Share your Mommy Fails

Thought we could take a second to laugh at ourselves and share any 'Mom Fails' we've had with our LOs so far. But only in good fun with no judging! This is a hard job and I know that I'm not always the most graceful mommy!

Mine is as I was late night Bumping, I dropped my cell phone on LOs head! Poor thing was pretty shocked, pulled off the boob (ouch) and was not a happy camper :-/. Poor baby. I also freaked out because I was eating a cereal bar another time while I was feeding her and dropped a crumb in her ear!

Finally the first time DH and I took her out of the house was her pedi appt on day 3. We got there and realized we didn't bring anything with us besides the baby. Not a wipe, a diaper, a blanket... Nuthin... THankfully the ped office was kind, had supplies and didn't judge us (to our face at least...)

  • The other day I was taking him out of the car seat. Totally forgot to put the handle down and he's really long. He stretches out whenever I take him out. So I accidentally hit his head off the handle. He cried for a second and then was fine. Which is good.

    I've totally done that!

I have a little changing station set up on the dining room table so I don't have to take DS upstairs every time he needs to be changed...its under a chandelier and one day I picked him up and his head hit the chandelier

also, My husband and I were leaving for dinner, I had DS in the car seat just to sit for a while not stapped in. I told DH to buckle him in...he thought that meant put his seat in the car.  DS rode all the way to dinner no strapped into his seat.

  • I was clipping him into car seat and it wouldn't go , all the while he's screaming and then I realized his poor belly was getting pinched! I felt AWFUL. then the day after I was carrying his seat and bags ( more then I could handle apparently) and one bag slammed into his face good thing nothing hard was in it but still .... 2 incidents in 3 weeks it could be worse
  • @mcnava‌ MH and I did something similar to your car seat situation. However we would strap him in, but forgot to tighten the straps. We have done it twice so far. Baby brain at its finest!
  • We also forgot the diaper bag when we went to our first pediatrician appointment! She was 2 days old and it didn't even cross my mind to bring it until we were there. Luckily we didn't need it!

My other fail moment happened yesterday. We were at a family reunion and I had to BF her in the car. When we were done I picked her up to get out of the backseat I hit her head on the roof of the car. Not hard, but she did cry for for a second. I was just glad no one was around to judge. I felt awful.

  • I had Henry in his cat seat visiting MIL at work. I left and drove about 2 miles before I realized he wasn't strapped in! I had to pull over and do it.

I was snapping DD's pajamas back up after a diaper change and got her skin caught in a snap! She was not happy!

The day DS was born his nails were so long he kept scratching his face so I had to cut them. Of course I got some of his finger. You could see the skin I got but there was no blood. He cried. DH was terrified he was scarred for life and told me I needed to ask the pediatrician about it.

I did this. I drew blood though. Like needed a kleenex worthy amount of blood.

The other day I had just finished feeding DS2 and he was just inconsolably angry. I tried everything I could think of and nothing was working. It finally occurred to me after an hour or so that I hadn't changed his diaper when he woke up like I usually did. Poor kid had been in that diaper for a solid 4 hours and it was drenched! Needless to say I felt pretty dumb.

  • We were out to eat and LO was in the Moby and I dropped a fork full off rice in his mouth. While trying to fish it out he swallowed a piece!

I've also hit LO's head on the roof of the car and forgotten to strap him into his car seat.

When our first was just born I didn't even think about changing her diaper when we were in the hospital!  It was our first night and she was screaming inconsolably.  We tried what we thought was everything...until I realized her outfit was wet.  She had such a full diaper that it started leaking.

I did this exact same thing. We were in the mall and she started crying so I took her out and held her for a little while then just set her back in. Put her in the car a little later and totally forgot. I felt awful! Luckily didn't make it too far before realizing so I understand!

I also forgot the diaper bag on our first pedi appt. my H was like Omgosh what kind of parents are we lol I just told him we'd get better.

The other day I was about to feed her and I went to go lift my shirt and my ring hit her belly. She screamed. I felt so bad! But then I started feeding her and she stopped.

  • Mine is bad because it wasn't an accident. During a MOTN feeding when he was about a week old, he was up every hour to eat and wouldn't go back to bed. Finally after feeding him he fell asleep and I put him in his RNP. 2 minutes later he had a giant poop. I let it go and went to sleep. Poor guy then slept for 3 hours in his poop. He didn't seem to mind but I felt guilty after.

  • Tried to hold boob to baby's mouth for MOTN feeding and he started crying. Realized a couple seconds later that I was spraying milk into his face and throat. Poor guy was drowning in my bodily fluid.

This happens to us more than I would like to admit. My boobs have been nicknamed milk cannons by DH.

I did this the day we brought DD home her nails were like little daggers, I was clipping away while she was breastfeeding on the pillow and the very last finger I totally cut and drew blood, needless to say I felt so bad I make DH cut her nails now.
  • We went out to Pa this weekend to visit my parents. DH noticed that she didn't have a poop in over a day. So we knew when it would finally come it would be a huge mess. Well we drove home last night and stopped at a rest area to change and feed her since she was getting fussy. DH went inside to use the restroom while I fed LO and while she was gone she finally let loose. The noise and smell from her would've made DH proud! So we started getting ready to change her in the truck (cause the bathroom inside skeeved me out). Turns out we left the changing pad and wipes at my parents. No wipes... None. With the biggest poop of her life! Thankfully it was a truck stop we were at so they have everything. But poor DD was out in the truck with me with an explosive dirty diaper and had to wait for her daddy to get wipes. Eeww!! But it finally all worked out. I still don't have my changing pad tho. Gotta go get one now. Ugh.

DH has a habit of using all the wipes from the diaper bag and not telling me, so it doesn't get refilled. then guess who is the one who who discovers they're gone when they're needed? yep, moi...

Dh has also strapped DD into the carseat but didn't buckle the seat into the car (we were in his car where there is no base). Ugh.

Ive definitely bonked heads on the carseat handle.

  • I think it's funny that most of the fails are the same for everyone! Haha!! My mommy fail was dh's win! We were about to go to the first pedi appt and I was not going to bring the diaper bag - it wasn't even packed. Dh was like aren't we going to bring it? I was like oh, yeah I guess but were only going to the doctors office. Good thing he insisted cause we got there and she had a huge blowout!! Figures.

  • The portable baby tub totally collapsed in the tub and although she didnt really smack her head ( padding thank god) it was enough to startle her and make me cry ( like that's hard)
  • I was going to put DS2 down for bed and DS1 saw me and proceeded to follow me back the hall. Not wanting him to wake the baby I managed to get him in his room and closed the door so I could put the baby down. He was not happy but then we snuggled and watched Mickey Mouse and he was ok. I need to figure out a different way to contain him while putting DS2 down...

Dammit! I just discovered a diaper rash in one of the little fat rolls on his thigh. (He's a chunky monkey). It looks very irritated. :(. I've been trying so hard to make sure his crack & sack are clean and dry, but never pried open those rolls further down his leg. I feel so guilty. I'm also mad at myself that I never got around to ordering any cloth diaper friendly ointment , so we'll be back on disposables until I can get some.

And in the middle of discovering the rash, applying ointment and digging around to locate and open the disposable diapers (all while trying to keep one hand on him on the changing table), he peed on both of us twice! When I was redressing him, I scratched his back and then I tripped/stepped on the dog as I was leaving the nursery. What an awful 10 minutes!

I got lazy pumping and was excited that I was up to 9-ish ounces per session when I waited like 6 or so hours between sessions. With so much time in between I believe my production decreased. I got down to zero in the fridge, had a hungry, crying baby, and felt like a giant butthole. We're back on track, supply almost returned to previous volume after thawing some of my stash. Lets hope my supply stays happy with me!
  • While BFing this afternoon, I sneezing out of nowhere. Totally startled DS and he freaked. You would have thought I dropped him or something equally horrible. This was the first blood curdling cry that my LO has had. He has been sleeping in me ever since.

Oh man!! I can't even imagine how this would happen. Now that I said that I'm sure it will happen to my LO lol.

I just had this happen today with my DS! And of course it was right as he pooped all over the changing table too! He didn't care one bit though... He was way more upset about me wiping his face down after.
