth dropped open -- I was dumbfounded and tongue tied. I looked the lady straight in the eye but I couldn't formulate a sentence! Before I knew it, she walked away while the man stayed in line behind us (only buying 2 items - 2 bottles of vitamins). I was SO MAD AT MYSELF FOR NOT HANDLING THE SITUATION BETTER ... or at least not being able to block her from taking the picture ... or not thinking quickly enough to snap THEIR picture.
So, not only does this older couple have my daughter's name, but now they have her picture too. I have been trying to convince myself that it was harmless, and they just thought she was cute and have NO IDEA about socially acceptable behavior. But, I have to be honest, I am not going to that grocery store again with her any time soon.
I'm trying to think of it as a learning experience ... and I have formulated something to say should this happen again. I'm just so creeped out by the experience.
Wtf body. I am on bed rest due to torn ligaments/muscles in my abdomen and around my uterus. Not going to lie its really painful and I have been taking morphine for the pain. All I do is sleep and feel terrible nauseous all day. I have so many things I need to be doing right now and cant. I just feel useless
That sounds terrible! I'm so sorry you're dealing with that :-(

WTActualF!!! I'm stunned. Shocked. That is beyond inappropriate and I am so sorry!
WTF Ménière's Disease? I can't take my diuretic because I am pregnant and since we had IF issues, I stopped taking them about 2 years ago. Normally, I know when I am more likely to get vertigo...the ringing gets louder and my ears feel like there is something stuck in them. Lately, I get no warning signs; I just suddenly feel lost in space. Yesterday it happened when I was driving, which is my biggest fear with Ménière's. Luckily, I was on a road that I have been on a million times before, so I could navigate to a safe spot! But seriously, I do not need "drop attacks" right now (that is what we call sudden onset vertigo because had I been standing I would have just dropped and fell).
Blah, I have this too! And yeah, it has been way worse with both my pregnancies, including the drop attacks. One hit me on the freeway last time, and I had to pull onto the median and lay down for like 4 hours in my car. Boo to inner ear issues!
I am sorry you have Ménière's, but it is nice to find someone else who is pregnant and has the same issue. I was kind of hoping this was going to just go into a sort of remission while I was pregnant, but no such luck. Thankfully, I have only fallen one time.
So since you have other kids, did you have any issues post pregnancy? I am hoping to get on my diuretic right away. I am terrified of having a drop attack and falling when I am holding the baby. My OB doesn't know anything about Ménière's and my GP doesn't know much either -she just goes off of what the specialist said 6 years ago(I don't go to the specialist yearly because I have had inner ear issues most of my life, I know the drill).
---quote fail ---
Mine got way worse both during my previous pregnancy and with this one, but in between it settled right back down to previous frequency. I do not have very frequent attacks though, in general. Not pregnant it happens 1-2 times per year. Rare enough that they don't bother to medicate me. Sounds like yours is more intense than that.
Wtf! This was a Tuesday one.. But I'm still pissed about it today! I have been promised a promotion at my current job once we are all settled into a new building purchased.. Meeting yesterday they introduce the new CS manager that is managing both our Portland and Seattle facility.. Thanks boss! Worked my ass off for years for nothing! Finding a new job to go to after maternity leave!
WTF AIR! The air at work is broke. It is currently over 80 degrees in the place I work at. Outside it is 93 and heat index is like over 100. I feel like I'm dying and I am so tired of the comments of "oh, gosh wait until July and August" or "you didn't plan this out very well did you".
Maybe I'm just grouchy because I'm hot and miserable.
girl-- it's hot as holy hell outside right now-- I'd be angry too. Do you have the option to work from home or go home early until it's fixed? Or maybe come in earlier and leave earlier?
It's been too hot today here for you to deal with that. But I'm told next week will be cooler (at least I hope so, I'll be outside with Vacation Bible School all week... FML)...
Totally jetted out early because of it! I told them I would either puke or pass out. Wasn't sure what would come first. I'm hoping they have that crap fixed today. It's cool in here right now, but the past two days it would hit at 3. I understand that, we had VBS last week, I hung out inside all week. My swelling is bad enough already! Lol.

Wwwwwwwaaaaawhat!!!!! I know I'm a little nuts but I'd go to the police or ask to see the store surveillance tape....I don't know but that is scary as shit! Him speaking to her in that tone and then the lady snapping the picture totally makes me think that maybe they thought she was kidnapped or something ....it's just bizarre but yea don't go there anymore.
I thought about asking to see the store's surveillance tape, or at least bringing the couple to the store's attention. I never once was worried that they thought she was kidnapped ... I was more worried that they were thinking about kidnapping her. Crazier things happen unfortunately.
But, seriously, who in this day and age thinks it is appropriate to 1) talk to a child without first knowing or corresponding with the parent first and 2) take their picture??? Just SO wrong.
And, the clueless older lady excuse doesn't apply because she was able to whip out her SMART PHONE and take a picture before I could even say anything! Creepy.
I've been double checking the locks on the windows and doors constantly since then, believe me! I even thought about making our big dog sleep in her bedroom with her.
I think I'm just going to teach her to say "I have a big mean doggie at home" any time a stranger talks to her.
WTF Pharmacy? I told you 3 times that I needed a certain type of test strip for my glucose monitor. I assume (wrongly) that you got it right. So, of course when I have a blood sugar crash and my number hits 54, and I chug some OJ, I want to test again, but realize that I am out of my old strips. I try the new ones.... and Error! Since I'm so messed up, I can't drive to the pharmacy to get it fixed, and I'm on bed rest. So my poor husband has to drive 20 minutes from work to go to the pharmacy and fix it all so I can make sure I got my blood sugar levels back in check. Terrible timing.

What is up the pharmacy's this week? That really sucks and put you in a really dangerous situation! Is there a different pharmacy you could transfer it to, one that might actually pay attention to what you need?
