Loss mentioned - vanishing twin

Well, I found out yesterday at my anatomy scan (19 weeks 2 days) that I lost my little baby B around 8 1/2 - 9 weeks. What is strange is that I had an u/s done at 8 1/2 weeks and that baby was measuring ahead but its gestational sac was measuring two weeks behind. My dr never discussed this, I just got the the report via email. I called and spoke to my dr and another dr about it and both were sure that baby B was fine, they said it's common in twin pregnancies...

Fastforward to my 16 week apt, I asked about weight gain because i was only gaining 1/2 lb per week. He said that it was fine and we'd both be happy if I had a 6 1/2 lb baby. I said, uh, do you mean two 6 1/2 lb babies or a total baby weight of 6 1/2 lbs and then he starting back pedaling and confused my husband and I.

Now FF again to yesterday for my U/S. We get to the apt and I hand the tech my script. We hear her on the phone say, "this is a script for a single baby anatomy scan, i need a script for a twin scan". So she measured baby A and he/she was moving all around and is measuring perfectly. She then puts the u/s wand down and says I hate to be the one to tell you this but... Baby B didn't make it.. WTF. Did my dr know something and not tell me? She called the dr and had him waiting on the phone. He wasn't sympathetic at all and just said it happens. I asked what about baby A, will he/she be affected. He said, "probably not" again WTF.. I'm so scared to lose this baby. I have an apt today with my DR and I don't know what's goign to happen but this will be the last I see him.

I am so sorry for your loss. I am also angry for you at the treatment (or lack thereof) that your doctor has given you. I am honestly dumbfounded at your doctors behavior, that is not how a doctor should respond to a patient. I would definitely get another one if i were in your shoes. Again, I am so sorry and heartbroken for you. Sometimes I think some doctors stop seeing babies and only see "embryos and fetuses" and they forget that WE see babies. You and yours are in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss! It definitely sounds like your dr knew there was an issue and didn't address it with you. Give him a piece of your mind and find a new dr!

I am so sorry for your loss. Definitely find a new doctor, that bedside manner and lack of professionalism is not acceptable at all...even if he thought you already knew. Best wishes as you look for better care and for a healthy Baby A! >:D<

I am so sorry. I think I remember you talking about that 16 week appt and I was like, wtf, did he forget you're having twins? I think I said I'd run away from that doctor, and this even furthers my concern - he only wrote a script for a singleton? Obviously he knew something he wasn't sharing with you. I'm so sorry.

Thank you all for your kind words. I just thought I was past the stage of worrying about that and onto the stage about worrying about PTL. It's just hard.

I'm so sorry for your loss. And how cruel of your doctor to add insult to injury by not handling it well (or hardly at all.) I'm so upset for you and I hope you find a new doctor soon who treats you and your baby much better.

Once again, sorry for your loss. Your doctor sounds like a top rate asshat. I'd be looking for a new new one if it's at all possible.

I am so sorry you are experiencing this. What an awful way to find out and have your doctor deal with it this way.

FWIW, with my first pregnancy we had a vanishing twin around 7-8 weeks. Our son was born at 39 weeks in perfect health.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm horrified at how poorly you have been treated and hope you can find a reputable doctor who will care for you and Baby A as you deserve for the rest of your pregnancy. Many thoughts and prayers.
