Silly animal mishaps. GTKY

So I came home last night and found my dog wandering hopelessly in the kitchen with a paper bag over his head. Like the good fur parent I am, I called him over to me and took a picture. Of course I removed the bag but not after I cracked up. I called H and he laughed then asked if he was ok. Of course as soon as the bag was removed he was all happy and proud of himself.
So I want to hear it! What silly mishaps have you found your fur babies in?

My dog has a pin in one of her back legs from a break when she was a puppy, so her flexibility is limited. She will always try to scratch her tummy and just end up standing there scratching the air. DH and I call them her "phantom scratches" and she'll do that until you come over and scratch her poor little belly for her. Cracks me up every time!

When my late furbaby, Morgana, was a kitten she climbed into the fridge. We didn't realize she was still there and were about to walk out the door to go to the Philly Zoo. I looked for her right as we were closing the door and not seeing her ran to the fridge. She was standing balanced on the mayo and the pickles shivering and meowing. Thank god I thought about her before we left!

When our dog was a few months old he ate a caterpillar. (DH found half of it hanging out of his mouth). He got SO sick, foaming at the mouth and vomiting. We took him to the vet where they gave him a liter of fluids subcutaneously. He had a big camel hump where the fluid was. As soon as it was clear he'd be ok I couldn't stop laughing at the camel hump.

This is more disgusting than silly, so you have been warned.......... Our little dog (pictured in my avatar) is already a habitual butt licker so no kisses for him, but this mishap solidified that decision. DS was running around without a diaper before bath time & Decide to poop on the floor. I went to get something to clean up but when I came back, I found the dog sitting there all happy & no poo in sight. So gross!

My older cat, Pippa, has gotten her head stuck in the handles of paper bags. It's happened twice now and each time we try to calmly get her to come to us because she loses her ever loving mind. We end up watching her just run like the wind around the house until the bag finally breaks off and all that's left is the handle. When she finally calms down, she lets us get close enough to take the handle off from around her neck. My poor scaredy cat lol.

Our dogs will generally only eat cat poop, so we keep the litter box in a room with a dog gate. I had taken the gate down one day and forgot to put it back up right away. H got home from work and Archie (our corgi mix) decided to give him kisses. Cat poo flavored kisses. Also, when Archie was a puppy he fell asleep on H and it looked so cute. Until he peed. All over H. While still sleeping.

Aggie (our cavalier) has a shorter snout than most of her breed, it's slightly pugged, which means that she is definitely a loud breather and snorter. At times, she snores so loudly when asleep that she wakes herself up. She will snore really loudly and then her head will pop up and she looks around like 'Who was that?'

My first cat would always get his head stuck in the stair railing. It was pretty funny and it took a few people to get him out.

My mom has a dog that eats poop...everyone's poop. She gives all of her dogs some kind of special treat that's supposed to stop it, but so far, no dice. Pineapples are also supposed to help, but she hasn't tried that yet.

Pineapple theoretically makes poop "taste bad" :-/

they do make muzzles with stool guards for chronic poop eaters. Greys are notorious for eating poop - fortunately ours isn't one of them!

My dog is afraid of thunderstorms and will try to hide. At home she usually just goes under our bed. A few months ago my friend was keeping her, and I guess it thundered while she was outside. So my dog somehow managed to wedge herself under my friend's deck. My friend was looking for her all over and finally found her, but she couldn't get out! After pulling and pushing for over an hour, my friend finally had to take one of the boards off her deck to get my dog out! Luckily it wasn't too hard to fix, but I felt so bad for my friend and for my poor, pitiful dog!

Oh, so many. We have 3, two cats and a dog. All of them were DH's from before we met.

He got the two cats first. Then, when the dog came along, Vada (our haughty tabby) started letting herself go. Not cleaning herself, losing patches of hair, twitching constantly... DH took her to the vet and $250 later, the report was "She's stressed." That's it (tests were negative, no viruses, nothing.). Almost as soon as DH shelled out for the visit, Vada was suddenly fine.

Vada also likes to try to escape. A few summers ago she got out, and we thought she was seriously just gone. No trace of her anywhere. We made signs, talked to neighbors, reported her to shelters, everything. Then a few days later before work, I look out the window onto the deck, and there she is, sitting like the Queen of Sheba, lounging in the sun. We get her back in the house, and she just gave us this look like "What?! I DO WHAT I WANT!" (We promptly stuck her in the sink for a quick bath, and brought her to the vet.)

Bonus: We often take in the in-laws' cat when they go on long trips. Because of the kidney medications she's on, she's a big cat. When she tries to clean herself, she usually loses her balance and winds up rolling on her back like a big black turtle. I feel bad laughing but it's just so damn funny.

ETA: A few weeks ago, DH takes the dog outside to give him a bath. Dog HATES baths. A few minutes later, DH yells for me to come outside. I go out to the deck and he's like "Find the dog." I look across the entire back yard, no dog. Apparently he took one look at the hose, knew what was happening, and wedged himself between the fence and the garbage can to hide.

In our old house we used to keep the cat's food bowl in the half bath and we kept it on top of one of those small kitty towers to keep the dog out of it. Well one morning Dexter must have decided to take a running start and when he jumped on the tower he managed to topple it over and his food bowl went flying into the toilet. This is the sight I came down to that morning as I was leaving for work.

My dog, Finch, is always startled by his farts. Thankfully, they are few and far between and not stinky, so we just laugh. Our cat when I was middle school was an inside/outside cat. Occasionally, we would go in through the back door, which required opening the glass storm door, then the real door. The storm door closed slower than the real door, so when the cat didn't make it in behind us, he would get OFTEN get stuck in between the two. Hilarious.

I'm so jealous of your dog's not stinky farts. Ours is the worst. And she always gets up and leaves! She'll be snuggling on the couch with us and then all of a sudden jump up and leave the room. Before we can finish our WTF thought the smell hits. :-&

This is also my dog. Just last night, he was sitting in front of the couch, and then he gets up and moves to where BIL is sitting at the desk, across the room. Then BOOM, the smell.

-When I was about 4, we were all in my parents room watching a movie (no idea why the VCR was in there when it wasn't usually). Suddenly our dog let out this horrible, horrible toot. It woke her up. She glared at my dad like it was his fault, then left the room.

-The dog we had when I was a teen used to drop balls at the top of the steps then run to the bottom ti catch them. Or put them on the uphill side of the coffee table (the floors in that house were old and uneven) then run to the other end to catch them.

-My DH scared a friend's cat so bad it jumped straight in the air then ran away. Upon further investigation, there was actually a streak of poop up the fall. He scared it so bad, it pooped.

I used to have a cat, Elora (she's 13 now, living at my parents, and is still the sweetest, most affectionate cat in the world). She and her brother were born 9 weeks after another litter - they were preemies. Elora has problems with bowel control (I'm therefore the only one who will hold her, poor dear), didn't learn to clean herself until she was over 6 months old and she still usually smells, and hunts and eats rocks. She's... special.

When Elora was 4 months old, my mom let her out with her playmate. An hour later, I went to check on them. It was raining, so I was going to bring them in. The other kitten was curled next to the door, so I gave her a cuddle and brought her in. No Elora. I looked for a little bit. Called for her. I heard her mewing. Looked and looked and looked. Finally, her mews were coming from by my feet. There's a butterfly net. She got herself trapped in a butterfly net, then managed to flip the net over on herself again. In the rain. She purred through her warm bath, rub down, and warm milk.

It's a miracle she's still alive.

Our cat did the same thing. She was all happy crawling around in the bag until it got stuck on her back legs. Then she would flip out and run crazy ass circles around the house until we caught her and took the bag off.

We had a dog that loved soap. If you took a bath, she'd come over and lick the bar on the ledge of the bathtub. Once I left the bar on the tub. An almost new, big bar of soap. The dog ate the entire thing!

My cat, Rashmi, is addicted to plastic bags. She loves licking them and playing with them for some unknowable reason.

Sometimes she gets so into it that she'll end up with a handle around her neck. At that point, she'll proudly walk around the house like the queen on England showing off her jewels.

Of course we try to keep the bags away from her for fear of choking, but every once in a while she'll randomly stroll through the room with her jewelry on. She always gets sourpus about us taking it off her too

I loved reading these stories. My dogs are pretty good but I have a couple of stories. The best one is probably about my beagle mix. She is a typical smell hound, always sticking her nose in things to see if there is food. I had gone grocery shopping at Trader Joe's and had been setting the paper grocery bags on the floor as I was unpacking them. My DH found her with her front legs and head all of the way in the bag so he tickled her sides and she was so startled that she blew her anal glands all over the kitchen. It was hysterical! Our other dog was born with a delay in developing his cerebellum, the part of your brain that makes your movements smooth and fluid. He has mostly grown out of it now, but he used to shake the entire time that he was awake, before thinking about doing anything. It was sooo cute that sometimes I am sad that he is more normal now.

We have two Italian Greyhounds girls. Though they don't fart often, when the do, they are the kind that turn the air blue.

One winter night a couple years back, my H and I were snuggling in bed with the girls sound asleep in their favorite spot - at the foot of the bed, under heaps of covers. All of a sudden, a truly heinous stink came wafting up to greet us. We made eye contact, but knew that it was neither one of us! About two seconds later Tess comes swimming up from the foot of the bed with huge eyes, gasping for breath. We nearly fell out of bed laughing.

My cats like to beg, not in an obnoxious way but when we open a can of tuna or deli meat they come running. I could drop a piece of food right in front of them and they wouldn't notice. I have to physically bring my hand right next to it for them to see, I'm sure a lot of you guys can relate to that.

One day my furbaby got out of the house and he decided he was going to run FOREVER. When my husband and I finally caught up to him and corned him there was a car on the road and he ran up to the car, who saw him so they were stopped, and peed on their tire like, "This is my road bitch!" haha. Anyway, I was so embarrassed and mad at him, but I laughed so hard later after we caught him.

2 days ago I took our dog, Millhouse, for a walk. While doing his business he stepped in it. Soooooooo gross! All I wanted to do was have dinner because I was starving after the gym & here I am washing a dog foot and disinfecting the tub. Ugh!

Also, he gets jealous of DD when DH is showing her affection or playing with her. When DH walks in the door and hugs her first he starts barking. It's cute.

H and I live in a one bedroom apartment. A couple of weeks after we got our cat, we woke up one morning to find he had disappeared. He had taken to hanging out in the kitchen drawers and cupboards but we checked them all and just could not find him. It got to the point that we had this irrational paranoia that someone had gotten into our apartment the night before to try and rob us or something and had let the cat escape (I don't know). We go to bed that night, and around 1 AM H gets up to use the bathroom. A few minutes later I hear him go, in surprise, "Maze - I found the cat!"

It turned out he HAD climbed into the lowest kitchen drawer, but then he had figured out how to climb behind and UNDER the drawer, and had been there all day! The only reason H figured it out was because the cat couldn't get out on his own and had started meowing. We had to take the whole drawer out to get him out. He did it again the next day while we were at work, so that evening we child-proofed the drawers and cabinets!
