3rd and 4th degree tear check in?

Can we do this?

How is everyone doing?

AFM - I had a 4th degree tear which has healed *pretty* well. Almost 6 months PP and my gas incontinence has decreased. Still not gone, but it's getting better. I also think I have a fistula (gas through the vagina) but that's getting better too. I am doing kegels like they're going out of style and at my annual health exam next month I want to discuss pelvic floor physiotherapy (ugh).

... the things we do for our children - our poor bodies :)

  • 3rd degree tear here. I was just thinking about a check-in! Things have healed pretty well. One thing I have noticed though is I am only comfortable in the missionary position for sex. Anyone else?? I've found it feels like the scar part of my vagina has no give - so positions like sideways and doggie style don't work. Or at least it doesn't right now. Anyone else have that issue??

  • 3rd degree here. You have reminded me that I need to do more kegels! PP, missionary is actually less comfortable to me. Sorry that's not helpful! Anyway, I seem to be healing well. I have noticed that I no longer feel like things are going to rip open during sex, although we take it suuuuuper easy. I'd like to know if this freaking hemorrhoid is ever going to go away. :((

  • 4th degree here. Gas incontinence is better than the first few weeks pp, but still not as recovered as I'd like. My OB said to give it 6mo, and LO's 6mo is next week, so I may call her and schedule an appt. Also would like to know when this hemorrhoid will GTFO.

I really need to get over my fear of getting frisky with DH, we've only done it ONCE. And it hurt a lot. :(

  • I'm with ya on the hemmerhoids. Super annoying!! Also - has it crossed anyone's mind that a section recovery may have been easier? I'm sure I'll do a vaginal birth again- but after tearing it's tempting. Although that's just a whole new bag of tricks to deal with post partum. Not sure what would be better. Although I'm extremely jealous of section mom's vaginas

@Danicali I absolutely think that a c/s recovery would have been easier in my situation (episiotomy with additional tearing, forceps delivery). The doctor who saw me the day after I delivered said "you've basically had a c-section, just in a more inconvenient place". My OB has said that she would be OK if I wanted to elect for a c/s in the future. Not sure what I'm going to do...FTM and we're planning on having 2 more.

  • Ya I'm worried too because generally babies get bigger as you have more. Or in our family they did. And he was 9lb 2 oz. I'm scared to push something possibly even bigger out.. Although my mom said she tore with all of us and she had vaginal deliveries with all of us. I'm not sure she tore as bad as I did though. My doc said my tear was quite high up into my vaginal wall. Not fun. I'm pretty sure it was about 6 weeks before I could properly sit
  • LO was 9lb 4oz but I think it was his big head that was the problem--his head size has been in 99.7th %ile at every appt. Big heads run in my family (as do big babies). DH and I were both well over 9lb , so I don't think we're destined to have a petite baby any time soon.

At the same time, part of me figures that I've already been cut wide open in once place, why do it again in a second place?

Ya my LO has a massive head too lol. Damn 99% heads. But it's because they have big brains right...? Lol
  • And ya. That's what I was thinking. My vagina is already scarred. So what the hell. At least I should only have to do it 1-2x more in my life..
  • I had a vacuum b/c of LO's big head.. I'm pretty sure I want a c/s next. I'm worried about major prolapse and incontinence issues later on and the more kids you have vaginally the more increased risk you are at developing these problems.

  • 3rd degree tear here. Sex still hurts but we've only done it maybe 4x in 6 months. I didn't even have a big head baby I'm just a smaller build.
